Very few of us are true 3S players any ways. US wise...everyone shitted on 3S until 3 or 4 years ago. 3S originally came out at the end of 98/99 in the arcades. The rest of us are simply the new generation "Daigo" 3S players.

I'd laugh if it was Warzard/Red Earth II because I'd want it badly. Scion did say that when humans get corrupt again, he'll make an appearance. That alone opens up room for an expansion that would be along the lines of Shining Force/Phantasy Star-esque.

It can't be HD because we already know about it and I don't think that Capcom would re-announce that title just to get people's hopes up. That(STHD)'s probably the 20th Anniversary title that would be released. This thing is not. UDON's pumping blood on that, btw. Check it out so far: it's quite interesting to read on a blog :)

As for SF 4: a majority of Capcom's team for that franchise, have moved out of the company, so there are doubts that it could be a sequel, good sequel, or anything SF related. Not sure why they'd use fire for a preview site/teaser for a Street Fighter game. Heck, it could even be another CVS game for all we know. Still, this is great news.

Personally, I'm hoping Street Fighter 4 would be the last thing we would see.

I mean, I love SF, and I always will, but I have a feeling that no matter what kind of direction that Capcom could take with a new game (assuming it was good), it would do more to displease people who've been waiting this long for a new game.

For instance, those like me, who loved the Zero(Alpha) series, would probably want something closer to what we loved...and then get utterly disappointed when a new game would more or less continue along the same tangent as 3S. Meanwhile, 3S fanz would probably cry foul if the game changed up even a mere scintilla of the formula that was utilized in 3S. So no matter what happens, people are going to get pissed.

I mean, c'mon, this is the same fanbase that cried foul when Ryu and Ken were not announced to be a part of the original SFIII line-up...and that was during the time frame when you could say the SF fans were on a more or less "united" front...

I'd be open to more or less anything else...even a well done CFJ2

And being a GG fan, it being developed by arc systems fucking rocks...but I'm curious as to why Capcom would be outsourcing ARCSYS, especially since they could always have the team that developed Marvel do it for them, unless all those people are gone.

Maybe they got a hard on for ARCSYS's style. Unfortunately, the developers do pretty bad on first timer titles in terms of balance so if anything I hope Capcom pulls the choke chain on them enough to keep them from going too wild with the broken-ness and whatnot.

Hey, you're looking at a crazy time when Mario and Sonic are going to have a game together, the newest legit Dragon Quest is going to be exclusive for the DS, Solid Snake is going to be in the new Smash Bros. and friggin' BIOWARE is making a RPG based off of Sonic.

I love that Guilty Gear exists, but I sure as hell don't want anything coming out with Capcom's name on it that's dev'd by arc. Arc makes a completely different style of game (devoid of many of the things I play SF for). That, combined with all the doujin games basically being GG-ified over the years, would mean that the true oldschool fighter is dead forever... and at that point, my only hope will be the new KoF game not looking like ass so I still have something to play for the coming generation.

Yeah, I'm getting the impression they're 2 distinctly different things. There seems to be a genuine, New-IP 2d fighting game in the works from the folks that made our younger years so bright. Whether it's gonna' be good or not, who can tell. They're making an effort though (possibly?). So huzzah.

There two different things because they advertise for two completely different products. One is for SB2: HEROES (the newest version of SB coming out for PS2 and Wii this winter), and this other thing advertises for the new fighter, whatever it may be.

Since they're two different entities for right now, it's fine to give 'em two different pages. But if it was INDEED a fighter based on the BASARA franchise, then they would probably link it to the overall franchise as a whole.

I think the best case scenario here is that they're not dipping into ANY of their backlog of games. Start something new...start something fresh. They're not the same company they were years ago when they were releasing 2d titles constantly. They shouldn't try to re-live those days. A new, from-scratch, 2d fighter from an industry juggernaut could be exactly what this genre needs to shake the cobwebs out of it.

MvC3 will not happen.

CFJ2 seems possible, but not something people will take notice off, since the first one was such a snooze. That, and the little placeholder website would be full of SF references if it had ANYTHING to do with the franchise.

