i don't think i've seen a dance dance revolution thread around here and i don't really know if it's because SRKers have a natural dislike for DDR or otherwise, but if that's not the case let's start one now. Post all accomplishments, stories, experiences here.

Anyone hyped for Suprnova 2?

they are the reason arcades stink . . . Tournaments + a ddr machine on = ggpo odor sense

I would be excited for a sequel, but my level of play in the arcade doesn't match my skill at home. I guess I need to play more in the arcade. I have a Cobalt Flux and play 99 percent of songs on Expert/Challenge, but I just can't get the job done with boss songs and uber difficult 9-footers.

What does the sequel boast that the first Supernova didn't? The first Supernova had like 300 songs.

Also, odor can be a problem with some niggas. When crowds get together (Evo, nerd conventions, arcades) there are ALWAYS stinky fools that get a failing grade of hygiene. I can see if it's hot out and it's a bit sweaty, that's fine, but when fools are just straight up rank for no reason that's when arcades should think about have spray-on deoderant at the front reay to use at any time.

i hardly ever have that problem. Just put on some deo before i leave the house.

For the S2 changes:
- some songs are getting re-rated (the most notable being Sakura Heavy is now a 9-footer instead of a 10, and Challenge vice versa)

- there's a 'Special' option in the options menu after selecting a song. What it does though is unknown at the moment.

- groove radar expanded

that's all i got

Obviously I use deoderant every day.

But some people don't.

I play ITG at the rec center where I go to school. It's on free play :)

But definitely cosign to the arcades stinking. CTF for example. There's a PIU machine right behind the MvC2 cabinet.... Drama + odor + goth retards jumping up and down behind black people with dollars out = OMGZ

I haven't played DDR since 4th/4th Plus. I'm not too good at songs that are above like...6 or 7 feet. Mainly because I tried to make it look like I was dancing when I played. Heck forbid we play stomp on the arrows mindlessly stomp on the arrows mindlessly revolution. SOTAMSOTAMR?

Anything after 4th, I just wasn't interested in it anymore. Still respect the enthusiasm for it, but man, it just got stale after a while. Other Bemani games are cool, though. BEEEEEATMANIA!!!1

Pump It Up is awesome. A lot more "dance-able" than DDR, in my opinion. When PIU EXCEED came out for PS2, I always wanted to get an extra pad so I could play double, but they never released the extra pad separately.

<3 ITG.
I remember being at an Arcade places and seeing DDR and ITG right next to each other, only to run into the question, "Why play DDR when there ITG?"

Adding in the stepmania music is great, and supposly ITG 3 is really good. Not too sure what changed about it, but I somehow hope for a console release of at least part 2.

yeah ddr got boring for me after I played it for 1 year...PIU is top tier

Mixah: Just keep practicing, it will definately get more satisfying and natural to play later on....then you move on to the hard shit like 20+nightmare remixes.....

but I still play a game of ddr every so often...and might increase when sn2 comes out

moreddr+cute guy who likes ddr=win...or at least getting sum

I thought DDR was over, 4 years ago on the EC and like... 6 yrs ago in Cali.

I'm hella surprised that there's a thread. Umm, I used to get SDGs and stuff, but didn't take it real serious after 2003.

SuperNova 2 = Meh

Pump it Up Pro FTW!!!!!

But if I had to play only one type of music game then I would pick IIDX over any of them.

That's me, in a nutshell. I was good enough to SDG about half of extreme and get 1 great on Rain of Sorrow FOURTEEN TIMES, but time got me and I don't play often or hard enough to have any chance to catch up. Hell, a dude I know AAA'd the Extreme machine. that's just silly.

I used to play a lot, but this game acted as a gateway to the other bemani games (sorry but pop'n is above everything) in which I started to move onto and ditched this game. I still haven't forgotten how to play though. Maybe bust out some Rhythm and Police heavy (they still call it heavy/maniac right? lol) :O

<3 IIDX

Like others have said, DDR was a gateway game. I rarely play it anymore; mostly just at gamer get togethers/lan parties will I play

IIDX is pretty awesome too, but, it has too many iffy songs. Some I personally think are really fun to play (Night Flight to Tokyo, Fly Away To Inida, Oosanbashi) but there are also some pretty lame songs. I remember that when I used to hit up Mesa Golf Land, I would go on there 8 buck for unlimited play think and just try new songs. Some I'm glad I tried, and others, not so glad. And then there's Silvia Drive . . .

I prefer pop'n more because (almost all the time) their songlists cannot be beat. There is always like 20 songs that you get hooked on automatically and they stay with you.

Oh wait thhis is a DDR thread.

I think this should be just a general bemani thread more than just focusing on DDR..

Honestly I started going to CTF to play DDR and from there realized people still played fighting games :looney:

I've been playing DDR for almost 6 years (come late November, it'll be 6), and I am nowhere near great.. mainly because I have a pack a day smoking habit and i'm asthmatic (no pump, lawl, but it never kicks in unless i play way too much DDR)..

I have seen the fascinations AAA'd at CTF once, it was really bizarre to witness because holy shit the fascinations are crazy - but really good songs, imo.

I've AA'd a bunch of songs, the hardest one being Dance Dance Revolution, not oni course (the one that streams the old school catas, I could probably AA it if it wasn't for the Afronova part, I have never gotten that down).. my other AAs include Tsugaru and shit, i'm terrible at gallops now though so I dont stand a chance on AAing it again.

And before anyone asks on tips and tricks for playing, here's what I did and it helped me AA stuff and get timings down and stop getting Bs on songs due to massive Greats:

PLAY STEPMANIA. I can't stress this enough. Find simpacks of the arcade mixes, and play the shit out of them, stepmania has a handclap/metronome feature that comes in handy so you can work the rhythms. Transition to arcade eventually.. what I did was I laced a bell onto each of my shoe by the heel, just a small one so it wouldn't be too noisy and it would mimic the handclap/metronome. :looney:

I remember when I started out on Konamix that handclap saved me. It helped me understand the opening for Dynamite Rave.

Stepmania is the shit. I've got .7 gbs of songs for it. It's not as pretty, but hey, it does what it's supposed to. If I had to choose between a console DDR and SM I'd choose SM.

Which is sad because I don't own a USB pads, I just play on my keyboard. Anyone know where I can get cheat foam USB pads?

Hmmm...I'm not sure what my best accomplishment on this game was. 20 greats on Burning Heat? Ehehe...it's been a long while. 'Twas good exercise, too. Oh yeah I barely got an AA on Max 300...my only AAA was like, Freckles haha...memories. Freakin Rhythm & Police...I was always 2 greats away, and in different places all the time. I just realized I listed all the "aZn" songs but I'm really not like that ehehe
