Oh Potemkin is pretty fucking retarded good in AC, he's his own character type now. I mean he does the damage that he does off a half circle motion for his command grabs, that's just wrong. Don't even get me started on his other shit.

Well is it fair to give a character a command throw that does 30% to 40% (not even counting the super versions) and then give them the means to get in on you easily? That's what makes the character type fun to work with, the actual act of getting in. It's a reward for doing so. When Zangief finally gets right in your face you can just kiss your ass goodbye. By giving him mobility you lose the fun of working hard to get in, because now you can just do it with minimal effort.

Your idea of grappler is stuck in World Warrior Zangief when grapplers have changed dramatically since then. Now apparently Zangief himself isn't a grappler!

Well that's why I said it's a reward on being able to get in, and that they've given him the tools to get there. It's not easy, but that REALLY is the fun of the character type.

Well if you give them the better movement options look what happens. They become an entirely different archetype. They're just not a grappler anymore, and in many cases they end up being high to top tier. Obviously that's not a bad thing, but it's not a grappler character anymore.

I can't look at a game like 3S that has HUGO in it, and then look at Makoto, and say, yeah, they're both grapplers. That doesn't click at all.

The gayest thing happened to me Wednesday....I was practicing in AH when I pulled my PS2 off the shelf. The cord on the AH stick wasn't as long as I thought it was. As a result of the PS2 falling, my copy of AH got scratched. Now I can't get the disc to load on the PS2....if I want to practice before the U.S. release, I have to play on the PS3 which has a little lag. Like I said, the gayest thing ever. I guess I could always buy a DVD repair kit or something and remove the scratches.

I finally managed to get my AH copy working in my PS2 again!:woot: Back to the lab.....

And Kira is not one either.

No grappler should have that much mobility / speed, it upsets the balance of having their throws do so much damage in the first place.

There never was an alliance, I don't see how that ever came to be. Noone in the MB community hates AH1 (except me), but then noone really cares for it either. I don't understand this whole holding hands and running towards the sunset deal you think is going on anyway.

It's just you guys are in a sticky situation now. Thanks to Examu being a bunch of morons, you've got to handle pushing AH1, but the area that primarily plays the game to begin with (CF, UP, and some other place I'm sure) are going to be gung ho for AH2 in like two weeks.

Good luck pushing that, seriously, because I'm pretty sure noone is going to bother with AH1 when there's three arcade set ups available for its sequel well within reasonable traveling distance of one another.

Good point ,but I know that AH2 will get little to no play in Ga because the arcade scene is damn near gone. The little that there is will be playing more traditional games. Well, it kind of sucks having so much of the hype move over to AH2 when we're just now getting a US release of AH1. But AH1 is still a really fun game, imo at least. Once the summer starts, I'll probably end up playing Brawl and Third Strike a lot more than Arcana Heart, since I actually have friends in Waterloo who play those games, but I'll never miss an opportunity to get some competitive AH action! I actually prefer it over Brawl and 3s. :smile:

Naturally, I'll try to answer any AH questions that come our way. I may not be very good, but I have seen several hundred videos on youtube :looney:.

Besides, there is probably still plenty of stuff to be discovered in AHF, since it's been out for less than a year and most Japanese players will probably focus on AH2 now, giving the rest of us without access to AH2 a chance to find some new and cool tricks for AHF.

Can some one explain to me how the whole Arcana system works at all? All I know for certain is that the Arcana add certain special and super moves to your character, maybe some properties as well such as having quicker air dashes or something.

From some matches I watched, I guessed that you can either use meter to use a super move, which is determined by Arcana, or use a Burst-esque move that can be used to cancel anything, even hitstun to get out of combos and moves to bait a punish.

I recommend checking out the Arcana Heart Wiki (http://guardcrush.net/wiki/index.php/Main_Page), which lists all the properties of each Arcana.

You've got the right ideas, pretty much. :smile: And yeah, you can activate your Arcana at most once per round, and it breaks you out of almost any combo (the game won't let you activate in the middle of a super auto-combo, for example).

By the way, activating your Arcana also replenishes your 3 homing bars. I've seen only a few players (Maori players) who sometimes activate their Arcana solely for this purpose.

Lastly, it might be worth pointing out that after you activate, there's a short period where you're (mostly-)invincible, but you can't counterattack right away. You can block/attack as soon as the invincibility ends. However, I THINK you can be thrown immediately after activating, even during the "invincibility". Example: see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lA0iH7SKfv8 , at the end of the last round.


PS: Thanks for the videos, Capps. I've seen only the 1st set of the grand finals so far, and it was crazy. Matches going back and forth, with Rob consistently getting those Time supers and Arturo playing solid. Several really close finishes, too. Good stuff :tup:.

I especially liked that part where Arturo activated in the air and then Rob crossed under him (a cross-down?) and went into another combo :looney:.

