View Full Version : Tired playing scrubs and wasting time?

Post here if you're better than most of kaillera
i get tired of people picking wrong SA's and shit and getting owned hard....its a waste of time.
a lot of people i played are good, but the majority are just random people who play the game cuz its new and are still learning it on kaillera
post here if you want someone that knows something about the game to play you. cuz im tired of random people joining my game and of them sucking hard.
also people who cry about chun/yun/ken. i dont use them but those people annoy me.

Il agree with you on the chun yun ken complaints, yes its pretty gay
but the random newbs help build the community.
Il take any challenge and get experience and gladly help people gain experience.
Also it also gives the opportunity to try new things in live action.
your just looking at it the wrong way.
hey you were a newb before and I bet somebody felt the same way towards you.

And also realize that not everybody has the same internet connection you do and we're playing for fun knowing everything responds sometimes 1 entire second after we press it. I know on good connection thats the case for me. If you really look down on people and are aware that you have more control of your character than they do, then something is wrong with you. Try to play people on LAN for a more genuine game. But still, only playing in person really matters. Playing on kaillera is just for kicks since the delay makes it like playing the game while wasted drunk.
EDIT: LOL, wow, this guy is just a 15 year old kid. I doubt he's ever competed in a tournament or played anybody worth a rats ass in real life instead of the internet anyway.
Its better to have someone play, than no one at all.

I find it pretty hard to get games period, usually when I go into a server people are already playing, and if someone creates a game I won't join unless their ping is less than 50 and they're set to excellent. So that eliminates a lot of people, and I don't like sitting around for a long time so I do a lot of server-hopping. In other words, I take what I can get whether they suck or not.
With a few exceptions, nobody has complained about characters or anything else when playing me. As long as the lag isn't that bad, and they try their best, I'll play anyone.
Edit: Oh yeah, not trying to sound boastful but when lesser players play me they're usually fascinated by the stuff I do. I'm glad because maybe once they see better players, they'll keep playing and try to improve. That would be impossible if they only played people at their own level or below. So I wouldn't say there's no point in playing the new guys.

I don't play on Kaillera, but it's pretty much the same situation on zbattle; it is full of a RIDICULOUS amount of noobs (for various games). I would say that 75% of the people I play in KI are scrubs/beginner, 10% are button mashers, 10% are standard/mediocre/average/decent, 3% are advanced, and 2% are pro. Actually, the number of pros has significantly gone down now. I'm pretty much the only pro KI player left on zb.. =/
Please, someone good in kof98/2000/2002...
In kof98 my only challenge is evil ray(Hong Kong) and mina. In kof2000, there is no challenge. And kof2002, only kofman and possibly kofdark. In kof I notice the majority of players that are bad pick the Fatal Fury team...and either mash random buttons, or just do things like random power geysers for 20 matches when it only hits once...Kof competition has gone to shit on kaillera.

It's hard to improve online when you have experience, especially when there are only a certain amount of good players that frequent kaillera.
For me, I am forced in this situation when everyone went to GW. What I am doing right now is getting the most of what I can from alex, q, and gouki on the less experienced.

Are you Emilll on Youtube? If so I watch your KOF vids.
Too bad you're east coast....
I used to play KOF'98 as religiously as I play 3S now. I'm still pretty ok in 98, but I haven't had live competition in years. I remember the KOF98 wars my friends and I had back in university, hecka fun.
I play 2000 w/o strikers, that is better IMO.
I don't play 02 though.
I only play at night, so that's like.... 4am your time, unfortunately.
The only server I play on is West Wonderland.
I remember you used to use autofire but you stopped I hope.
You fail...never used autofire.
And yes Endless, that's me...although I prefer kof2000 with the strikers since it seems to greatly increase the depth of the game...although I guess not using Joe striker is reasonable.

I use the ESDF keys for movement and the JKLIOP for punches and kicks. It's defintly much harder then using a pad or stick but you can get good at it with practice. For high level play of SF3S it's useless though. 360s are impossible to do consistently enough. Even 180s can miss sometimes.

