I'm getting a little frustrated with Lilica...I've learned the buttons to press, and now it's just a matter of pressing them quickly, successively, and correctly. Flash Step is a bitch. Who knew that dashing forward after 5B > 214a~C could be so hard? I can't even do Heel Kick loops facing to the left (I'm up to about nine hits facing right, just need to work on ending it). I need A LOT of work. I really haven't practiced my Lise, but tweaked a combo here and there and figured out some things. I won't give up, but I'm just trying to tell myself it'll take some time to get this stuff down. I don't wanna jump on the Kamui/Saki bandwagon (with the exception of those who actually know how to use them). I want to use Lilica and Lieselotte, and I want to be good with them:bgrin:

Plug out the Kamui player controller then proceed to smack the fuck outta them with your stick or pad....Having a Xbox Controller would give you a .0521 boost in dmg.

The one thing you need to remember about fighting Kamui is her range (5B, 5C, 2B) and the occasional counter. Also, look out for 4GC into 421A (Tensa). Make use of Lilica's speed. Crossovers, 2A into pressure game, 2C into Arcana....trust me, I have a hard time just playing Lilica in general. But I do know basic strats just by watching match vids. Doing Accel Slide into 236B, 236C, or even 236A out of nowhere isn't really reccommended, but I've seen Japanese players fall for it from time to time...just pick your spots. 236A can even be a good crossover if you IAD immediately after hopping off of the ground. Just pay attention to the character's positioning relative to Lilica.

That's really interesting stuff. I'm probably going to start using Love with my mains more to see if I can get more potential out of it. I know now from the link I posted earlier that you can combo the beams, and from a match vid you can combo the puffballs with Heart. I am going to see what I can come up with.

I need to start traveling though and play with you guys and stuff, I'd like to see how I'd fair against some of you.

About the love stuff that you talked about. I know about the fact that you can combo the puffballs and the lasers. That stuff was discovered when the game first came out. It's decent for Heart beause it allows her to score easy 0-day damage off combos if youre new to the engine, but when you try to exploit every pixel of damage, those combos dont hold up IMO. Mainly because you have to waste too much meter and homing, and you can get the same benefit while using other arcanas...

This doesnt mean you shouldn't give it a try though, as the game has not hit its peak yet, and new things are still being discovered. Hell, the Japanese have stepped it up enormously in the one month since I left...so yeah, you never know, you might find something new as well. game is still in flux right now for the most part.

I picked up and dropped Kamui in 3 days lol.

I'm dropping Saki because I don't have any fun using her.

I'm keeping fire mei-fang because I love combos.

That just leaves....Lieselotte. I'm having a hard time thinking that the doll is good for anything, because all it seems to do is get hit. Even if I have 421 orbs out right in front of my face, people still jump in/iad and hit it, and that same hit still puts me in blockstun. It's almost like the doll isn't even there.

When I try pressure, I summon the 421 and 214 orbs right on top of them, and after blocking one of the hits, they just throw out a poke and I'm CH if I try 2b, 5b, or an arcana special. AND the doll gets hit. I've found that using the 22 orb summon can setup unblockables, but no one ever bothers to block (if I can get a KD at all).

It's also a real bitch trying to pick the doll back up after it's been hit 3 times. If my hitbox isn't in the EXACT right spot, it doesn't go into the suitcase.

I hear all this talk of her being upper mid/top tier, but outside of SBO, every time I see a lies match she's getting her ass kicked. BY EVERYONE. I understand that she's a hard character to play and get used to, but my day one kamui could beat the people I play whereas my 3 week old lies could not. What's the damn deal?

I don't know anything about how to play Liese, just general stuff, but it sounds like the problem you're having is a lack of experience with the game in general.

You can't expect to practice Liese for 3 weeks and start mopping fools, it takes way WAY more time than that, and you need a intricate knowledge of the engine before you can even START to do anything with her. Liese's potential wasn't even discovered until the end of regular Arcana Heart, before the FULL! upgrades.