So far, it seems like standing back and letting newcomers bash against each other is the best thing to do when I manage to get the disc into a Waterloo PS2, while teaching them new techniques and strats between matches. (It's actually fun/hype to watch and they seem to have a lot of fun playing, too. Just another reason AH is so good. :smile:) I'm thinking maybe I should bring it up earlier and more often in between periods of 3s, then let others go at it. Also, maybe sharing cool match vids with them more often on MSN would help. :wonder:

Yeah, that would be great if we can get more players to embrace AH more. I remember one time a while back someone mentioned that Capcom had something to do with the PS2 verison, so we all were saying "Praise the new CAPCOM game Arcana Heart" since a majority of the fighters are either Capcom, SNK, and Arc System works fanatics and they refuse to touch any other fighters that are not from those companies.

But I think a lot of people will be surprised at the quirky personalities of the characters in the game. It was pretty surprising for me as someone who played the Japanese version extensively, but doesn't understand very much Japanese.

Gasaraki: I look forward to a match of Arcana Heart with you. It's great to see that someone from around here is interested in this game!

Gorehound: Best Buy (and Wal-Mart and the other large retail chains) carried Odin Sphere mainly because it was one of Atlus' more mainstream titles. As you might imagine, Arcana Heart is a bit more niche than Odin. You'll most likely have to go to a retailer that focuses on video games to find Arcana Heart.

From Oklahoma and we are just getting into this game picked up Gier-Kamui. Went to the guardcrush wiki and watched some vids to get an idea of what to do, but still got a couple questions. I know her Fireball super combo's are the strongest combo's she has post sweep, but what is the strongest non-super combo she has post sweep?

Current one i'm doing is 1A1B1C 41236A 6HC IAD j.A > dj. A dj. C land j. A j. B > j. B j. C 421 C or A. Picked it out from the wiki haven't bothered to learn any other followups yet so just curious which i should concentrate on next. Liked it cuz it only cost 1 homing bar but after playing a bit i noticed i tended to have an excess of homing bar especially when i was in a dominating position since i didn't have to guard cancel often.

I know someone can homing out when i guard cancel into 421-A, but I was wondering if they could do it after the super flash of the 421-AB super? I know you can't "burst" after super flashes but I never bothered to check if you could homing cancel out of the setup. Don't have the game at the moment or i'd check myself, waiting for the English version to come out.

Like the Gier-super lockdown that gier offers as it allows you to keep up the pressure pretty easily and if they try to jump out of it you get to setup a 3B air-unblockable combo, but I was noticing the Time arcana seemed to be really useful just because the backdash allows you to get a B>C super or bigger combo whenever they fall for it. Hell backdashing out of an air attack into an air combo is hella sexy. So just curious if Gier had any other advantages I hadn't really noticed yet?

For her j.2C crossup is their a trick to get the right height? I always seem to airdash to low except v. Konoha to just IAD and do it. So i end up doing this lazy ass jump to cross up but it really isn't that ambiguous so curious if I just need to IAD higher or if their is a trick.

Also any tips vs. Liesolette? Doing probably the best off of my friends at the sec, but figure that'll change once they become more wise to some of my cheesy setups like airunblockable 3B's after a tech and stuff like that. Liesolette seems really scary with that loop she can do just about anywhere, when i was watching vids thought she could only do it in the corner but my friend was doing it midscreen and was taking like 40% or so of my life yeck.

Hoping to get decent by evo, so maybe can play some of you guys there if you go. Also if anyone who lives in Texas or another surrounding state wants to game I could see about arranging something with some of the OK guys if anyone's desperate for comp maybe after we get more oriented in the game. If it was to far though you'd probably have to also have some 3S or GGXXAC going to make it worth the drive.

I don't know her strongest, as her damage overall isn't that great anymore anyways, but i would advise using a burst-safe one (or at least one that's difficult to punish with burst), which is the one arturo uses, which goes something like:

Yea, if someone 4Ds at the same time as the super (or after seeing the super flash) they wont get hit by it.

So just curious if Gier had any other advantages I hadn't really noticed yet? Keep in mind that with Time, you lose the ability to combo off of 2C, and if you can't do the extremely hard time combo, then you dont really get as much out the character IMO. With gier, even hitting with normal gier, Kamui has enough range to do a 5A 3B and slam them back down into gier mixups. After Kamui's throw, activating 236236D is rediculously good because it leaves her right next to the opponent with gier on top of them. Defensively, it's also strong because you can do BC gier and now if your opponent comes at you, you can let go of gier at will and possibly get a free combo.

Kill the doll. Use Kamui's: 2B, 41236X, gier, etc. Once you kill the doll, you can rush down liese really hard, and she really cant do anything about gier, really.

