So, yeah, I just got a new cell phone. I got it unlocked through some sites...but really, though, I have no idea what unlocking a phone does it. I just read about it a while ago and decided to just do it.
Anyone care to explain?

it means that the software it had that tagged it only to a specific carrier has been removed so you can use it on any carrier's network and not only the one it was made for. So lets say it was a t mobile phone, now it can be used on att network or tmobile instead of just tmobile.
So now you can stick any carrier's sim card in and it should work as long as they use the same type of cell technology.

just makes it so you can take it to another carrier, like if it's unlocked from cingular it can be used under t-mobile, sprint, etc.

Ah, good stuff. Thanks for the info.
Also...the type of phone (Nokia 6020) doesn't have a memory card slot - it just has a slot for the SIM. Is it possible to get a SIM card that can hold more memory or would it be better to just buy another phone?

Buy another phone. If there is no slot for expandable memory, then memory cannot be expanded.

As far as i know, you can't get sims with more space. and you can only save contacts. If you are trying to do music or pics, you can't put that on the sim.
