Yeah you really have to take use of what you have to win and be successful at this game.

At the same time, I think it's fun to experiment with the other arcanas.

It gives people more to think about other than the conventional Lightning/insert character.

I don't play Lightning because it doesn't fit my playstyle, but Gier does, so I play it instead of Lightning.

Basically, it's all about how you want to control a match. Pick your character, and figure out how you want to play her, and pick your Arcana.

Like here in my town, we all use a variety of arcanas just to get ready for others in tournies. Let's see we have a Lightning Fiona, an Earth Kira, a Wind/Steel/Time Lillica, a Love/Gier/Poison Saki, a Fire/Poison Maori, among others.

So don't be afraid to experiment. I mean I've seen matches on youtube where a basically turtling Earth Heart beat a Lightning Saki user by just good defense and simple yet damaging combos. So yeah, that's all I have to say.

By the way, if you haven't used Poison Maori, you Maori users out there, think about it, she can kill a person off of one hit with that arcana. Trust me, it has happened to me more than once. :sad::sad:

Ok so what kind of BS does Mei-Fang have, b/c as of right now it seems that:

Her 6B isn't that great of an anti-air
2C gets GCed and punished for free
Her pokes are trash vs Kohona (the little fast ninja girl)
j.C is the only consistant crossup move, and it's too telegraphed to be used reliably

Someone please help? Pretty please? Kinda hard to get into a game w/ top tiers running all over you. Maybe I should just go back to my scrubtastic Gier Saki. :sad:
What Ken said and the fact that she has such a high damage output from just about any hit she does. Her BS doesn't lie in super high priority moves or stuff like that, it lies in the fact that she deals so much damage and is solid all around on top of that.

As for the things you're complaining about, you're playing her wrong if those are what's getting you killed. Ken already went into detail about it, so i'm not gonna bother too much. Pretty much, you have to know that Mei Fang is slower than a lot of characters, so you cant give your opponent a lot of opportunities to take advantage of that or you lose. You have to be weary and you can't just throw stuff out and hope it hits (thats part of the "you have to play well" too part of what i was saying).

And as CooCoo's said, play the arcana you want to. Im not saying play the top character/top arcana everytime. But im saying with whatever tools you have at your disposal, don't hold back and use what works. If you like lightning, then play lightning. If you like steel, then play steel.

well, my Kira (bubble grappler) is rusty, but basically you want to go for (2)A>2B>623A(or B or C), which is her untechable wall throw, and if the wall is far, just jump and home in. From there, well, usually j. 2C (her splash), land B, then something from there. usually with earth, after the splash i do A>B> 41236D.

Tiers always matter. They're important in AH, but really this game hasn't been given much of a chance to really grow and develop thanks to the fucking MORONS behind it who decided to:

1) Release a patch (or microchip rather) that cost $700.

2) Announce news of a sequel before the damn console port is out.

3) Having the port suck ass.

This game needs another year and a half to really be looked into and explored with, but we're not going to get that thanks to AH2 being on the way. At this rate lord knows if AH1 will last even a year in the states before a few choice locations bring AH2 in (CF, PZ, TGA, etc).

So in a way, that's why tiers don't matter, because god knows if the community (Japan really) will be given the time to really beat the shit out of this game to establish them in stone.

I mean as of now it's Lise and Kira on top, and then eeeeeveryone else in mid, and Fiona and Yoriko on the bottom, but that shit can change.

Water/Niptra grab super is only 360.
236 D is basically placing one of the water bubbles in the air. Once you have them up, do 623 to do some kind of lame waterfall. Couple of hits maybe? I don't recommend it though. You're better off keeping the bubbles.

Some of the Arcana combinations with her are stupid crazy. Earth gives her invincibility and this is important for her charged Cs. It also helps her zone in easily. With lightning, she can clash and command grab all day. Also, she can connect to Arcana summons very easily. ex with Earth/Ohtsuchi: (in corner) 2b, 623c, ABC, 236ABC, j2c. That's unfair.

i think maori is kind of bullshit sometimes... especially with demon (evil/poison). if a good player starts a juggle, the opponent is pretty much boned up the ass if he's out of arcana force.

also, i personally think it's kind of hard to establish solid tiers for arcana heart other than lieselotte and kira since some match ups can change drastically depending which arcana the players choose (although certain arcana are considered far superior for some characters anyway).

i'm still a nub, but that's my 2 cents.