Every time you knock down liese, hit her doll. If it's dead, guard it or move the fight to a part of the stage where it's offscreen. Liese literally has to be on top of the doll to get it back, and there's some lag after getting the doll back into the case where she's really vulnerable too. Liese can't do anything/attacking with the doll if she's in a state where she's hitstunned or knocked down. She CAN attack with the doll while she's blocking or right after she techs, so watch out for that.

lol thanks. Ya that combo you mentioned is the one i'm using at the sec. Deals solid dmg so I might just keep it at the sec as it's pretty simple for about 35-40%.

Just have to look more at the homing bar of my opponent for when i want to punish with a guardcancel 421-AB.

Killing the doll would make sense as he kept hitting me with it's shit on wake up which was annoying.

It does not support widescreen.

better bust out those OG CRT's or you better have a scaler to fix lag on your HDTV, otherwise you wont be able to play this game at a optimal setting.

It's good to learn the system because a lot of the skills will carry over to AH2 (stuff like homing guage management, clashs, meter management, etc etc).

nah it aint like that at all
also the skills you learn from AH1 will carry over in ah2 pretty easily so you dont have to worry about that. matchups are pretty similar.

and yeah theres a tourney going on for this at mwc too

lol this is true for most games. The date on websites and the like is rarely the release date, but rather the "ship date." If you go and look at gamespot.com for example take any date they have and add a day and you'll have the release date.

After playing this game in Chinatown Fair and then playing part 2 and totally sucking up the machine with Petra ( ;_; ) last weekend, I feel like those addicts in major withdrawal. The Atlus forums are horrible, but mad people on gamefaqs are getting hype. I've noticed ads for this game up on there/gamestop lately too with links to a trailer. It's already gotten some pretty damn positive American press by IGN's review...even though very few of us (including me) ever pay much attention to review sites, a lot of people do.

as of now, the only regions with high concentration of players are east coast (new york, philly), texas and chicago... i hope this american release will be a opportunity for something great.

to newcomers: arcana heart is pretty much considered as the next big thing in 2d fighting games in japan (although the buzz has become a bit subdued in recent months due to stuff like sf4 and blazblue). also, don't be discouraged by the fact that ah2 is already in the arcades. the basic system is still in tact, and you can learn whole a lot for about half the cast in the first arcana heart. think of it as a transition from gggxx/ to ggxxac... minus the uber broken stuff.

in arcana heart 3, i hope they will bring back the bbc loop, plus new enhanced jiggle animation to go with it. the crowd will be going hyphy (shaking dem dreads and dancing on top of chariots turning tight ones :rofl:). i would be practice dem combos allll day long.

I can't wait for people to start hitting their sticks/themselves once they realize how hard she is...much like I have done many times already:bgrin: I swear, I'm one 2C away from being able to do Time Lilica's standard Time combo.....:sad: I'm afraid of trying the variants right now. Doing 3HC from 236A~c into successful 5B is hella hard, but it's fun trying.

1)Delay as in 6B? Or just delay the speed of the inputs? If it's either of those two(or a combination of both), I'll just figure out through more practice.

1. Well, you know how its either 1-1-4 or 1-5, well, for the 4 or the 5, i always make the 2nd kick a 6B and not a 5B. If i need to get closer or can delay more, i tend to make the third one 6B also, but i can usually get away with 5B FS 6B FS 5B FS 5B 2C. If you're gonna do 1-5, you NEED to make the second one 6B at LEAST, if the third one is 6B also, that can't hurt. Obviously, because you can use 6B, at the same spots you can delay a 5B for ease, but you cant delay the last one, you don't have to make it super fast, but you cant wait for them to fall nearly as far as they fall with the 2nd and third hits.
2) Also note that the further away you hit them with heel kick, the easier. If you watch my vids and i hit with a time ball mid screen, i tend to wait a little, and then do a heel kick cause it's easier to HC3. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=Y3RlgDnPMrA at about 7:10, I wait a little, then do the heel kick, though he was too far away for me to do a 5B running A 5B loop to bring him to the coner, so i should have heel kicked after the 5B, but yeah, thats how to hit the 5B, which is the important one cause no matter what, if you hit a 5B, you can hit a heel kick pretty much, lol)

Depending on how you set up your IAD loops, 3 reps is the most you can get per homing stock.

I guess I'm going to have to put in a solid several hours in training mode to get a feel for the cast and determine who I'll focus using to bring to University Pinball to compete.

