It's called a Predictions Market, and analysts have been using them for years to predict the future (assuming a hypothesis, the market gets to buy stock on a proposed outcome. If the outcome comes true, the shareholders get paid, and if not, they get nothing. Stock value changes depending on how many people hold stock in the hypothesis). According to Popular Science, these are surprisingly accurate.
Anyway, they're running a fake one, with fake money (which is still supposed to be accurate) on their website, and here's the link.

Knowing SRK, one of the predictions will be:
"Will the PS3 lose the console war by 2009?"
Bet it.

They Mayans (it was the Mayans, right?) predicted it. Most of their predictions came out to be true, surprisingly.

Yes, it was the Mayans.
The exact date is Dec. 23, 2012 and people believe it because the Mayan calendar is only 12 seconds apart from the calendar that we actually use.

I call bullshit on the whole apocalypse situation. We would know about something that could potentially kill millions of people in one swoop(It woulod have to be REALLY FUCKING BIG). and also the term "End of the World" is very subjective one that has different meanings. Often times people would claim that an ancient civilizatuion predicted something when in fact it's a coincidence(often times a vague and shitty one).
The Mayan calander was incredibly accurate but you have to remember its not very hard to make an accurate calander from the perspective that all you really have to do is observe the stars and plot the seasons. I am far more impressed with the achievements of the Egyptians with their advancements in architecture and even how they built it.
The idea that an ancient civilization was capable of factoring in ALL the technological advacements that could potentially arrive by a certain date in time(that's hundereds of years in the future) is just so fucking retarded on so many levels of critical thinking its appaling.
You have to remember, they may have been good for their time but we are far more accurate then they could ever hope to be.