About the video stuff, like I've been saying, that's really representative of less than 1% of total Japanese play. You can take it as a small snapshot, but you can't just watch vids and say "liese gets owned in every match." There are decent amounts of tourneys, but you don't hear about the results on SRK, and a lot of the results arent always posted up on JP sites, unless they are big.

She isn't ranked as top tier because of SBO, it's because she has the most potential in the game, some of the best clash games, insane lockdown with traps, variable with different arcanas, insane damage etc. I could go on and on.

Simply put, Kamui is easier to win with if yo udon't know enough about the engine. Lieselotte requires extreme knowledge of the game engine before you can even begin to fuck with ppl. And it's not like she's a popular choice in Japan either - I've probably played about 5 skilled Liese players, tops in my whole time I've been playing AH. However, the players that play with her, tend to end up doing really really well and have really good yomi and prediction. Obviously, when you play Lieselotte, you have to have good yomi and predict what theyre going to do in advance - otherwise you won't be doing shit.

He's one of the best players I've had the pleasure to play against in this game.

I live in Augusta, Georgia. I'm actually gonna travel a lot more this next year and see if I can get up to NY for some matches.

Konoha's my main character, and I normally play wind, water, gier, fire or love. I just learned the fire loops where I can do them in my sleep and all, so I'm incorporating it in my game. I like to have options against people, because different people have different play styles and what not, so I will pick the Arcana according to what will be effective pretty much. I think my favorite ones though are water, gier, and fire. Wind I use if I need to be more mobile for keepaway/rushdown, and love, I just like to have fun with it, and from playing with it I've found new ways to create mixups using the triple puffballs.

But yeah, I'm gonna take my butt up to some places eventually to play more and ish.

Ohio doesn't even know the game exists really. Only a few of my friends are willing to play the game (one of which is pretty good with Mei-Fang...Chun-Li 2.0). He did one AH casual at my PS3 at SB II, but he was the only one who played it to my knowledge that I knew personally. Don't get me started on how much SH_ hates the game:rofl:

Does Plant Arcana really suck? I've been toying with it in practice mode but the only thing semi-useful I can do with it is to use the vines like to extend combos in the corner. Seeds seem too damn useless since they don't deploy fast enough. :/

THE heart player does one of the plant unblockable setups with the seeds starting at 00:25. He does it several times through the match with different setups...the kira player counters it a lil in round 2 tho. anyway, great match from both players, those guys are both monsters who use oddball arcanas.

kamui can pop a bubble with 5c whenever she gets a knock down, i think.

i actually don't really know how people deal with water in general... it just seems like a lot of stuff is up to random chance.

i've seen some people use the fire super in block strings, just for the purpose of killing off bubbles.


EDIT: speaking of water... i've read in a japanese site that the ps2 glitch with water charged 6c applies to all characters. the game will freeze whenever the charged 6c hits any kind of "object" with hit box (i.e. projectiles, time back dash after-image).

vs water arcana, if a player activates super and youre knocked down, youre in trouble. during this time that bubbles are activated, its advised to run away and not try to hit her, cause its too risky. you can only damage off throws mainly, or if you can do specific moves to try to pop all bubbles at once...off the top of my head, heres a few setups that burst bubbles, like for example, you can do steel super (w/steel arcana) to pop all the bubbles.. saki flashkick super on block or hit will kill the bubbles... kamui neutral throw comboed into C tenza will kill the bubbles and hit her....you still cant escape kira's throws...etc etc.

about the anti konoha stuff, you havent told me what character youre using..she doesnt have much in the way of weaknesses, since shes not a shitty character.

about the time kamui stuff, if you want me to write a transcript of some time kamui combos, i will..i havent tried them myself but the notation shouldnt be too hard if i watch a video.

I'm playing time kamui. My biggest problem is when she gets in, I have trouble getting her out because any quick poke I can use when she has a gap in her pressure to start my own offense usually hits a bubble and I get owned for it. Also bubbles limit me from using 4GC into kamui's air super, so I really don't have much in the way of defense, I just have to let her rushdown and try to predict throws until the bubbles disappear.