Overall, I hope to get good, especially early with it's release, especially if this game picks up with the flood of new players getting into the game today / tomorrow when they pick up their copies.

lilica and maori both take a lot of practice to get good with, mainly due to the fact that they're both execution-heavy.

for beginners, the character learning curve would look something like this...

hard: lieselotte, lilica, maori
easy: heart, kamui, fiona, saki
normal: everybody else

also, maori isn't really about mix-ups (although she does have some options, depenging on what kind of situation she is in). as a basic strategy for maori, you want to keep the opponent away from her the entire match. she is definitely the strongest when the opponent is half ~ full screen away, when she can fill the screen with her sisters and rolling top. use 236a/b/c, 214a/b/c and j.623a/b/c as her primary zoning weapons, and occasionally use 421c and 22c when the spacing is right.

you want to avoiding fighting the opponent at close range as much as possible due to the fact that her normals are not very good in a face-to-face fight. most of them are rather slow and tend to lose in a poking match. when maori gets rushed down in the corner, you just gotta stay patient and look for an opening. people typically look for the right moment to forward guard cancel or backward guard cancel into 421a/b/c or 22a. 421a/b/c is typically a safer option; although it doesn't give maori an opportunity for a bbc loop like 22a would, it gives maori frame advantage on block, and allow her to safely reset her zoning game on hit. 5c is also a excellent move to be used as an anti-air (great clash frames active for a looong time + big hitbox).

maori is not very good air-to-air either. this is mainly due to the fact that her j.b and j.c are projectiles without a fixed hitbox. they float differently depending on what maori's momentum is, but neither are not good move to be used as a poke. however, air back dash j.c gives a decent-sized hitbox in front of maori, and can be used for zoning as well as running away in air (similar to dizzy's j.s in gg). j.a is the move of choice if you need to resort to zero-range fight in air, but it is slower and not as big compared to most characters' j.a. however, if her j.a does connect, you can j.a > j.a > jc > j.a > j.c > land > 5a > 5b > 623a and take it to the bbc loop from there. go for a air throw if you think you're in the correct range. maori has one of the best air throws in the game, as it allows her to directly go into her bbc loop. just 2gc > j.b > land > 5b or 2gc > land > 5b if you're closer to the ground.

with the exception to 5c, maori is horrible against clashes. this is due to the fact that a good bulk of her normals are projectiles (3a, 3b, 6b, 2c, j.b, j.c). and since they are considered projectiles, you cannot cancel them whenever clashes happen... which usually results in a free combo for the opponent. all the more reason to try to avoid face-to-face fight as much as possible.

so, summing up her basic game: zone the shit out of the opponent, and capitalize on big damage whenever she has the opportunity to land the bbc loop.

I can imagine people looking at me weird or something--due to subject or the look of the characters. I do like the matches I've watched on youtube, it definitely looks like a fun game to play. That looks right on the difficulty. I still think Loliblades is the hardest character to master. Maori and Liese require strategy and combo timing, but Lilica is much worst since you have to really time her Dash specials and beginners who pick her will mostly think WTF!

I always thought Mei Fang fit the Easy category, I see noobs who pick her at the Arcade win with her most of the time.

mei-fang may seem that way since her raw damage is really high, but i still think characters like heart and kamui are easier to pick up at basic levels.

i also personally think saki should be placed in 'normal' in overall difficulty use... but i put her in 'easy' since i was talking about beginners (when strats and finer character property nuances don't matter as much) and her basic stuff is among the easiest to pick up in the game. and we all love 214a+b. :rofl:

I'm definitely taking people's word that its a a good game in terms of competitive play. I just think it'll be weird buying it if I go through with it today. I can imagine people looking at me weird or something--due to subject or the look of the characters. I do like the matches I've watched on youtube, it definitely looks like a fun game to play. Hopefully I'll get the game and see for myself.

Yeah, thats basically the story of this game...I think pretty much we've gotten the word out (and people believe us for the most part) that this game is a pretty good competitive game and looks fun. But...the loli thing holding them back as always. A lot of people dont want to be seen playing that loli fighter. While some people (like HeartNana) definetely do embrace the gimmick of this game :rolleyes: (lol) me personally, i see nothing but hitboxes and potential, lol. But I hope it doesnt discourage you.

If anything, I think I can pretty much say that this game helped me get pussy due to it's mo-e thing goign on (on some real talk) so i dont think its all that bad. :rofl:

what else did I read in here.. oh yeah, Humbag Unless youre playing Yoriko or Fiona, thene you dont really need to worry about tiers that much..seriously...game has god balance because everyone has some kind of BS as usual.

yea, maori is ranked b- overall... but she also has the highest damage potential in the game. her full poison loop with 6 homing guages can deal over 27000-point damage (which is pretty much about 95% life) from full health. :rofl:

even fiona, who is pretty shitty compared to the rest of the game, has shenanigans of her own.

I can totally relate to this. I can't tell you how many times I've gone up to some chick and had to say "why yes I DO play a fighting game composed of all little girls, so why aren't you already all over my dilznik?" While Saki-chan still can't quite respond to me, I still hope I can one day free her from her glass prison and we can finally live the lives we are destined for...
