Since the other thread had a ton of posts and too much clutter, with the news announced, i figured it's best we create a new thread with more information at the beginning. Here we go:

What is Arcana Heart?
-Arcana Heart is a 2D fighting game created by Yuki. It was released in Japanese arcades December 22nd 2006.

What kind of characters are in Arcana Heart?
-It involves a cast of only females. For more information on the characters, check out this link here:

How do you play the game, and what are the notations while you're at it?
-Everything is done in the number notation. Here's what it is:

C = Strong
D = Homing Button

66 = Dash Forward
44 = Backdash
66 in the air = Air Dash Forward
44 in the air = Air Dash Backwards
7_8_9 = Jump
7_8_9 in the air = Double Jump
27_28_29 = Super Jump
866 = Instant Air Dash (also shortened to iad or IAD)
A+D = Throw (can usually be followed up into a combo, but has a somewhat large break window)
6A+D = Alternate throw (can't be followed up into a combo, but has a small break window)
A+D (at time of getting thrown) = Throw Break

There is air blocking, but certain moves cannot be blocked in the air.

What does the homing button do?
-It has 4 purposes:
1) Homing Cancel (abbreviated to HC), you can cancel your moves with the D button to create a Homing cancel (provided you use one homing bar of your homing gauge). This has a couple uses, you can use it to continue combo's by cancelling the recovery time of moves. You can also use it to turn a normally unsafe move into advantage by cancelling the recovery on it. These two are the main uses for homing cancels. As for the notation, if something is written HC6, then you homing cancel forward.
2) GC = Guard Cancel, while guarding, you can use the D button to cancel through and cancel the blockstun. Similar to Homing Cancels, GC6 is guard cancel forward, GC4 is guard cancel backwards. If you guard cancel forward (depending on your arcana choice, but we'll not get into that now), a red shield that clashes the opponents attacks pops up in front of you as you charge forward. If you guard cancel backwards, your character takes a jump back (meaning it'll go over lows) and then if you don't cancel the jump back in the air (only certain moves can be cancelled in this way), your character will automatically run forward after she's done with the jump back.
3) Movement. You can use the D button to do movements that you couldnt normally do. If you hold down the D button and your opponent is on the other side of the screen, you'll fly toward your opponent, literally. If you hold down forward and D, you'll dash along the ground, 4D will do a quick backdash, but like a guard cancel backwards, will send your characters with a forward dash after that.
4) Arcana usage - to be explained below

Can you explain the homing gauge a bit more in depth?
-There are two different effects of using a homing bar. If you use a homing cancel or a guard cancel, one bar of your homing gauge gets "X"ed out.
-If you use the D button to move or you tech off the ground or wall, it takes one bar of your homing gauge, but does not X it out.

How do i get my homing bars back then?
-There are 2 ways, one is to activate your arcana that you get once a round. This replinishes your homing gauge fully, and can only be done once a round.
-The only other way is time. If your homing bar is Xed out, then you have to wait for the X to disappear before your bar can begin to recover. Once the X disappears, your bar will begin to regenerate until it is full. Then it works on the next bar until your gauge is full. Now bars regenerate anytime you DONT use a homing cancel or guard cancel. If you're sitting there doing nothing, it'll recover (even if it doesnt look like it when the X bars are there, theyre indeed recovering). If you're hitting the opponent, if youre getting hit, your bar will recover. However, once you use a homing cancel if you're comboing the opponent, your bar will not recover for the duration of the combo.

What is an "Arcana"?
-An Arcana is something that you choose after you select your character. They're all "themed" (ex, fire, water, dark, death, etc) and each do different things, whether it be give a fireball to your character, or the ability to teleport or set out traps on the ground. There are three main parts to an arcana choice:
1) Moves. They each have their own movelist that's done with the D button. The stone one has a 41236D move thats a big stone punch. The leaf one has a 236D which is a vine hit forward. The fire one has fireballs. The lighting one has lightning strikes. etc. All specials are done with the D button. However, some arcana's have things that they give to the character that isn't a direct attack. An example is that Partineas, the Love arcana has a special ability that if you double jump in the air and then hold [8], you'll float down as opposed to falling at normal speed. This is just one such example.
2) Supers. In addition to regular attacks, they each have their own special super. It takes one bar for each of these as well, just like a regular super. All Supers are done with the D button.
3) Arcana summons. In Arcana activated mode, done with A+B+C, which acts as a burst and will get you out of MOST attacks (not during the middle of supers, but any other time, yes). During this time, your special bar depletes and during this time, each arcana has a different "effect" that is linked below. In addition, you can summon the actual arcana itself with 236A+B+C. This differs depending on which one you choose. Some of them are a one time grab and its either hit or miss, others are a giant attack on the screen, etc. They're all different. Using that uses up the rest of your special bar, whether you had 9 bars left or half of your last bar left, it will drain it and do the same damage.

