Is anybody here seeing/saw this Star Wars special on the History channel?
It has to be one of the funniest and lamest historical comparison and analytical show I've seen so far.
They grab a bunch of PhD and Master professors to analyze the Star Wars movies!
They talk about
-The scene where the Millenium Falcon is escaping from the giant worm symbolizes the journey of men going to the deepest chasm to find themselves!
-The abominable snow creature and Luke Skywalker symbolizes Hercules and also Jonah getting swallowed by the whale!
-Emperor Palpatine symbolizes THE DEVIL HIMSELF!!!
-Darth Vader's cape symbolizes the AWESOMENESS of the Bad Guy!!
I'm not making this up!

I remember being told in HS by my english teacher, when talking about the hero's journey, that Lucas said he was influenced by Joseph Campbell's books. so this doesn't surprise me.
oh and if you don't know who Joseph Campbell is
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Campbell
EDIT: If you look near middle of the wiki page it actually says that Lucas credited him as an influence in those movies.

yea i saw it, pretty cool actually only problem was they kinda stretched the relations between the movies and other mythology a bit much. some of the connections just didnt make sense

Thats why I thought it was funny because they were overdoing it in the whole historical comparison!
