The numbers at NEC are more of a testament to the people posting here than a slam against MB, If you play that tape from the room hotel room a little longer even the people there were like, where the hell did 40 people come from for arcana?

you must have forgotten about the first 4-6 tourneys that happened over the past year in CF/texas/sbo quals where we were struggling to get heads like mad. Remember the first tourney had like 8 ppl? Or when Rob, fubar, myself, tian and kaneda, crimsondisaster and others (like Hal) were posting strats/videos/HYPE like MAD when the game first came out and noone gave a shit. And you all know my story with this game. I invested $900+ on a game that would probably be hella unpopular and cost me even more money for tournament fees/gas/etc., and fubar spent that much and more for the upgrade chip, Japan trip, etc. Even after selling the board, I seriously doubt either of us broke even or came close, really. That's not counting hours taken to practice, watch vids, etc.
And then there's peeps like Stone, Eric, Arturo, etc. who have gone out of their way just to play the game (including you, at one point) and who have invested money, energy, time, time off from work/school, etc. to enjoy this game and get hype/make dat money/get loli/etc.

And of course the game didn't really take off till a console release hit... but would there have even been a scene to explode if it weren't for people keeping it hype in between SBO and the console release?

1) I, too, play both MB and AH, although my MB game is super casual at the moment

2) I would have loved to hype AH up when it was still in the rough stages, but as you can see, I didn't join this site until September....I was still watching YT vids, wishing that I could play the game (I actually remember telling people about the game)

I tried that glitch with the steel Arcana (3C > 236 A+B+C) on my PS3, with my original copy of the game. My results: That's just some bad programming. Examu just didn't take the time to work out all of the bugs:shake: It could've been much better. But seeing as there are no AH cabs here in Ohio, and I can't afford to drive out of town to play an AH cab ATM, I'm stuck playing my console version...which isn't that bad. I can do Lieselotte and Lilica loops without the game crashing on me, so I'm not complaining.

Renegade and I recorded a few matches just before I left for U S & A, so I converted them to FLV and uploaded them. I'm on a mac, I don't really know what compression software is good for mac, but I have adobe and it converted to FLV and made stuff pretty small.

Anywho, neither of us have ever played anyone else. Well, I played some japs back in February, but I didn't even know how to do a basic bread and butter then and I kind of just played one handed and slowly fondled myself while looking at the sprites. True story, but I think about half of the japanese players did that anyways so I fit right in.

So yeah, we were looking for some gameplay advice. I'm sure we get the basic stuff like "Don't drop the combo" but there are a lot of holes in our games, a lot of stuff we could probably punish but don't, a lot of missed opportunities. I'm not asking for you to watch every match (there are 31 I think) but at least sample a couple and let us know.

Also fuck steel arcana. I don't think it would be so bad if we played 2 out of 3, but we were playing 3 out of 5. Fuck that shit.

I'm first player in all the matches, he's second. I've labeled them accordingly.

Hopefully at least one person will watch them.

The only reason this game has an EC scene is because cf got a cab. That started the chain of events and everything followed.

Don't talk like 8 entrees for your first tournament is struggling. Try going for years without getting past 8.

What chibi says about the stereotypes thrown to melty applying to arcana is true, but no one throws them at arcana. Melty got shitted on for a long time because of stupid bullshit, like it only has girls, which isn't even true. There is the occasional crap comment said about arcana, but it doesn't even come close to the treatment that melty got.

Don't put the strifes of AH in the same boat as the MB scene. The only similarity between the two is that they didn't take off on release day.

Anyway after about 4 losses I remember rob telling me that you can 4GC and avoid the rock punch. Which from my experience last night leaves Kamui WIIIIIDE OPEN after B, C Rock punch. Then I started thinking about all of those vids of people playing Noel and all of those people just standing there. Is 4GC overlooked? is it just me? Is there a way to avoid getting fucked up if someone 4GCs a ground rock punch that I am not noticing? It made me decide to give that option a second look.

You play Konoha. Just down block and you won't get hit and you can 2B2C through that shit easily.

And yes, 4GC works as well, but your character doesn't need that. Just tested it out with Konoha down blocking.

No, I know that but I wasn't playing konoha last night, I'm kind of sick of punking out on my secondary every tournament so I put konoha on the shelf until this next tournament. There were 2 matches at NEC were I know Mei Fang was the better matchup for me and I got scared and played Konoha anyway.
I don't have any real confidence in her for some reason even though I get more wins with her than my Konoha, which makes no sense at all.

Yo Blackshinobi, The reason Noel gets them wins is cause he has been playin rock kamui for a while and knows when to use that rock punch. For instance he will use it after you did a combo that required two homing cancels and if you homing cancel away from the rock punch you now have 3 x's and cant land a good combo. and with 3 x's he goes in for unblockable and grabs and u cant get away without homing bars. Well I will see you guys on sat.