Any other things i should know?
-As i mentioned earlier, if you do A+D to throw the opponent, you can follow up with a combo (for most characters) if you use a homing bar, but the break window is much larger than if you throw with A+D. Hence why when watching vids, you might see more players using 6 or 4A+D instead of the other one that does more damage.

-When you tech off the ground or off a wall, you are invulnerable to attacks, but very vulnerable to throws. However, after you tech, you can do special and super moves almost immediatly off the ground.
Moves that are unblockable in the air (thanks again to someAzNdude for the list, i just edited a couple things):
All 3Cs and 6Cs are air unblockable no matter which character is using it.
Certain characters have air unblockables other than 3/6C
Mei Fang, Yoriko, and Konoha has 6B
Kamui has 3B
Kira has 2B, 5B, 5C
Maori has 623A
Fiona has 623AB
Love Arcana 236A+B+C activation super

Whats this i hear about Arcana Heart and Arcana Heart Full? What's the difference?
-Arcana Heart Full is an update to Arcana Heart that was released around April. Because it was about $800, some arcade operators did not recieve it. The difference comes down to balance differences for the characters, and a training mode in the arcade version. There's a few graphical differences, such as the pictures of the characters under their names and the color of the clock, but not much else.

So which one is the console version going to be?
-The console version will be Arcana Heart Full, but will give the option to use the regular Arcana Heart versions of characters. Most likely, all tournaments will be run on Full only, though.

-Sure, Chinatown Fair in NYC has an Arcana Heart Full machine,
University Pinball in Philadelphia now has an Arcana Heart Full machine, Arcade Infinity in California has an Arcana Heart machine, and Planet Zero in Houston has an Arcana Heart Full machine. Also, lovegety in Toronto has a Regular Arcana Heart machine.

Tier List?
- Long story short, arcana is too hard to tier. Arcana's make a huge difference. However, it's widely agreed that in the original AH, that the 3 K's make the top three characters, Konoha, Kamui, Kira. For top tier Full, the Japanese players tend to think Lieselotte is top tier, but after that, it really gets fuzzy because any of the characters are really good. However its widely agreed that Fiona and Yoriko are at the bottom (theres almost no question about this one), but that doesn't necisarilly make them unplayable, or unable to win with them. They just take a bit more effort because their damage output is low for the risk involved with the character. Everyone else in between is just that - somewhere in between. Keep in mind the arcana selection also makes a huge difference to some characters. Having a top tier character but a bad arcana can lose to a lower tier character with a good arcana. I will say this though:
The game is balanced enough where you can play whatever character you want to and still win.
Those wondering who the top is so they can play them and win, its not that easy. Those wondering if their character is gonna be bottom tier, don't worry, you'll be fine with whoever you pick as long as they match how you play. So stop asking about tiers and just play who you want to. You'de be better off watching videos to see how characters play instead of looking at a small list that says which characters are better than which. =P

I cant speak for everyone, but I do appreciate all you guys hard work. I think no one was hardcore enough to care because there was literaly like 4 places you had to be to play it. A new game for consoles that's been in the arcades is kind of a big deal. Here's to hoping this makes it into evo next year.

I wish I could buy it :sad: Me and Deathscythe (before Arcana ran my pockets dry) were talking abotu chillin in for a board way back then. If I had the funds I would still buy it outright just cause it's one of my favorite games, and I prefer arcade waaaayyy over console. I'm gonna be fucking heated if this version is not arcade perfect/fucked up.

there better be a option of original/arranged music.
more colors/color edit mode would be pretty sweet.

I don'texpect there to be much if any new options, but I'm hoping Yuki doesn't fuck the port up royally...oh well..only a handful of ppl are gonna know if its arcade perfect or not. In the end I'll play regardless but it's like whatever.

