The only cartoon I really just loved from 2000's is Justice League and maybe Samurai Jack. That's not including anime.

Most of the old shit only seemed good then and in reality sucks balls compared to what you watch today. And the same will be true of what comes out in 20 years. You build on the pasts mistakes and triumphs for future work.

Just take a look at Animaniacs, Tiny Toons, Pinky and the Brain, and Freakazoid. All had clever writing along with a shitload of other cartoons. None of those "suck balls" compared to the stuff on today's schedule. Most of the cartoons of today are crap. No real writing talent is involved with any of these shows.

Batman The Animated Series, Justice League, Justice League Unlimited, Batman Beyond and Superman The Animated series > everything else.

You guys are also forgetting TMNT 2003. That show is too good. It's up there with Samurai Jack and JL/JLU as one of the best cartoons of the new millenium.

Cartoons have gone downhill from the Loony Tune days because essentially, that artform died. The animation of today isn't even the same idea. Cartoon Network shows are, for the most part, abominations of the human capacity for intelligence.

I love this retarded comparison method. The past had A, B, and C good shows. the present has X, Y, and Z bad shows. therefore, fuck all other shows, the arbitrary bullshit lists I just made make it obvious which decade was better!

So, I'll have to vote for the old school ones.

alright, imma take a good crack at this...

the be all end all:

movies 2000s > 90s > 80s

2000s
2000 movies can't get much prettier than this. sure, they're all rehashes of already established ideas (novels, comic books, older movies, old sitcoms, cartoons, toylines), despite that notion, i find it a lot easier and more enjoyable to watch a movie that was made today, than i ever had. we just have the technology, and we're going back and correcting what we weren't able to do years ago. simple as that. on top of that, digital capturing and home releases within ~ 3 months ftmfw!

1990s
seriously, going back and trying to watch movies even from the 90s is just too painful too watch. i can't stand watching how our style was right at 1995 where we had the whole post-grunge/gangsta rap thing going on.. man.

the 90s also began an era where we started using more CG special effects (i am aware it was first used in the late 70s), and while ground breaking as they were, it still wasn't as perfected as it is today.

1980s
80s movies, with the exception of classics like back to the future, are only good to make fun at. 80s movies were just bad in general, big hair and everything, and are only good for nostalgia's sake, much like american animation... but i'll get to that soon.

might i add that women in the 80s sucked. all the "hot" models and actresses all rocked that nasty BIG hair look... not like the hot curly, frizzy big hair you see today, but nasty back alley hooker hair. much like how i can't find any woman from the 1930s-60s "hot" or at the least bit attractive. but for some reason, women from the 70s are fine as hell in comparison. :xeye:

as far as i'm concerned about women: 2000s > 90s > 70s > anytime else > 80s

tv shows 90s > 2000s > 80s

2000s
today, reality shows® single handedly ruined "good" (see: quality) television. 'nuff said.

1990s
while most tv shows in the 90s were sitcoms rather than reality shows, you can tell that the writers actually tried hard to make that "witty" 90s sense of humor. too many good 90s sitcoms too name.

the 90s was also the golden age (some argue it could've been the silver age) of SNL. i'm talking 1993-ish, where you had the likes of adam sandler and... well, shit. i won't list them all, but you know exactly who i'm talking about! even fucking david spade was considerably funny in that era. on top of that we also had early MADTV (i'm talking phil lamar and orlando jones tag team quality, none of that aries spears unfunniness. good thing will saso took over most of the load.

1980s
tv shows from the 80s were cool, i guess. you had decent stuff like mr. belvedere, perfect strangers, and a little cosby action, but that's about it. i suppose the only thing 80s television is good for is that they make good family guy fodder.

animation 90s > 80s > 2000s

2000s
are they even called cartoons nowadays? the only good cartoons today are the ones catered for older audiences.

1990s
easy. the 90s had well established (none of that boring tracy ullman/christmas special b.s.) simpsons, beavis & butt-head, nick toons (doug, ren & stimpy, rocko and the rugrats), fox kids (x-men, tick, eek!, bobby's world, animaniacs), freakazoid, 2 stupid dogs, the list goes to infinity...

1980s
i'll give the 80s credit. it pulled us out of the "animation hell" that lasted from the 60s and 70s, but that's about it.

80s cartoons for the most part, are chock full of trashy 30 minute toy ads, and really didn't think much of an element people refer to as "story." and i'm aware that i'm in the minority, but i could give two flying shits about the transformers. TMNT? hell, yeah. G.I. Joe? why not? He-man? no homo. Transformers? yawn.

japanese animation 2000s > 80s > 90s

2000s
seems like the 2000s where you can tell the artists are trying to deviate from the "typical" anime and manga style. on top of that, things are done 100% digitally which only let the animators mess around and get gorgeous results, but more time to throw in the extra frames that anime oh, so desperately needed. on top of that with more foreign funding we're getting high budget anime that is literally more fluid and better designed than anything american tv ever wished to produce.

1990s
the only good things to come out from the 90s was yu yu hakusho, escaflowne (at least at the time), slam dunk and rurouni kenshin on a good episode, fushigi yugi and sailor moon. again, no homo. oh, and cowboy bebop. evangelion is about as overrated as naruto is. deal with it. every anime from this era (including the above mentioned) all fucking look exactly the same. sure, things looked prettier than what we got in the 80s, but all it did was magnify how low budget the animation some of these shows had. on top of that, there was just too many of it.

1980s
80s anime had the hype like none other. and with the shear grittiness and energy anime had then, i can't really blame it. but not only did you have the hyper-activeness that was late dragon ball/z and the likes, and quality drama that was macross and ashita no joe 2, you also had a nice variety of "slice of life" shows much like touch and kimagure orange road. now, if only the animation was a little bit better...

commercials 90s > 80s > 2000s

let's just say this, 80s commercials were too corny, 2000s commercials are too damn annoying, the 90s was a good median between the two.

music...

that subject is a lot harder to disect, so i'll let you decide on that one. same goes for comics and videogames.

did i leave anything out?

Fuck man, Beast Wars (Not that machines crap), All the old TAS'. I don't know what Batman Beyond is considered, but I liked it. There were too many good, quality cartoons that were made to be forgotten, but too many to list.

AlphaDragoon

Venture Bros. is the shit, and Harvey Birdman was cool but other than that I don't really know. And AS has since fallen off with retarded shit like Tom Goes to the Mayor, that fucking Tim and Eric show, ghey ass Saul of the Mole Men and so forth. AS was REALLY awesome back when they had a shitload of anime.

As for the guy above me's dissection, I totally agree with the bit about anime. Due to newer technology that lets them do it all digitally we get to see some wicked cool stuff and some uniquely styled shows that wouldn't be possible back in the day. The gradiented coloring on the hair of the characters in Manabi Straight, for example.

EDIT: Batman Beyond was god tier. Fuck Teen Titans, they took funding from a great show to put it into that piece of *Dudley quote* "gutter trash".

Best cartoon movie ever from a tv series - Transformers: The Movie. Megatron was just absolutely ruthless!

Yu-Gi-Oh was good with that great shadow game as well.

The Simpsons Movie will probably be an all-time classic, as long as they have all-new material.