At around 18 seconds in Lilica airthrows Maori into a corner. She then charges a time 6[C] and performs a heelkick on wakeup. Then all of a sudden Nee-san just flies across from the OTHER side of the screen and pwns Lilica. WHAT?! Doesn't look like Lilica crossed Maori up at any point there so yeah. Can anyone explain this? What happens is when you input the command in the direction Maori is facing, thats the direction nee-san will appear from.

i don't know why the maori player did that in the first place. i don't think he knew he was going to get crossed up, because if so... he probably would have done the A sister instead of C sister.

so i'm guessing he was hoping lilica to go for a mix-up instead of releasing 6[C] as meaty, and thought he could get her with C whip. that's super-dangerous, though. i deal with corner 6[C] stuff from rob the all the time, and it seems like the safest option for maori is to just sit there and block, and try to counter or escape when she comes in for a mix-up. well-timed 6GC > 421A can beat the gap, but it's dangerous when it fails.

Nah, Maori was getting up backwards. Its like when mei fang gets up backwards and you try to DP, you get the flip instead.

What the player did was probably knew he was gonna get up backwards, so did the RDP to make the nee-san come out regardless, as that would be the only option that would work if Maori was backturned.

- In the first clash battle, it ends with both trying to spam 236 A+B. I think the game actually slowed down

In the third round, after Rock Lilica activates Arcana Force, the camera does some weird shifts for a second


On a side note, I've finally managed to do Heart's advanced IAD combo. I practiced it on D-Pad first just for the sake of doing it, then moved on to stick. I still have lazy stick movements, but I'll work it out eventually. I actually think Heart is kinda fun to play. I may drop Lilica or Lieselotte for her. Or I could just practice using all three:bgrin:

Lightning 3C clashes right away, even tho he let go
Earth 3C doesn't clash due to super armor

so one clash occurs, and then they both hit simultaneously. It's not as if they each hit the other's clash frame like they did with the supers...

The camera change is due to the lightning Lilica trying to 214A+B. Notice his bar drops 1 stock each time he tries it. (goes from 2 --> 1, then 1 --> 0)

BTW that match was awful. Both players looked like novices. The controls looked broken, im not even lying. Their decision making wasn't that great either, unless they were SERIOUSLY messing around. No clash battle should ever go:
2A 2B 2C 236A+B.

At the 2B clash, they should have done the 236A+B or mashed 2A, not done 2C first.

Nah, Maori was getting up backwards. Its like when mei fang gets up backwards and you try to DP, you get the flip instead.

What the player did was probably knew he was gonna get up backwards, so did the RDP to make the nee-san come out regardless, as that would be the only option that would work if Maori was backturned.
Yeah, that's right. I found another example with Lilica, it's the same if you 236A+B in the corner. When you land you are facing backwards so will do the oposite of what you should do.

Rob, I must thank you once again. I just got done watching your NEC matches on YouTube, and wrote down some notations. I was having trouble trying to figure out how to end Lilica's advanced loops. Now I just need to go practice doing them. I'm just going to stick to Lightning Lilica for now though...the Time stuff is beyond my execution level at this moment.

And on a side note...I think I may be able to play the new Naruto EX game on Wii next weekend. I'm excited:lovin:

At 4:35, Maori and Kamui clash, then they both super simultaneously. First Maori (1P side) does her start-up animation, then Kamui (2P side) does her start-up animation, then they both continue as normal.

I'm not going through 5100 posts just to make sure this hasn't been posted, but I did notice in the first post that nobody knows what powers the Dark Arcana (Gier) gives you on activation are.

According to this:

I don't know if they mean just your character's specials, Gier's specials, or BOTH. It also doesn't say exactly how much it powers up, either.

i don't know if you can use the gier specials during arcana force... it doesn't really matter anyway since most characters just do 1~3 hit combos with their strong normals and specials/supers (depending on who you are) during the gier arcana force.

The arcana one was the one I was hoping to bring to NEC. I just randomly came across that morrigan stick for sale in the trading outlet forums and I jumped on it immediately. Now I'm trying to figure out how have seperate uses for both of them (It feels like such a waste for either of them to be just sitting around not being used) so I took the Morrigan one to the arcade today and started playing Tekken 5DR with it just because it has a PS2 joystick slot.

Yeah, but the DP is prone to bait. Especially since she isn't the fastest char. That DP and her life draining super are her two best wake up options. But of course, this all stems from Hal's Yoriko, since no one here is ever gonna play a Japanese Yoriko. Fubar is the closest we'll get.

Plus, she has to rely on gimmicks a lot more than everyone else.