Clear Sky, I kinda disagree. I'd rather have it NOT be AH2 and that the arcade release of that game ges pushed back until the spring or something at the very LEAST. Why? This game hasn't hit it's peak yet in Japan, people are STILL finding out new crap...and shit hasnt even been out for a year yet domestically (talking about JPN again.) Bwsides, I wan't a American scene for this game to develop!

Man, I'm so happy thinking abotu the potential comp I can get in NY.. (mostly xaq/zar/vic when hes not tired) but who knows. anyone could be a random killer cause this game is not difficult to get into. Now Rob, if either of us loses to anyone else at this point (when console drops) it'll suck... (except if its TX crew..) but hopefully it'll give ppl some kind of goal to reach for now. All I'm saying is, noone better beat you before I get my runback. ^_^

BTW, again, I'm sorry I could not get any footage for yall. I asked my friend if they would let me borrow their minidv cameras and they said no - mine got stolen, and vic's wasn't working. If yall remember I DID record a total of 5 Arcana Heart tourneys + Showdown Championships + FRX and mad mad casuals and put it all up on Google Video. its well over 10 hrs of footage. I'm just sorry I couldn't do the same for yall this time.

If anything when I get to Japan, I'll be sure to post about the Arcana scene up there...if someone wants to lend (cause I won't have the money to buy a new camera at this point obviously) me a camera for my use, I'm positive I will record hella Arcana footage for everyone (and other games as well cause I don't just play AH.) But yeah I'm disappointed that there was no footage either. :(

And Rob, you should link the old thread in the 1st post, just cause that thatrad was legendary. You should have waited until it got to 100k+ views to post this new one just cause, but whatever. :P

I'm so pumped that this is coming out on console! My only way to play the game would be to take a bus to NY, and then pay a bunch of money play it all day. And I can't afford to do that for a game that I have no idea how to play yet. I'll just go there and lose all my money. lol

Rob, give me Lilica's easiest / universal BnB. I want to see exactly what I'm getting myself into.
Furthest possible distance hitting with 2C:
HC6 5A 5B 236a~C 236B 236C 236B 236C 236A j.B j.BC
normal 2C distance:
HC6 5A 5B 214BA+C 5B 236a~C 236B 236C 236B 236C 236A j.B j.BC

And if you want to extend it, after 236C you have to immediately do HC2 and then buffer in your next 236a~C before you even land and then do it immediately. You can then do 4 heel kicks, so after you HC2 and do 236a~C, you do 236B 236C 236B 236C 236B 236C and after that you can again choose to use another homing cancel or do 236A j.B j.BC to finish.

In the corner, you can do things like:
2C HC6 5B 214BA+C 5B 214BA+C 5B 214BA+C 5B 214BA+C run forward a little AB 214BA+C 5B 236a~C 236A j.B j.BC

This is just one example because you can do do a 5B 214BA+C 5B run forward 5A 5B 214BA+C 5B run forward etc a few times before doing three 5B's into heel kick finisher.

For simplicity purposes, im gonna call:
214B~A+C (or any variation that gives the instant cancel) the "Flash Step" (You can also do it with 214A A+C if that makes it easier for you. Use whatever works the best)

but its not just combos, you're gonna end up using the Flash Step all the time when playing her. Example is this vid here:

Youve got to be ready to do a ton of inputs and not mess up with a single one for things to really go well.

And the air loops are the EASY part about Lilica. Things like hitting them in the air with like, j.A j.B and then doing 623A 236A 236A HC8 j.A 623A 236A 236C 236A+B (on third hit) HC5 (hold down D) j.B 623A 236A 236A HC8 623A 236A 236C is like, easy mode Lilica...

Also, for when you dont have bar, you should know how to do 5C into 236a~B 236C, or 2C into 623B 236A 236A 236A+B, etc.

Other combo starters:
5C 236a~B 236C. You can't get any more heel kicks after that, but you can land and do HC6 on the ground and do 5B into whatever you want, whether it be 5B 236a~C or 5B Flash Step 5B Flash Step 5B in the corner.

236A+B, after the first hit, HC2 or HC1 and then you can do 236a~C into her loop from that.