The top tiers can be beaten, that's why there isn't a tier list. Like, vanilla AH was the Kamui/Kira/Konoha show. No doubt about it there. The rest of the roster had to really work. AHF is a lot more tweaked compared to AH and gives characters a much better chance of winning.

Truth.

Aside from Liese and Maori, poison pretty much doesn't work. It works for them because they have loops that last a long time and they can combo into the poison cloud for ridiculous damage. The poison cloud doesnt do that for any other character, and if it DOES, then there's def better arcana's that can be used for that particular character.

The Teleports are useful to confuse the opponent with blocking direction while having stuff thrown at them already, only characters capable of that are Maori and Liese. The teleport switch thing is awesome against gier/time etc, but doesnt get used enough on its own to warrant picking poison for that.

And steel is bad imo because it takes too long for one thing. Bar goes up HELLA fast, and with steel, it goes up hella SLOW. Having to charge your bar means sacrificing precious wakeup opportunities for running back and charging. The swords and shield and stuff are cool, but like, not good enough on their own to make it worth the charge up bar thing. Also, having to use a bar for the "level up" for the round for the swords/shield is using a bar that you dont have much of ANYWAYS, and then you get to use THAT powerup and MORE bars you prolly dont have to do the 360 sword super, which is the beef of the arcana. Essentially, it takes too much bar to use effectively, and conveniently, its the hardest arcana to get bar with. Two bad combinations. Its not completely worthless, i used it against a turtling water Kamui with Lilica a long time ago, beating a good player in a tournament first round from it. Instead of him turtling and me rushing, i just charged meter. Any meter i got went to the 360 super, so he was forced to not turtle (and if i hit the 360 super, it didnt matter if he had water bubbles out cause one of the swords would pop it anyways). The Arcana Activation bonus's of hella offense and defense are nice, but again, you need your bar. =P

Unless i do the fireball or lightning thing after you teleport, i dont see how you can really punish it since you can fall safely and block. And as for teleporting out of lightning super, you can do the 2x lightning super trick to stop that problem (doing one and letting it go immediatly, then doing the other and holding it until you want to let go). But i guess if it works for you, thats cool.

And Yes, you can combo into the command hole drop, but an HC6 combo does way more damage...

And Kira is super good. Half her moves are air unblockable. And they do a ton of damage on hit because you can combo into so much from one hit. And most of her moves clash, so even if she's "slow" she can still grab and win the clash. Once the opponent starts backdashing out of clash, you can just 5B or 6C them. Off of ANY TECH she gets a free unbreakable command grab. Toss in super armor with her rediculously long range charge moves and its really really hard to deal with.

At the start of the round, dont even approach her or your asking to be command grabbed :D from my experience, she only needs meter for command grab supers, so yeah, usually ill have a lot of bar when it comes to the third round.

The ones i know:
Poison - Adds poison to the opp if they get hit
Fire - Adds a fire shield that hits the opponent if you use D in the air
Love - You can use 236236D as many times as you want without it wasting meter.
Lightning - You get clashing added to your D in the air dashes
Plant - Life regen
Earth - Super armor, but can't block
Wind - 4 jumps and 3 air dashes
Water - Stops chip damage
Time - Stops the round clock
Steel - Increases your offense and your defense by a LOT.

And no idea about Gier, if anything (thanks XAQshinor for the help)

Not sure if its been posted, but when you activate ABC, your Gier blobby fish is sorta beefed. If you do 236+D it does about 40% more damage and I think stuns a little longer, like the difference between doing a homing cancel and not doing a homing cancel in the same combo perhaps. 623+D does extra hits, 5 hits, and might get a little taller. 236+D is something to play with, but I dont play Gier so I leave that to someone else. Sorry if this is repost.

Considering I have been playing this WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY longer than you, I can make those quick calls. And at the end of the day, Kira wins due to shitty hitbox, unblockables, and gimmicks. And I stress that last part because we have our own Kira player here(Anakron) who can run those gimmicks and hit you off with a 720 SPD before you even know it. You don't go for combos or ANYTHING. You jump a lot and pick your spots. You get fancy, you die.

Finally got my hands on the PS2 port of AH. I'm definitely a much better player on pad as opposed to stick. As in, i can actually do shit now. I guess all those ass whuppins at Chinatown Fair actually pushed me understand the game.

after following up on this, i did some testing, here's the post i made in the Chicago thread:
I think its intended by design. Im guessing certain arcana's allow for faster recovery (because they might be weaker). Time is so friggin good that it has the bars recover slower i guess, i unno.