Its crazy how low the player quality is on kaillera. I mean, the typical kaillera player is worse than the worst players that ever play at arcades. Its freaking boring. I wish there was a way of putting a mssage on your game like "good players only" or whatever. But then you'd probably not be able to play...
Edit: It helps to give yourself challenges like "only use roundhouse" or "Im only allowed to win by time over".

It's just a thought, but if you're not finding adequate competition in your game of choice why not play a game you're less skilled at? You might have to consider the possibility that your mad rude skillz in game X are too much for mere mortals, and that you're just THAT damn good.
Another solution might be to act as a mentor/teacher for newer/scrubby players. You'd probably see some people continue their scrubby ways and others grow. I think some of the skill imbalance on kaillera has to do with the community not being all that friendly. I've been lucky in that sense. I mostly play Last Blade 2, and most of the better players are reasonably polite and happy to help newer players learn the game. The times I've tried playing Alpha 3 it was n00b this and scrub that....

I remember an instance in the lobby where someone requested "I want to play a good player at 3S"
I pretty much owned him.
Back in the day, another guy in KOF2000 wanted to play a good person, and I OCVed him. He asked if I was from Hong Kong
I never say I am good or bad because of expectations to people. I say I am average because I compare myself to TRUE experts at the game, which I am DEFINITELY NOT.
I do get a lot of people surprised that I play on keyboard though.

Eh, usually you can tell someone who knows what they are doing but are getting messed over with lag, than some a lot of people who are just plan bad.
Like people who jump the entire round regardless of what you are doing, or full screen supers, etc.

It's not that hard if you've played them for a while on it.
Me, I never really played a 2D fighter on console (mostly because capcom kisses sony's ass so nintendo can't get any love) so keyb was the next best thing.

I'd like to know just who the hell that was bitching me out for picking SA1 Ken.
This -same- person ALSO had problems with pretty much everything I did, including A) trying to call Cr.Forward -> Hadoken 'random', and B) saying HKs were 'worthless'. Of course, I should probably have just stood there all round after that, as that's what he'd pretty much expect. Never mind the fact he was picking Yun and spamming Genei patterns all over.
Just because I don't follow the established trends doesn't mean I "suck".
Personally, I don't use Supers too often, and when I do, I want it to count. Reppa gets 5.6 EXs on the button, and that difference to Shippu's 6 (on the nose) is made up with a single Cr.Forward->HK (and more, if you want to get picky).
Now, for losing 7% the EX ability (at full stock), I -GAIN- roughly as much in SA damage.
If that isn't balanced enough, I don't know what is.
Now that I've made my points as to why SA1 is viable, someone counter as to what makes SA3 'the only' SA to use.

Reppa sucks. His ex's aren't needed that much unless you like jumping with an ex tatsu or low forward ex hadou which can be punished if used incorrectly. The super does not pay up to how much meter is required for it. Offline, SA3 is too much of a threat compared to SA1. If he had hadou's like RYU then you'd have a good point.
No you did, you said you were not going to use it again, which is good of course. It was quite a while ago so its ok if you don't remember. Hope to play you soon!
Ok, I'll play your little game...just once. Let's see...
I remember fighting flotiball about a year ago, and he was accusing me of cheating even though the auto-fire detector kept going off for him. Mind you, he was getting ocved every match, and he insisted that the detector was broken and that I was the one cheating. Then he dropped from the game after the 15th OCV, left the server, changed his name (I was admin so I already knew it was the same guy under a new name) and joined my game again.
Not nice, right? Stop trolling.

Just simply not as many ways to combo into it. Can you do c.MK from the farthest possible range and go into SA1? Nope. SA3? Yes. Ken's ground game is so much stronger because of that. You can't even connect c.MP from outside sweep range and expect it to connect. UOH to SA1? Only if you're right next to them. SA1 doesn't even do much more damage than SA3. Like SA3 does nearly the same damage.
I mean no one can tell you what super art to choose or create unwritten rules on you...it's just 3 is clearly better. SA1 doesn't really give you anything new to use. It's just a pretty lookin super.