Accel Slide (214A/B/C or 236A/B/C) B 236C. You can do the accel slide into the low slide and then do that straight into 236C to start her loop from that.

For future purposes, i may abbreviate Flash Step to FS.

Clear Sky, I kinda disagree. I'd rather have it NOT be AH2 and that the arcade release of that game ges pushed back until the spring or something at the very LEAST. Why? This game hasn't hit it's peak yet in Japan, people are STILL finding out new crap...and shit hasnt even been out for a year yet domestically (talking about JPN again.) Bwsides, I wan't a American scene for this game to develop!

I don't know if that makes much of an impact in telling us how well the game is actually doing in Japan, but it must tell us something right useful right? I mean, how could the game drop down in it's ranking so far down, especially so when SBO is only two months away?? I'd expect the opposite to happen.

Having a console version as soon as possible would greatly help expand the North American scene, since it would give us more time to let the scene grow, which in turn would give us more of a chance for the game to be accepted as an officially sponsored EVO game in the future. Though I see your point for the Japanese scene. Less, new exciting things would be able to be discovered if Yuki presses on to release AH2 early, but honestly I don't mind in a selfish way because I would rather play the most recent version of AH ASAP, since I doubt that my arcade will get AHF, or even AH2, if that one is an upgrade as well. :I

rock works with fiona .. you can really scare your opponent if you are any good at building meter

Sabin, AH2 has to come out as soon as possible. Pushing it to next march means you have to wait about a year and half till the next SBO. Bad thing might occur... Yuki won't let that happen:) Well, it could be next summer, since it's the best time for a new fighting game to come out? And the heat usually will last for a year as long as it's going to be in SBO.

I can't really speak for VF, but I'm not surprised about your observation since I've heard about VF bombing in Japan for quite awhile. I've read the stories of no line ups in arcades for this game, and top players dropping the game because they think it's inferior.

And anyway...I think those rankings aren't even recent when they come out. That's just my GUESS. All I'll say is I wouldn't be surprised if that were true since the strategy guides for sure are old before the issue is made. And as for the points thing...sorry I have no clue. :sweat:

It's better for Japan if the game doesn't come out early from a competitive perspective, but if the popularity for this game is dying out, I think that an early AH2 release would build up hype for the game again, like Tianyuan said. As for our scene, I still say that it doesn't matter for us which version we get for the console version. If this game blows up really big in NA, the majority of players will be console players anyway...

Can any1 put a list together of what special properties you get from the different arcanas when you go into i think its called arcana mode? A+B+C like i know magic adds poison to your attacks and stone gives you super armor fire is +fire damage but i could never figure out like water or time or love not having access to the game

The ones i know:
Poison - Adds poison to the opp if they get hit
Fire - Adds a fire shield that hits the opponent if you use D in the air
Love - You can use 236236D as many times as you want without it wasting meter.
Lightning - You get clashing added to your D in the air dashes
Plant - Life regen
Earth - Super armor, but can't block
Wind - 4 jumps and 3 air dashes
Water - Stops chip damage
Time - Stops the round clock
Steel - Increases your offense and your defense by a LOT.

And no idea about Gier, if anything (thanks XAQshinor for the help)

Konoha doesnt really need wind to make her good. She's got the speed department down just fine, and she wants to be NEAR the opponent with a GC6, not push them back.

But double air dash and triple jump and fast drop could make her even more versatile and hard to hit.

Its good to try, heck, ive seen the goofiest character/arcana combinations that seem to work, so i say give it a shot.

Just keep in mind how much easier Gier, Niptra, and Lang Gong are to use for Konoha. Especially Gier.

Yeah you pretty much have it down for her normals, not much else cept use her 3C for air unblockable and charged 3C(with fire arcana) for grounded opponents on wake up, it got some nasty range...

i would advise that you never attempt 5C if you have no homing gauge..

keep in mind while you have good tools for footsies you can get baited extremely easily considering how long almost all of your normals stay out [the only safe thing she really has is 5A]

First combo requires too much meter and positioning to be truly that practical imo. Well it looks like it anyway. If I'm wrong someone correct me as I'm not a maori player.
2nd one is actually practical (well looks like it) but maori's staple combo isnt easy...in addition to all that exra stuff....definetely takes some serious training mode time.