Actually its hard to bait and punish Yoriko's DP because of the attack's huge hit box. Your gonna block it more often than not when you step into her range when you want to try and bait it...unless the opponent is spazztastic with the DPs (Hyperhal) I don't see Yoriko getting her DP punished much outside of GCing the attack :/
Yoriko is a defensive character and she sucks when she's on the offensive, she don't got that many ways to get in on the opponent and lots of her moves have hella recovery which means a free burst and/or punish. Her supers suck and damage output suck, the only good thing about her is her DP, pent mode, and a decent keep away. To sum it up: lots of effort, high risk low reward = Yoriko sux :(
This is just my analysis of Yoriko, if you disagree with this feel free to post up what you think.

i meant her damage is still average compared to rest of the cast, even after she powers up. her pent mode bnb with one homing bar and no fire super deals anywhere around 8,000 - 9,000.

she seems to have the weakest damage output in the game when she is in normal mode.

Ok....I'm back at home from Ohayocon. Had the time of my life! With the exception of a few things......

I had the pleasure of meeting Lloyd from Chicago. HeartNana knows him. He posts on the GGPO forums for Vampire Saviour. He has a nasty Kira (Stone Kira is soooo gay), and his Time Fiona was solid. Thanks to him, two people bought the game from the vendors after watching our casuals. Mad smart dude when it comes to fighting games. He even complimented me on my Lilica, saying that I was pretty good for a newb at an anime con:lovin: And watching him play HnK was very entertaining:rofl:

I made it to the top 8 in Naruto 4. Don't know how I pulled that one off. The guy I lost to wasn't even that good. But I'm happy I made it that far.

Yep....I think he made it to 14 hits:rofl: I didn't even fight Temari oddly enough. Had I won my third match, I would have more than likely met him in the semi-finals. I regret picking Kidoumaru against Itachi:sad: I hadn't played the game in at least 6 months, so I got in zero hours of practice before the tourney. I just remembered my combos with random characters and went for it.

BTW I think I'm going to drop Liese. I have a long road ahead of me with Lilica execution. I've been constantly dropping the 236 A~c buffer after 2ABC > 6SC* > 5A >5B. I don't know that it is, but I'll figure it out.

6C charge is good gaurd break for plant... like guard break 6 {C} hit the wall.. then 5C, 236 D, 4D, 3B, jb, djbc, 241 C into super PAYBACK!!..

there are other setups you could possibly do... like instead of 241 C just do 2C into seeds (perferbaly seed super... instant recovery!!) and maybe unblockable setups there... cuse if they don't tech.. seeds don't form until they get up so... when they tech seeds start forming ... and doing 2C... it's all theroy.. but im going to try it out this weekend...

I dont think mei fang has a set best. Depends on how you play. Gier is really good for her too, similar to how water is. She does a ton of damage in a juggle, and sets it up into another one.

combos are the easy part...without a doubt... unless you play like maori or lillica lol... like i don't have to look at the screen to know how to combo into it...

the general gameplay isn't... just lots of stuff ya need to know... or have semi- knowledge of... arcanas, the charcters, GC, clashes, when to arcana activate, still that knowledge you need to know... combos are teh easy ( shit ill admit fire fiona combos are the most easy combos ever!!!).. but there's alot shit i need to figure out before i can get into it...

To answer both:
1. After the 5A-5B-236A~C the opponent can recover before the 236B-236C connects. You need to HC2-236A~C after the 5A-5B-236A~C before going into the 236B-236C xn.

2. Assuming you mean the flash step, use 214A+C or 236A+C. It works better, it's just the timing's a little more difficult to get.

Yeah, training mode CPU pops out of it if you're doing full screen and mid screen loop. Humans won't. That I can guarantee. Happens to me, but at tournies, they get caught.

I'm going through the same thing my friend. Once you learn notations and timing, the next step is execution.....of course, you know this already. But just practice your ass off...practice until you get sick of it. Lilica's Bnb's are indeed difficult to do, but just practice practice practice until it feels natural.

If you read what i wrote, they wont flip out if the 5B is at MAX RANGE. (or the 2C, rather, which is what i wrote in the wiki, which is fine)

If they ARE flipping out, you NEED to do 6D 5A 5B 214A+C 5B 236a~C to get them all to connect because thats NORMAL 2C range.

I looked at the wiki and changed it around so it's easier to understand (i hope) but i didn't see anything misleading about what was originally wrote.

And while deathscythe said humans wont pop out, i partially disagree. The humans i played against did. Just learn the guaranteed combo for your own sake. Not to say they'll pop out everytime, but its a lot easier if you learn whats truly guaranteed.

At the end of the last round, I found it amusing that when the Time Arcana froze the clock, it pretty much guaranteed Kira would get the last hit of her super before time ran out :razzy:.