Blunt, but a decent bit of information. Personally, I find the EX Tatsu on the ground to be a nice little surprise tactic outside of a combo but close in, and when comboed, it acts as a 4th strength level from what I can see.

Thank you, Jin. This is the kind of intelligent, well thought-out post I was looking for. I found it interesting to note that when fighting this pretty bad 'let's only use one button' Chun Li, the times I did pick SA1, I managed to lose (somehow managing to lose the ability to parry the last SA2 hit didn't help, either...).
Edit: I forgot to mention that Buu also makes another good point about damage to Super Meter ratio. While it's true that Reppa does just slightly more damage, that's completely offset by the fact it need 32 more SA gauge points (112 to Shippu's 80, for totals of 224 and 240 for max stocks) (for reference, an EX costs 40 points, and whiffing a Strong/Forward gives you 2). Since this game's all about the numbers, I see now why SA3 is his best, and am starting to switch over to it.

No, but I"m sure he doesn't want to use SA3 just because he's different, he's using it for his strats and that's ok. I don't see him anywhere saying he does it to be "special" or anything. I don't know why you're on his case in the first place.

In my area, there has been one 3S machine that I know of in the past seven years, it was over two hours from my house, nobody used it, and I think they got rid of it recently. How I'm supposed to be "good" with nobody but a few Kaillera people to play I don't know.

I've been playing Tekken,VF5, CVS2, and MVC2 so much yesterday was the first time I touched 3s. I think you'd have a better chance catching me at a tourney than online  Now I'm not taking nothing away from Dimmu but I seen him take a couple away from Eric Lee in a Ken vs Ryu match at July's C3 (mostly due to Hella Random setups that only I see coming a mile away) but I'll definitely set it up for you two to play each other this month. Actually you two have played before IRL and you won, you two I guess jus didn't bother to introduce yourselves . Whenever I catch you on I'll hit u up, definitely.
Well, thats casual. Why not mention the time we were at Corey's house and you went 8-7 against me Makoto vs Akuma, that was casual too? And you know you do as much random stuff as I do. But, you admit that too. Just maybe not on shoryuken, heh. Not to mention I just started playing this game February this year. How long have you guys been playing?

i started playing SERIOUSLY around when this game came out online. i always got spun up and didnt bother to realize what the reason was or what i was doing wrong before. being random to mix it up isnt bad, but excessive randomness isnt good.

Except for a few times I'm always there hella early so if you are Dimmu will probably be riding with us again so we gotta set up a good FT5 between you 2. Should be fun to watch.
But back on topic of the original post, I don't consider anyone a scrub, but a vessel of potential. I'm definitely not gonna downplay anyone trying to learn. I'm still learning the game myself and still do things people shake their head at. And you know I get alot of criticism for my pad, lol. But I don't think I'm wasting anyone's time by playing someone better than me (catch my drift). You're not wasting time if you motivate someone to get better. I remember my first 3s tourney about 9 months ago and finished next to last (thanks to Justin Wong and PVFP...they prolly dont remember) but I learned from scrubbin it and I consider myself to be half decent now and still learning. So everyone spend some time wit da noobs and help them learn the game and boost the scene. Even if it is online.
Dimmu Edit: I started playing SERIOUSLY in November  That's a LOOOOOONG time away from Feb 07 huh? Anyway you totally missed the point, and Makoto+Random= MAKOTO PLAYERS  There are so many times you can do hurrican kicks without someone catching on. Remember that.

See, thats what Tornado said. We play each other all the time so of course we're gonna say stuff about each other and keep out other stuff. He didn't tell you how random he admits he is. Saying he doesn't even know what he's gonna do next. Oh, and when he beat me 8-7 Makoto vs Akuma, I was playing Akuma for about 2 weeks by that time. He's telling you he sees my random stuff from a mile away, don't think I start seeing your random stuff by now and kara-kusa setups Anthony? Heh, its all good, I take it as a compliment. About 4-5 months ago when we used to go to Robin's, Anthony never talked trash about me at all before cuz I didn't know much about the game and I only played Ryu. So, I take it as a compliment he talks now and gets REALLY into it sometimes when he wants me to lose.

