Some pics of one here (http://flickr.com/photos/rdr07/sets/72157600590001691/)

Here's the news story (http://www.abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=3337228):

Over the weekend, 7-Eleven Inc. turned a dozen stores into Kwik-E-Marts, the fictional convenience stores of "The Simpsons" fame, in the latest example of marketers making life imitate art.

Those stores and most of the 6,000-plus other 7-Elevens in North America will sell items that until now existed only on television: Buzz Cola, KrustyO's cereal and Squishees, the slushy drink knockoff of Slurpees.

It's all part of a campaign to hype the July 27 opening of "The Simpsons Movie," the big-screen debut for the long-running television cartoon, which loves to lampoon 7-Eleven as a store that sells all kinds of unhealthy snacks and is run by a man with a thick Indian accent.

For 20th Century Fox Film Corp. and Homer's creators at Gracie Films, the stunt is a cheap way to call attention to their movie, since 7-Eleven is bearing all the costs, which executives of the retail chain put at somewhere in the single millions.

At 7-Eleven, they're hoping it shows the ubiquitous chain has a trait seen in few corporations the ability to laugh at themselves.

"We thought if you really want to do something different, the idea of actually changing stores into Kwik-E-Marts was over the top but a natural," said Bobbi Merkel, an executive for of 7-Eleven's advertising agency, FreshWorks, a unit of Omnicom Group Inc. "It shows they get the joke."

The monthlong promotion has been rumored a long time it's hard to keep a secret known by so many suppliers and franchisees but 7-Eleven managed to keep the locations of the stores quiet until early Sunday morning. That's when the exteriors of 11 U.S. stores and one in Canada were flocked in industrial foam and given new signs to replicate the animated look of Kwik-E-Marts.

The U.S. locations where a 7-Eleven store was transformed into a Kwik-E-Mart are New York City; Chicago; Dallas; Denver; Burbank, Calif.; Los Angeles; Henderson, Nev.; Orlando, Fla.; Mountain View, Calif.; Seattle; and Bladensburg, Md.

The idea grew out of conversations between Fox and 7-Eleven's advertising agency.

There's one in my city... gotta find it!

If they put a Ganesh on the counter = complete win.

Go to 7-eleven.com to find the locations. Mine is kinda far, but I still want to make the trip... I have some days off this week, I think I'm going to go!

The 7-11's in my town didn't get the outside of the building redone, but they still got all of the Simpsons merch. Just so you guys know:

Buzz Cola=Not too bad
Krusty-O's=Fruit Loops

I also scooped a second box of Krusty-O's for collection purposes only.

I've been to Hong Kong and let me tell you something; forget about what you heard about the Triads. Forget all that shit you heard about the communist government, or even the leftover wealthy British aristocrats. In Hong Kong, 7-11 runs shit. You can not walk two blocks without passing three or four 7-11 stores. They own more land in Hong Kong than any other corporation or person, I'm sure of it.

I'm not sure what this had to do with the thread but I just thought I'd toss that out there. I think it'd be awesome if, when i got there again in a month, there are Kwik-E-Marts everywhere, with homer's goofy ass smile staring at me

Buzz cola is basically jolt. But the cans are actually sweet as hell. I'm gonna buy another 6-pack just to have and hold forever. Havn't had Krusty-o's and my store didn't really do anything other than put out "squishee cups" without any change to the flavours.

I wanted a generic green squishee :crybaby:

Dude, I went to a 7-11 in Orlando when I went to a tourney this weekend. I was like, WTF, my damn slurpee was labled "Squishee". I was thinking that had to be some kind of infringement.

Everything except the Squishees, foam coolers and other misc merchandise were sold out. It was very disappointing to not see Krusty O's or Buzz Cola anywhere. Not even one forbidden donut.

Buzz Cola tastes like crap, but I will go ahead and buy another six-pack for collector's purposes, same with Krusty O's.

I bought 4 of the apparent 5 collector's cups, what is the 5th cup anway? I have Homer and Bart, Homer with the Pig, Bart, and Lisa. I'm guessing the fifth is a Marge and Maggie?

Only eleven 7-11s in North America got converted to Kwik-e-marts IIRC and those bastards at Coquitlam, B.C. got one.

It looks like everybody got restocked today. Our Kwik E Mart in Seattle (it's the one on Denny right by the Space Needle) was FULL of people this past Saturday at 10PM when my girl and I stopped by. I was sorry not to see a statue of Ganesh, but ... there have been a surprising amount of Indians working the 7-11s lately. I thought the Kwik E Mart retheme was kind of cool but not jaw-dropping.

ALL of the 7-11s out there should have the products if you haven't got them. I thought Buzz Cola tasted more like RC Cola, but maybe that's just me.

It's amazing the run people are making on the merchandise. I've been stopping by six different 7-11s (I'm training for a bike race) and yet I've only seen two Sprinklicious Donuts total, the Buzz Cola and KrustyO's disappear a couple days after they get in, and even the collector's cups have run out at some places. (Again, I think everybody got restocked today, but this weekend most were pretty short on product.)

You can't (shouldn't?) have Duff Beer for a PG-13 movie, evidently. But that was the first question from all of my friends. If they made Duff Beer ... I would have bought ... well, as much as my car could hold. I don't even drink, but for the next twenty years my friends would be living the Duff High Life. Aw well.
