View Full Version : Tiering the Pixar Films

It's that time again. With Ratatouille opening up over the weekends, it's time to rank your favorite Pixar films from best to worst.

Here's mine:

1) Toy Story - Still my fave and probably always will be. Can't beat Woody and Buzz. Everybody's has played with toys in their childhood making it universally appealing.
2) Toy Story 2 - Not as good as 1, but still up there.
3) Ratatouille - I wasn't expecting much out of this film, since the premise didn't really seem very appealing, but boy was I wrong. Saw this over the weekend and it was awesome. It was tough tiering this and incredibles.
4) Incredibles - I love comic books and superheroes so naturally I enjoyed this one. Ratatouille barely beat this one.
5) Finding nemo - Probably the the best Pixar film graphically. I'm not a big fan of the fishes, but it was still enjoyable.
6) Monsters inc - All of Pixar's films are aimed towards kids, but this one felt a little too kiddish for me.
7) A Bug's life - Big shoes to fill since it was the next movie after Toy Story. But still decent nonetheless.
8) Cars - The only movie from Pixar that I'd say was bad. I almost fell asleep during this film.

I Just saw Ratatouille and i really enjoyed it too.

But by far the best i think is The incredibles.

Here's my list:

1) The Incredibles
2) Toy Story 2
3) Toy Story
4) Ratatouille
5) -7) Bug's Life, Monsters Inc, Finding Nemo - All of them were equally the same...i don't really remember them either.
100) Cars - you're right on point, i really didn't like this movie. The only pixar movie i really didn't want to watch when it came out.

Toy Story is still one of my favorite films many years later. This movie had the right mix of stuff to be appealing to both kids and adults. Toy Story by far is their best movie.

The Incredibles gets my vote for second place.

It's a toss between The Incredibles, Finding Nemo, and Toy Story 1&2. Right behind is Ratatouille. After that it's Monster's Inc, and A Bug's Life. I havent' seen Cars and heard its bad. That's like one miss for 7 great hits.

Pixar has the best track record ever!

Doesn't Toy Story have to be #1 by default? Tom Hanks and Tim Allen with a Don Rickles and Jim Varney assist has to win. Plus it got it all started.

I can't vote. Its a three way tie between Toy Story/Incredibles/Finding Nemo. Those are the God tier of animatied movies. Hell, The Incredibles is the best super hero movies in years.

After that is Toy Story 2, then A Bug's Life, then Cars, then Monster's Inc. Ain't seen the new Pixar one, although I'm sure its fucking awesome like EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THIER FILMS SO FAR.

I've only seen Toy Story.

Most people are gonna vote that just cause it's old enough for most of us to have seen as kids. Just guessing though I didn't vote.

I was torn between Toy Story and Incredibles. Incredibles is fucking awesome but Toy Story's plot, casting, everything along with nostalgia gives it that push to the top.

How does Cars get dumped on?! Paul Newman? Richard Petty? Mario Andretti? Dale Earnhardt Jr? I mean c'mon

For me Cars and Toy Story. I havent seen really any of the others. Only bits and pieces. I saw the first 20 min of Finding Emo, BAH! I wanna see all of Monsters Inc. just for Billy Crystal

I fuckin hate Incredibles!

Seriously. I'm not even into NASCAR and all that, but they've got a lot of star power in this film, and a lot of detail went into the likenesses of most of the cars. I voted for it. I'm probably going to get questioned on my manhood or something of the sort, but I don't care. I liked it.

I thought cars was pretty looking but made no sense when you think about it. cars...that talk... and they play videogames. I dont remember seeing any humans, so do the cars build themselves? do they fuck? who built the buildings? you cant build shit when you have tires for limbs. anybody have theories on this?

I cried when Disney bought Pixar. But then the possibility of an Incredibles 2 makes me optimistic.

Don't worry about Pixar being hurt. Pixar's head, John Lasseter now basically has creative control over both Pixar AND Disney's animation studios. Plus, he only reports to Bob Iger, the President/CEO of Disney. Disney basically IS Pixar now.

However, Pixar has always been against sequels. They've said this before. The only reason that Toy Story 2 (and currently 3) was created, is that Disney was making it. Pixar didn't want that. So they made it on their own. They were basically forced into it.

How would you guys tier the Pixar shorts? "Lifted", the one before Ratatouille has to be up there, but "Geri's Game" has to be their best one.

Fucking truth. Incredibles is too damn good. I still gotta see Ratatouille, but given the general consensus, that makes Brad Bird 3 for 3 in making awesome damn movies.

If you don't like the Incredibles, you don't like heroes. And if you don't like heroes, you shouldn't be watching cartoons in the first place.

i'm shocked that everyone hated cars. i enjoyed it. besides, it's the only Pixar movie that got away with the word "hell." and i've only seen the last 20 min. of monsters, so i can't have an honest opinion, but i would at least rank it over A Bug's Life. that movie always seemed too emo for me, i can't go back and watch it anymore.

anyway,
Incredibles > Ratatouille >Cars > Toy Story > Finding Nemo > everything else

that new film that's coming out, Wall-e, looks like a snorefest for some reason. i don't know why.

Well, I can't speak for everyone else. But, I don't hate Cars, per se. It's good, but it's definitely weak compared to the rest of the Pixar stuff. I don't think any of the Pixar movies are horrible, but there are some weaker than others.

GOD TIER
- Incredibles

TOP TIER
- Toy Story 2
- Toy Story
- Finding Nemo

UPPER TIER
- Monster's Inc

MIDDLE TIER
- Bug's Life
- Cars

Haven't watched Ratatouille.

EDIT: About Cars, the only part I really liked was the cameo with Michael Schumacker (spelling?) at the end. I mean, the movie wasn't bad or anything, but it didn't engage me, and I didn't particularly like the art style.

Ratatouille is amazing. Puts Monster's Inc and Cars to shame. I highly recommend it to anyone.

Top Tier
Ratatouille/Incredibles/Toy Story

Mid
Finding Nemo/Toy Story 2

Low
Monster's Inc/Cars/Bug's Life

Cars wasn't bad, but in comparison with everything else its just alright. I didn't like Monster's Inc only because i'm not too fond of Billy Crystal in any shape or form.

Why does everybody give so much hate on Cars!

I love that movie, I mean I thought it was going to be about a car who wants to be the best by training from childhood to be a good racer, but the movie starts off with the main character already in the finals and goes into something else!

I was laughing so hard when Lightning McQueen said about the Hudson Hornet winning 3 Piston Cups and Mater spits out oil and says "HE DID WHAT IN HIS CUP?!!!"

It was a great movie, especially the story about people driving on the road not to cut time, but to enjoy the ride

I love it that Pixar always surprises viewers with something much different than the obvious!

I really want to see the new one :bgrin:

Is Ratatoullie or whatever better than Cars? Because cars was disappointing.

I voted for Incredibles. The movie was just god tier.

I've never seen Finding Nemo - is it really worth watching?

Also, A Bugs Life wasn't that bad. It had probably the funniest ending bloopers of any of the Pixar movies I've seen.