After some testing:
Everything but the three listed below: 2.45 seconds
Earth: 2.85 seconds
Water: 3.2 seconds
Time: 4.75 seconds

And it takes 2.25 seconds for each X on the homing guages to disappear. So if you use a homing cancel with say, Love, it takes 2.25 seconds for the X to go away, and then 2.45 seconds for the bar itself to fill up.

So using one regular gauge of homing with Time (doing a 6D for example) takes as long to recover as using a homing or a guard cancel with the normal recovery arcana's.

Already added it to the wiki btw.

It does, almost all the characters regular BnB's can't be done thanks to 6D traveling completely across the screen, so you have to come up with something creative to work with when you don't have the meter, or space yourself right to 6D into a combo when in the corner.

2c, 6d, 2a(or a), 6cxx236d~236c, 236c and then loop... or whatever. Or you can do it without the homing cancel if you do a standing c into the 6c

actually apparently you can do that combo without the sword? seems to work from around midscreen no problem... I'm still missing the loop so I'm not 100% sure the loop works.

Oh and what is the actual command for the sword super? I got the defense and attack charge up and the level charge up but I still don't know the sword super

I just got done watching the SBO05 DVD yesterday! There were some pretty good matches, and others were....ummm......Yeah.

Sabin represented the U.S. very well in his match. Too bad that he got matched up against the player who won the whole tournament:lol: Sabin actually came the closest to beating him...even more so than the player in the final match. Kudos Arturo!!!

Season's Beatings II is coming up Saturday here in Columbus, and I'm still trying to figure out who I want to use. I currently play as Kamui, Saki, Konoha, and Lieselotte. My most solid character is probably Saki...but that's anyone's most solid character if they use her. The only one I actually practice with is Kamui, but I constantly drop combos in matches. Konoha is fun to use, but I really don't take matches seriously enough with her. And Lieselotte is...well...Lieselotte. I use the plant Arcana with her and usually have no problem rushing people down. I just miss her loop combo all the time:rofl: I may just stick with Kamui and practice execution even more on stick.

2C 6D 5A 5B 236A~C, then you get 3 reps of heel kick.

it's a warning against time kamui players to avoid doing 6C > homing to freeze the opponent in "certain situations". i'm not even sure if it involves the time super or not, or if there is a glitch that freezes the opponent somehow off 6c > homing under certain conditions (sorry, i'm a nub).

it says when the freeze does happen, let the opponent un-freeze. and that repeated action will result in a disqualification.

Kira is cheap as hell! And Time Lilica's combos, when executed perfectly, + enough super/homing, removes the concept of "fighting" out of the equasion for nearly the whole round, just like 3S geneijin..

does it warrant a ban? im not sure...well ive played against both of those guys at least a month ago since they play in tokyo, and both are fucking monsters. every time that kira dude is playing, he has at least like a 15-20 streak, so does that time lilica player (it gets hype enough to the point that where if he loses, everyone goes crazy/laughs at him etc.)

however, ive fought against players who have perfect exectuion with time combos, i hate getting hit by that shit, and i think its pretty dumb...but i dont really try to complain about it that much, cause its the game I blow up, so whatever. in training mode I got combo into 6c, 5a xx 6c and it comboed but when i tried it against the computer in arcade mode they just wall teched right away.... Yeah, I've been thinking of jumping onto the Time Lilica bandwagon(which consists of you alone =p). But now, that flashstep has me even more hype. He's basically cruising all over the Goddamn place in that vid. The startup looks pretty easy, but that flashstep.....Oh damn. It just makes Lilica even sexier to watch in action.

Well, there's nothing wrong with Lightning either, and i still side with Lightning being stronger overall. Time is HEAVILY execution based though. Messing up one little part of the combo pretty much means you're screwed. Like, one day i just couldn't hit 236236D after 5C 236a~B 236C, and thus i couldnt like, even do my combo and had i been playing in a tourney against strong players, i would have been done easily. And then there are times when i randomly miss the 236a~B after the 5C, and thats pretty annoying. And even sometimes the 236C after 236a~B doesn't come out. And thats before i even GET into the flashstep (not to contradict you cause i <3 you, but the startup really isn't very easy at all). And there are times when i feel like the flashstep randomly cancels into 5C or 2C and i drop the combo.

But yeah, getting it correct is sooooooooo sexy. :D