All in the name of competition. But you guys around here keep me on my toes though. So much comp now and so many games. Your post right there lets me know I'm doing my job one person at a time
Mags, as far as MVC2 goes we'll definitely get some games in soon. I've been building up pretty well in that game and now run wit Cable/Storm/CapComm. Pretty solid Defense, but I'm working on my Offense now and troubling matchups. I think this team could be a good Thrax counter but we shall see.

the mainstream teams compliment characters more than the unorthodox ones, but use whatever fits you best to start out. ill definitely be sure to show u a couple of strats and stuff, because once you got the combos and such down, ur 80% there. just execution to be added of course in gameplay. btw you play on pad or stick? i think it would be best to start on stick.
lol i played dimmu just now and lost in the beginning, lost more in the beginnin but adjusted to lan more towards the end and got it going some. its just 2 different situations, excellent+fakep2p = delay but less lag, lan=more lag spikes (random) less delay. oh well in person theres none of that so we'll see.

In total, it was about 15-6 me, right? you lost about 7-1 in the beginning. Then it was like about 8-5. You do admit that? But yeah, nothing like the real thing. I've always said myself, you need perfect control to really play 3rd strike. Nobody complains as much about delay as me. So, we'll play each other again someday face to face. It was fun.
How long ago was C3? like 7-28 or something? Thats a whole month. Don't you know how much better I get in one month Anthony? I was a whole different player in that 2 months we didn't go to Robin's house right? By December, I'm gonna be Anthony's daddy.

Now that I've made my points as to why SA1 is viable, someone counter as to what makes SA3 'the only' SA to use.
first off, it was me.
2nd off... you were doing CROUCHING hk right in my face... if that is blocked you eat c.lk > dash punch which gives yun momentum, shotos can sweep you right back or do c.mk/lk > jab uppercut and many other characters can go into beefy combos.
3rd off...doing c.mk> hadoken = not safe. I can dash punch you if the hadoken is blocked, and many other people can do things to punish it.
4th... shippu has so many ways to be landed unlike SA1. You can get a far c.mp/mk/uoh to actually be HIT CONFIRMED into the shippu unlike sa1 where you can't wait for the animation to nearly be over because you will either be pushed too far back for the beef of the SA to connect or you will simply give them enough time to start blocking. shippu can also be combod into after c.lk>c.lp>c. lk, c.lk x 3 (crouching opponent), c.lk x 2. You also have the option of b+mk on crouching opponents as well as the mp>hp chain. All of these things give you a superior ground game. EXing with ken is pretty pointless unless its is the occasional air EX hurri or EX fireball. You may get 7% more dmg but is that 7% more damage worth losing 1/2 of the reason ken is so scary on the ground?
I find it disrespectful that you are complaining that i was attempting to help you understand things better and figure out that things you were doing were not safe and could potentially lead to either a momentum change or a huge chunk of your life getting eaten. If you want to do things your way so be it, but you don't have to take it out on me for attempting to enlighten you as to the fatal mistakes you were making in your game.
I'm sorry if i sounded like an asshole while playing telling you these things, i'm just sick of playing scrubs online all the time which does nothing to help me get better. You can't play mind games with people who don't understand the game.