Personally I like fire for her. I see why people use water too, it's great for rush and pretty much gives you free combos if people aren't careful, but the thing I like about fire is that it covers your entry so well and also gives you some valuable zoning tools.

Like, if you do air fireball and homing or dash in with it, it's pretty much a free j.C which will either combo if the fireball hit or will be so tight they can't anti air you with anything or jump away. It basically let's you get in on them for free. Also with fire and mei fang you get.....

a nice spacing tool with 63214D that combos into dash up 6B j.C 5HC j.C 6B j.C HC j.C 6B j.C HC j.C 6B j.A j.B JC j.B j.C 632146D air dash 41236C for like 60%

fireball loop off 3C or her 214 super that does like 50% or more.

unblockable setup with 632146D

combo for no homing meter with 2C 214B 632146D into an air combo.

I think it's a nice trade for having bubbles.

I don't think I'm gonna use her, I'm just stating what with more time I can get a feel for all the characters, and that Lilica is a really fun character. Flashstep is super inconsistent, but every so often I'll get it out and I'll gloat to myself for hours. Maori is next!

A question I wanted ask is, for when you 5B 214A+C 5B, now that cancel right there, can you only do 214A+C coming off of a normal, or can you do it standalone. I was trying to get it out without any sort of hitconfirm, but I felt as if you'd need to hit something first before 214A+C becomes an option.

Okay I can do corner combo 6D 5AB FS B FS B 236A~C now, trying to take it slow although I seem to have found the beat for Lilica's FS. You can't input it as fast as everything else, you kinda have to delay it coming off the 5B. Regarding Maori, the good thing coming out of this is that I'll have more respect for Maori players, with being able to see how hard her combos are.

Definitely. I thought it was impossible for me to even do FS, but thats until I actually sat down and tried it. Takes time, yes, but so does everyone else. I'm just finding this a good exercise to get my execution up, which I seem to have a huge problem with. Honestly with training mode I can sit down for at least 4 hours just grinding out combos, not having it before was a real disadvantage.

Too bad I won't have it anymore by the end of the weekend. :(

Well, it looks like the good times of having Arcana at home is over, now I'm back to hoping I get chance to even play the game for 5 minutes a day. :(

Before the game became unavailable, I figured out the funky Yoriko combo(the burst safe one), so I'll be adding that to the wiki right now. I already added the damages/frames for all of her normals, grabs, and supers(excluding the airgrab), and I confirmed that there are a maximum of 18 pumps possible with her super-grab. I added what I felt were the arcana tiers according to her, and I'll be adding what you should be doing against each character/arcana slowly during computer class when I have free time.

I'm kinda sad, I wanted to do so much more with Arcana, but thats once again a dream until I can secure myself a job.

EDIT: I noticed I forgot to explain some of her specials, and I forgot to record damages while in pentagram mode. Sorry to the 3 people that play Yoriko, I'll try to get that stuff(unless it's already been recorded somewhere on the internets).

I'm still trying to get people to put sticks up on this account to keep record of them in case something goes missing and I am trying to get a good number of them up before this tournament year really starts off. If anyone is interested check out that thread. I think sticks are the one the most easy to identify things that go missing during tournaments so its a good way to find out who is taking all of this shit. I'm still trying to get people to put sticks up on this account to keep record of them in case something goes missing and I am trying to get a good number of them up before this tournament year really starts off. If anyone is interested check out that thread. I think sticks are the one the most easy to identify things that go missing during tournaments so its a good way to find out who is taking all of this shit. Hopefully some of the other arcana players can help give this thing a start.

Has anyone tried working out character matchup ratings? Just for each character and their 2 most popular arcana, doing the whole thing would just be stupid. It might be both helpful and distracting from bubz.

My opinion on what the 2 best arcanas are for every character:
Fiona - Fire/Dark (unblockable charge 3C/gier blob abuse [236ABC arcana force] aka smack the blob with dat sword)
Mei Fang - Fire/Water (Ouch! it BURNS!/unrelenting rushdown)
Kira - Rock/Lightning (ghey setups :shake: )
Lilica - Lightning/Time (solid arcana/dat hax combo)
Yoriko - Fire/Dark (better damage output for the shitty character :shake:/dat pressure game)
Heart - Fire/Lightning (dat damage/dat clash)
Saki - Lightning/Dark (solid arcana/chances are if you can use Saki, you can use Gier too :wgrin:)
Maori - Poison/Lightning (Poison loop makes people frown :sad:/solid arcana)
Kamui - Dark/Water (its teh ghey/dat rushdown)
Konoha - Dark/Water (ghey setups/its unfair :sad:)
Lieselotte - Poison/Lightning (Poison loop makes people want to quit :shake:/dat corner rape)