Some time combos would be good though, thanks a lot for the help Sabin ^_^

edit: I also play gier, if that might be useful. Just been trying to make a transition over to time because it seems really good. Just maybe not vs. water konoha. (I haven't had a chance to play the dude again since I switched over to time)

@Guardian: those are AHF matches, just look at the game timer if it is purple then you're watching a AHF match, if it is blue then its the original

@xS A M U R A Ix: the thing about konoha is her stubby limbs since she's so small but her speed makes up for this more often then not. But when given the chance you should use any normals that have long reach to out poke konoha and hit confirms into combos or w/e. Water Konoha is got to be one of the most annoying opponent to face against in AH because of the small hit box accompanied by combo stopping water bubbles... :( Just go into the defensive and try to run away until the bubbles wear out or try to pop them using special/arcana moves/supers depending on who you're using and what arcana you picked as pointed out by Sabin. For Kamui Time combos I suggest you just go watch dat Youtube for dem jap vids as I'm sure none of us here use Time Kamui like that anyway :/

But I generally run when she activates the bubble super, with an emphasis on staying in the air... beware the unblockable... as to avoid bubble's/konoha's super throw. I use gier pretty liberally so that pops alot of the bubbles anyway. I

As for the Konoha fight, I THINK that the gier super might take out all the bubbles pretty well, since it's 3 hits and has a gigantic hit box. I'll have to mess with it and see.

Dunno what Kamui does after that but it seems like she initiated the Kamui bug? she got launched for a few wimes with 3c/6c and didnt tech...maybe she just chose not to techh or maybe the bug did set into place, im not sure. I think it's the bug.

also at that video at around 3:17, kamui did a midscreen setup into time loop but messed up the followup. he did 2a 2b 2c into C fireball XX HC5, jA jC XX time super. Not bad, but you have to be close otherwise the fireball will OTG them instead of juggling.

Dunno what Kamui does after that but it seems like she initiated the Kamui bug? she got launched for a few wimes with 3c/6c and didnt tech...maybe she just chose not to techh or maybe the bug did set into place, im not sure. I think it's the bug.

also at that video at around 3:17, kamui did a midscreen setup into time loop but messed up the followup. he did 2a 2b 2c into C fireball XX HC5, jA jC XX time super. Not bad, but you have to be close otherwise the fireball will OTG them instead of juggling.

One way you should think about doing is trying to get at distances where you get him to activate bubbles in unsafe places. You can then combo him while they are activating. Also, end blocked ground chains with a gier call. This way, you can potentially get rid of a bubble or two should you do gier super, and not get punished for it.

Pushblock isn't the that great for keeping people out in this game. they can get back on you so quick it sort of negates the point of having an pushblock.

Like woof said, you have to time it before the dash ends. I've had my fair share of trouble with Lilica recently, and I've worked out the worst of the High Pressure (Accel Dash cancel) timing.

For instance, when doing the Flash Step combo, the notation often used is:

5B > 214 a~C

The 214 a~C is done right before the end of the 5B animation. The trick here is NOT pushing A, then A+C. Thanks to the way the game mechanics are designed, you're allowed to get an instant cancel by just pressing A+C....but only after doing a normal (most notably 5B). If all you're doing is 214 a~C, all she will do is dash. If you're doing 236 a~C, you should be performing the instant heel kick. You have to push 236 A (Lilica will squat, preparing to dash), then C directly after the A press. What I reccommend is just going to training mode and practicing the notation for the Flash Step I have above so you can get the jist of it.

oooh!! tons of potential here. i cant read the japanese but from what im seeing...fiona does clean hit super, activates arcana, then neutral double jumps? (in order to keep her body backturned) then does nine-tails super which tracks torward fiona. fiona didnt do anything afterwards, but i know you cannot GC when you are blocking ninetails until after it leaves the screen...they are stuck and im assuming you get a free 3c or whatever into near-death combo.

kinda situational but i can see it used in gameplay if someone mastered the setup and they are near the corner.

btw, theres lots of new combos from that youtube user for a few diff chars, so check it out fo sho.

oooh!! tons of potential here. i cant read the japanese but from what im seeing...fiona does clean hit super, activates arcana, then neutral double jumps? (in order to keep her body backturned) then does nine-tails super which tracks torward fiona. fiona didnt do anything afterwards, but i know you cannot GC when you are blocking ninetails until after it leaves the screen...they are stuck and im assuming you get a free 3c or whatever into near-death combo.