Actually I have faith they could make something decent out of CFJ... Sure the first game sucked, but so did other first titles in there series'. If they actually put some time into it and gave it a groove system, instead of restricting the characters to their washed out systems, then they may have something. However I can't see it happening, as it's hardly an origional title...

Also, wouldn't the fact that they said "origional" 2D fighter rule out it being based on Sengoku Basara?

Even though I was in jest when I suggested CFJ2, the truth is that CFJ was better than Alpha 1, SF1, the first Darkstalkers, SF3:NG, Star Gladiator, and DEBATABLY CvS1.

We should all know it takes Capcom til' the 2nd or 3rd stab at a series to really NAIL a game. As such, people should look forward to CFJ2 since if you have faith at all left in Capcom, you should have faith in their ability to do a sequel.

More than likely though, it'll be button-mashing anime trash, or a poor GG clone, or something to do with Sengoku Basara since those are what's selling to the casual Japanese gamer and SF and CFJ are not.

Maybe because none of the new games have looked good to OG players and don't look like they will.

Personally, I haven't seen a game since CFJ come out that wasn't a chain combo fueled overcomplex Guilty Gear clone, besides KOF which is moving that direction anyway. Hyper offensive games just don't appeal to me, and probably don't to a lot of other SRK players.

I thought CFJ was a great idea, just bad execution. The warzard characters had no business being in a serious fighting game, Anakaris looked incredibly broken, and the shit was a complete turtle fest when it first came out. I'd appreciate a CFJII with bigger cast and better testing.

Personally, I haven't seen a game since CFJ come out that wasn't a chain combo fueled overcomplex Guilty Gear clone, besides KOF which is moving that direction anyway. Hyper offensive games just don't appeal to me, and probably don't to a lot of other SRK players.

I thought CFJ was a great idea, just bad execution. The warzard characters had no business being in a serious fighting game, Anakaris looked incredibly broken, and the shit was a complete turtle fest when it first came out. I'd appreciate a CFJII with bigger cast and better testing.

Good points, I totally understand where you're coming from. My main concern with the new games is that there is a lot more concentration on learning and doing big combos. Hit for hit in these games, and trading hits, doesn't offset the need to be a rushdown/combo-crazy player. Ever play a Makoto? She's a great example of what I mean, zone her perfectly for a round, beating her hit for hit... and then with her one pixel you get grabbed one time and lose. (And people call Chun "cheap")

Another thing is the trend of penalties for defensive play becoming steeper and steeper, it ruins a style of play and makes the game system cater to scrubs who think blocking is "cheap". (KOFXI) Guard crush, I was fine with but "skill stocks" and the "Judgement bar" is complete shit.

I'm not denying that combos are a skill, but the bigger they are and the more damage they do limits and turns off a lot of players. It's the same as how many people don't want to/can't play Marvel because the game system requires perfect execution to even be a beginner. There is very little option to be a defensive player as well. (unless you're Justin, who plays excellent offense anyway)

Basically, if this new game is going to be completely rushdown oriented, I haven't got an interest in playing it and neither will a lot of players. That's all I'm trying to convey, sorry for coming off like a dick.

But the thing is, trying to cater to the "old school" demographic is a risk in itself. No matter what direction they could choose (whether it be Alpha, 3S or even SSF2X), SOME BODY will get upset.

And that, is probably the main reason why Capcom or any body else isn't all the enthused with trying to cater to the "OGs". Better to go with a new product that will attract possibly a new fanbase that will loyally support you, as opposed to going with the rather finicky OG sect, who may or may not be pleased at all with what you may try to do for them, and thus end up only losing money in the process.

As far as Capcom and the others are concerned, the OGs have had their era, and they'll always have their "Super Turbo", "Alpha 3", "3S", "KOF98", "MvC2" and simil to keep them warm. That leaves them free to go on to greener pastures, and those who want to go with them can do so, while the others can stay where they are, with the same thing that they want to play.

