FANSUBBERS IN PRISON

Convict 201: yo muffukka what you doing in the fucking penn, you kill some muffukas, did you rape some bitches? what what!!! NIKKA IMMA FUCK YOU UP if you on that bombing bullshit!!

Dattebayo member: Naw its not like that B-Dawg, we got rolled up on cause the feds found out we be putting English Words in Japanese Animation films licensed by the UNite.....

Convict 201: Shut the fuck up with that english in movies shit, i hate reading you pussy ass muffuka..... *bitch slaps him*

Dattebayo member: Owwww you hit me? is this what pain really feels like....

Convict 201: Nawww muffuka, you dont get to feel the pain until my dick gets hard so for now sit there and look pretty, i have a idea how about you fansub this web cam video of me fucking your ass....

Edit: Yeah the likelyhood of them losing their virginity to an actual woman is how likely they will be going to prison, i mean they get the same punishment as hackers pretty much, and they technically didnt even profit from what they were doing.

When asked to comment, group member Interacti said, "I've been told by my lawyer not to say anything because of the sensitive nature of legal matters however this has been a trying experience and I'm glad my new cell-mate "Spikes" has been there to comfort me."

Guys, apparently you don't know Dattebayo that well. Until I get some outside confirmation, I'm gonna say this is a joke.

Reading it, its almost 100% a joke.

Witness reactions varied including one Richard Sequoa who said, "I just can't believe something like this could happen at our convention." Another witness, a Judy Hibertson, said, "I'm glad. This is what they get for their constant trolling. It's just not funny!"

Update: July 23, 2007 - Good news, the arraignment was rescheduled on short notice for early this morning. Naturally the staff plead not guilty. It just got done and the staff was released on bail. Pre-trial will be in two weeks. When asked for comment interactii had this to say, "<~interactii> MY ass is kinda soar". The staff is very gracious for the support that we've received via the feedback and chat room.

Sore much? Isn't Naruto and Bleach now translated over by Funimation?

only parts of it..thats the rationale of these fansubbers..cuz most companies license it in sagas and parts...not generally in whole series...so they like to say well we're gonna only keep these chapters up til their translated then take it down..but its bt so its always up as long as theirs a seeder.

i personally don't care if a fansubber get sent to jail because most of them are scums... i've had to translate for fansubbers before and most of them were shitty people.

also... considering that fansubbing is technically illegal, they technically could be tossed in jails. i know most people rely on fansubbing to watch anime and read manga, but that's the simple truth.

i know i sound like a total dick for saying this, but i'm serious.

anime companies wont jail fansubbers cuz the backlash would be a serious one. anime companies have depended on fansubbers for years to tell wuts the popular anime property to get. Naruto only truly became the sucessor to the dbz throne because of fansubbers and was way more popular in america than japan even before it got licensed.

I mean unless the industry really feels fansubbers have gotten really rediculous then they will do something. but rarely do they take legal action...generally its the smaller anime companies who do that. anyways we'll just go back to irc like back in the day.

kinda off-topic: I'm torn when it comes to fansubs. On one hand, though illegal, they often raise awareness for shows that you may not otherwise hear of. On the other hand, they're riding on the back of somebody else's hard work, and they are deservedly illegal.

Good thing I'm a dub guy. Though admittedly, what's worse: a fan-sub or a fan-dub? Memories of Megaman X4 are suddenly returning.

RockBogart

Fan-dubs should be considered a crime against humanity. If it weren't for Fan-Subs I wouldn't have been able to finish Hokuto no Ken 1 and start on Hokuto no Ken 2. Its not like they are charging for the shit. Most people wouldnt know about Hajime no Ippo if werent for fansubs either. And dont forget Devil May Cry, even though the guy could do better.

someone's got issues

orka doesn't have issues. He's just stating the legality of the entire mess. I know that as I've grown up and finished college and all that jazz, I actually grew scruples as well. I don't use pirated software (or music or movies, etc.) if I can avoid it, anymore. I make my own money. I buy the things I want/need. Nobody is entitled to the things that are gray-legal just because they think they should be.

I get irritated when people ask for help using photoshop to crop an image, when they should be using GIMP, or when they ask their friends to burn 'em a copy of X game that was just imported from Japan. That crap happens on these very forums all the time. Developers and artists work a job to create things that people think they're entitled to for free. I'm not going on a one-man rampage against piracy, here. I just also am not going to bleed from my heart if some fansubber or torrent-site-owner or whatever happens to get pinched for it.

But this Dattebayo incident is most likely a joke, as was said.

Or they could *gasp* actually buy the real stuff. But yeah, I agree that the anime companies use fansubbing as a measuring stick for what's hot in the underground. It's pretty shitty, but what can you do?

I'm not really big on fansubs since I don't have the time to download or time to keep up with some of the crap that's coming out. But to those that do, more power to you.

It'd be nice if something like Captain Herlock got some buzz. Oh, wait.....that's a 70's classic. That stuff doesn't pass the bar in the new millenium. I hate America most of the time. :bluu:

someone's got issues

yea, i got issues.

i got issues with the fact that all fansubbers that i came in contact (although it was just over the net) were worthless dicks that i could care less about. i tried translating for subbing groups twice couple of summers ago, and i really regret doing it. fansubbers are usually:

1) some college dropouts that live in their parents' basements. being nagged by them online was annoying and gross.

2) they have next no idea about the japanese language (studying it for 4 years in college means shit), yet made weird demands and edits to the works i did. translating is by far the most effort-consuming part of subbing. the least they could do is listen to the person that knows what he's doing.

3) consequently, they're kind of people that believe american anime distributors are evil money mongers and that produce inferior quality translations... both of which are absolutely false. american anime dvd is fucking cheap as hell compared to what they cost in japan (you pretty much get twice as many episode for half the price for most tv series). and from my personal experience, although american distributors' translations have their flaws, they're almost certainly better than most fansubs out there. never challenge the professionals.

i'm not just blowing steam, either. i'm a native japanese speaker, i do japanese pr analysis and evaluation for fortune 100 companies as a day job, and i'm also a firm believer that you get what you pay for in life... so all my points above are justified.

and i hate naruto/bleach.

I definitely agree with this. In Japan a DVD costs about, what, $60 for 2 episodes. And you get little to no extras. And the boxsets are even more expensive.

My only gripe with the American industry is that they have some sort of hatred to 70's and 80's anime. There's a lot of good stuff from that era. Hell, maybe the greatest stuff came from that era(often considered the Golden Age of anime).

But yeah, I agree with what orka's talking about.

i think the hatred for 70's and 80's is because of this cartoon network generation that has risen. Who truly only got into anime circa 2000's due to dbz rise to god status. They werent around in the early 90's when we died for anything anime...darkages bitches. Gatchaman gets no mainstream love...such a dope series. Cartoon network has helped and hurt anime.