I was clearing everybody's storymode and I ended up glitching the game when I activated immediately after mildred's super. The game just got pretty stuck and I couldn't continue fighting. I reset the game, but later I ended up doing it AGAIN. To my surprise I was able to use the start menu and I used that to go straight to the character select screen. I started playing again and got these cool things.

- the now loading thing happened to me too, it's gone after i eject the game and put it back in

- never encountered the mildred glitch but it's pretty sad if you are fighting her to unlock graphics and this shit happens. But one time she does the super and she never reappears until time up. Everything's fine in round 2.

flash step combos arent that hard in comparison

landing clean hit super more than 50% of the time is v. difficult because the timing is way diff than reg clean hit and thats something ive been trying to practice for a while now. in comparison, doing a generic long combo is a whole lot easier to master than being able to do clean hit super reliably enough to be "guaranteed"

Fiona has no way to get out of unblockable setups in the corner from Gier. I think she's got like one option worth noting, but then that's a given because she sucks anyway.

Mostly getting trashed by Poison, Lightning, and Fire there, plus this one time with Water bubble shenanigans. i'm still new at the game (and suck at it), but for all i know... super gier set up isn't that menacing most of the time. it seems like main purpose of that super is to keep your opponent glued to the ground so you can get a pressure in. even from watching matches, the only times people seem to get hit is if they panic and try to force their way out. seems more like a psyche strategy, if anything.

the only thing in this game that resembles brokenness on wake-up to me is: lieselotte doing double marker after capping a loop in the corner, and charge 6c into lightning super. i don't even know if there are others that's considered a legitimate "unblockable" setups on wake up that you can do consistently.

I never posted on Shoryuken until September this year either. I was never a big forum poster until Pokemon this past summer...gamefaqs.com got me addicted to Pokemon and forum posting. Thank goodness I stopped playing it back in July:sweat: I use several characters in GNT4. Some are more solid than others, but I have at least two good combos and strategies for each character I play. I played a couple of casuals at SB II. But before that....ummmm......earlier this year (February or March I think), before my Freeloader disc got broken:sad: I have yet to buy a new one, thanks to games like Arcana Hate...I mean, Heart.

I have GOT to find a way to travel more, so I can play some good people in AH and some other games. Nobody outside my circle of five friends plays/knows about/cares about AH in Ohio. I think I'm the only one who plays/knows about/cares about AH to an extreme:lovin: One of my friends has played it once, and hates it...he hated it after seeing Maori loops in YT vids:rofl:

On a US PS3, no. On a Japanese PS3, yes. But you have to buy PS2 to PS3 controller convertors to use stick on the PS3, which have a very slight delay. Controller convertors in general have delays, but it's nothing too extreme (unless you're playing Tekken or Soul Calibur, then you might notice a lag). Your best bet is to -- as Deathscythe said -- buy a Japanese PS2 or a Swap Disc. The Swap Disc is your best bet (about $30-$40), unless you have about an extra $200-$300 laying around. Importing is a b****.:annoy: I'd buy one myself for my PS2, but.....I'm trying to save my money for a $400 laptop at Wal-Mart on Black Friday:lovin:

ah2 has been announced since way back, so im not sure how much longer this game will last. it depends on a number of things, like when ah2 comes out/console release of ah2. too murky now. i think the game has longevity but a sequel is on the way, so the future of the game is unclear right now.

first post will answer your questions about tiers. no not everyone plays the same 3/4 chars (at least not in japan anyway...) as for whether it's worth studying on, well, i dont know why youre asking us, since obviously we have a skewed opinion. thats up to you, if you like the feel of the game and have comp to play with. if your location is in japan as you say, why don't you go to some local arcades that have ah and watch some good comp and decide for yourself thru that or match vids.

there are a lot of nuances to this game, as it is with any tourney worthy fighter so youll have to do your homework.