Yes I play Makoto as my main actually. Do you know what that Makoto v. Chun scenerio you described is called? Appropriate Balancing. Do you know how hard it is to set up a karakusa into SAII without the complication of Chun, who has a normal that can pretty much snuff out anything good you have and they just so happen to be hit confirmable into SAII? And did I mention she has a Kara trow that damn near has twice the range of your command throw if you are using Makoto? I'm sorry but if a Makoto player beats a Chun then either the Chun sucked hard or the Makoto player outsmarted and outmaneuvered the Chun and thus earned his/her victory through the eyes of tournament goers.

On the defensive penalties argument you do realize that there are ways to play defensively without eating a penalty, right? As a matter of fact thats what makes Potemkin so fucking lethal. He can just sit there being passive/aggressive, letting his opponent dance around him until they fuck up, and when they fuck up the eat a nice 50-70% damage combo and thus forcing them to slow the fuck down.

Let me make myself clear, I am in no way tryng to to belittle anyone on any level. It just seems to me that some of the OG players dont give these games the chance that they wholeheartely deserve simply because of the fact that they cannot just jump in and play and apply the techniques that they learned from their games and dont want to get beasted like they did in the early days.

The point I am trying to make is.....Give it a chance, even if you fucking hate it, because there is a strong possibility that you will find something that will nullify the hatred you have.

To be honest, even though I've liked some of the new fighters and some of the things they've introduced, it's quite understandable where players who don't are coming from. In general, yeah, most of what comes out these days has not only chains that tend to be too loose among the entire roster (making for very mash-friendly combos, regardless of the execution required), but one too many sub-systems as well. If anything, it's largely gotten to the point where fights are so frantic that people become desensitized to being able to judge anything that goes on as actually being impressive anymore.

Either way, I'm hoping whatever this new game is winds up being closer to a balance between the more methodical gameplay of older titles and the more offense-oriented titles of today (as long as it doesn't involve either air blocking or air recoveries, with air dashing and air combos possibly relegated to some sort of sub-system that alters the gameplay flow only temporarily). There are enough hyper fighters out right now as it is, so there wouldn't be much of a point of introducing yet another one.

Yes Morrigan has TWO new sprites in Namco x Capcom. And she has a new sprite in Gunbird 2 also. Won't do anything from making people stopping the Morrigan sprite joke, despite the fact that everyone knows about her Puzzle Fighter / Pocket Fighter sprite and there was a bunch of stuff added to her MVC1 sprite making her 1/2 Lilith not to mention Liligan of MVC1. Won't do anything from making people stopping the Morrigan sprite joke, despite the fact that everyone knows about her Puzzle Fighter / Pocket Fighter sprite and there was a bunch of stuff added to her MVC1 sprite making her 1/2 Lilith not to mention Liligan of MVC1. And yet she has another sprite in SVC MOTM on the Neo Geo Pocket so no no conspiracy about SNK not giving her a sprite in SVC Chaos, they already did in a previous game. Ohs well. I'm sure when she gets ANOTHER sprite in a fighting game (if that ever happens) people will find a way to make the sprite joke yet again. Rikuo/Aulbath has one sprite. Sasquatch only has one sprite. Morrigan does not. Eh it's like talking to a brick wall... :rofl:

I think people (myself included) have only propagated the joke based on games that're actually played. With the exception of MvC1 (she still looks horrible), nothing in that list has any kind of community.

If they put work into her MvC1 sprite, that's just extra sad, because it looks awful as always.

I'm sure 99% of the joke comes from CvS2 where she's literally the ugliest thing on the cabinet by far...and some of the sprites are baaad.


All of you holding out hope that it's SF4, you can do whatever you want, but don't hold your breath. They've gone out of their way to say it's original work. To me, the fact that they went through the trouble of using the word "original" is just so people don't even get the idea of SF4 into their heads, because they're not doing it.

This does kinda bug me about the doujin fighters. I'm all for them making female characters that don't suck (truthfully, until Makoto I only liked Cammy out of ALL of Capcom's female fighters), but flipping it around and making it a majority doesn't work either.

How about a somewhat even ratio (maybe slightly favoring male or female) of characters that don't suck?