Yeah, the first one is impossible to do. Too much meter involved should indicate that. And you have to throw out the super alone to start that up. I'm guessing that comboing into the super won't allow for a second one to hit.

I agree with you on this one, Chibi. Shit like that is what kills games for me. Probably the biggest reason I don't play MvC2 (That, and that fact that it's all lizard-brain-reaction) is because of stuff like that... but like you said, MvC2 infinites at least take less time.

Just because there are ways around it doesn't mean it should exist, even for hilarity reasons. Sure, the chances of this happening in real play may be kinda' low, but it should be 0.

Also, I finally realized what makes the game look so weird to me. Somebody else has probably said it in the infinite piles of pages this game has spawned, but I'm not reading all that. ;) It's the fact that there's no hit-pauses on air combos. You just float in this little arc. Your opponent makes a slight pause, but you drift straight through your strike. Weird, but not bad. =)

no, you just get randomly crossed up in this game due to the massive hitboxes, your character quite often can and will hit from behind them..like me getting hit by a lilica 3C when i pressed 5B and it clashed :looney:

Crossups are really ambiguous because of stuff like this and yeah you can crossup someone while theyre in the corner. It's almost like corners didnt exist for those iad mixups, you think youre safe but youre not really

Anyways, I was thinking about the matches I had in NYC two weeks ago and I felt as though I had some advice these people should hear.

Zae: Stop trying to use your arcana move in the air. What makes it worse is that you don't do anything to cover yourself and that you were always above me or close to me when you did it. When you do that, it makes for an easy dp into BS, taking away a good chunk of your health. It's worse if your using bubbles, because with gier theres at least a chance that it'll hit me when i try to dp you. If you want to use your arcana moves, do it high in the air, or far away from me in the air.

Also, your block string is okay, but you love to get baited into grab super. I was seriously waiting for you to start the string so I could GC grab super. When you that it isn't working, go for something else. Do blockstring HC grab, at worst you'll whiff but you won't get vampire'd either.

Makoto: With you, you kept doing the same thing that zaelar was doing and trying to call out lesbians either above me or right next to me. This is a dp usage just waiting to happen, so make sure your conscious of where you're positioned before trying any of that. You see how I couldn't get Ken with that BS because he spaced the hell out of each other.

Zar: Your lise is annoying as hell and you don't even play the game. Seriously play so we can get experience against a lise player. Derrick is okay but I can easily beat him after having my first three arcana matches for the day.

Ken: You made the best decision by countering my Yoriko with bubz. You kept IADing with Saki which was perfect for what I was looking for, dp of course. There isn't much else I can say, because I'm not a Maori player.

I'm not too sure on how much damage that'd do, and I can't remember the motions for Yoriko's crouching special normals, so those may be wrong as well. But yeah, think it'd work?

Has anyone confirmed if that poison loop is an infinite or not? Outside of bursting out of the damn thing, pretty much everytime I've seen it landed the other guy just outright dies from it.

It looks like the loop continues as long as Maori has homing meter.

Oh and about the wiki thing I'm sure ill be in a better mode to contribute as soon as I get to Japan. Ill actually be able to provide more info outside my limited experience (competition wise). I didn't feel like doing anything before because there was no console port..but now that there will be pol playing in the future I'm a little more motivated.

Btw I haven't played this game since rob left except for a few times against the cpu really. There's really no point in playing anyone in cf right now unless someone calls me out to practice specifically. I'm kinda burnt out on Chinatown at the moment and I don't feel like spending money to play the cpu. If someone wants to set up a session let me know though. Ken, ill probably throw down a 20 bill at some point if you don't have funds to just come to play me for a day or so hardcore just so I can get some practice to get to the level that I was at when rob was here. Probably within the last week of the month or something. At this point you're the only one sharp enough and has put enough of a time investment in the game to make me not play on autopilot. I'd extend the same offer to Andre but he seems to have lost his fire for the game...sad.

Kaneda that sucks. There's also a chance I might not make it to evo for obvious reasons. Hopefully I can pull through and make it though as ill be playing all games and I don't want all that beast training to go to waste.

Are you coming to NY before or after the console release? If you're coming before it and you're still buying the board being it with your supergun to NY if you actually feel like carrying a pcb on the plane lol, so you can get smashed in some private sessions.