Yes, but you're not supposed to. Part of being a good player means learning how to fight people who're very random and don't pay attention to anything you're doing. Sometimes what's even more dangerous is people who're random and have lousy execution so it's impossible to bait anything from them. Like I'll try to bait a wake-up DP/super from some people and they'll wake up and do c. LP or something, and when I walk forward, I eat an empty super. I can't tell half the time whether they're whiffing normals and I should move in or if they're trying to super or something and just screwing it up, so I just end up playing it safe around people like that.
It's stuff like that you learn to watch out for. I'm very careful with how I play whenever I'm fighting someone new. I scout them out for a match or two, before I figure out how I need to play them. If I see that they don't know how to counter/parry drills, you better believe I'll drill the hell out of them. If they're reversal happy, I won't attack much on wake-up, etc.
You did bitch a lot when we were playing though man. Every time you lost a round/match, you had something to say about it.
2nd off... you were doing CROUCHING hk right in my face... if that is blocked you eat c.lk > dash punch which gives yun momentum, shotos can sweep you right back or do c.mk/lk > jab uppercut and many other characters can go into beefy combos.
3rd off...doing c.mk> hadoken = not safe. I can dash punch you if the hadoken is blocked, and many other people can do things to punish it.
That's why you show them why it's not safe. You don't talk about it. You know how I show people shoto sweeps aren't safe? By reversal supering every time they do one. If lag or something else is stopping you from doing this and it's pissing you off, then maybe you shouldn't be playing online or maybe you need to not take it so seriously.
There's a reason why I don't do online tournaments.

It's hard to tell from the posts, but were you winning or not? It's one thing if you're punishing everything and winning and then trying to help someone improve (although you really should know the other person and them be okay with it) but it's another thing to talk as if you're the better player when you're losing. If you're losing you have no right to tell the other person what to do.
This is one of the absolute dumbest things about the internet. First off, it's laggy and delayed no matter how good the netcode is compared to offline play. Secondly, people all somehow grow balls on the internet. A rule of thumb should be if you aren't going to say it if you're face to face with someone don't say it online.
The best way to level up your competition isn't to tell them uninvited things. It's better to just play the same person repeatedly and THEN answer questions if they ask. Chances are if you keep beating them they will begin to adopt your strategies. After I moved out to the WC I needed people to play, so I played this guy in KOF 98 pretty much every night for several hours for a month. After that month his play I think improved considerably, and now we go back and forth. When we first started I'd just streak to 10 and more repeatedly and pretty easily. Now I think the most I can get is 6, and he can get those on me too.

First point: Hard Kick? What the hell? I know WAY better than to try blindly sweeping with a shoto. The recovery is crap, and even in lag, that's a free Cr.MK->Shippu (meter permitting) when someone tries that on me. You must be confusing me with someone else here, or you misread the original post. IMO, the latter is much more likely.
Second point: The MK->FB issue. 'If it's blocked', being the key phrase. Honestly, what good does simply saying 'this can happen' do if they don't see it for themselves? DO it and then after it costs a couple matches, THEN say something. That, IMO, is the best way for anyone to learn, and how I've done things when facing shotos that do like to throw sweeps in my face, or a Chun that abuses SBKs. I should point out that yes, I know there are times that it can be punished, even on hit, and when I'm facing those characters, I don't do that.
On the other hand, I noticed when I tried to switch my followup from FBs to Hurricanes, you had something to say about that, too.
Just what, then, was I supposed to do, if you'd already read me the riot act for pretty much everything I did try? Hell, I bet if I just stood there, you'd have a reason to bitch then, too.
Third point: I've already been convinced of Shippu's effectiveness earlier in the thread. This is now moot.
I don't have a problem with your finding the one biggest fault with someone's game and enlightening them on it, but please don't tell them that "everything you do is wrong". That there is exactly how it sounded to me, which explains the annoyed tone in my post.
As for the 'spamming Genei pattern' part, I was referring to having been blocking during the startup, and also blocking shoulder after shoulder after shoulder. i guess next time I'll know what I'm gonna do when that starts....

I use the ESDF keys for movement and the JKLIOP for punches and kicks. It's defintly much harder then using a pad or stick but you can get good at it with practice. For high level play of SF3S it's useless though. 360s are impossible to do consistently enough. Even 180s can miss sometimes.

i'll admit i'm pretty scrubtastic, but i appreciate all the advice i've been given from good players on the wonderland server. i still have a lot to learn, but i've improved a huge deal since i first started about 4 months ago because of their tips and stuff.
almost everyone i've played is way cool, but people who think they're the shit and act like assholes suck. a simple "ggs, but i wanna get matches in with other people" or something like that would be fine, and you'd still be cool in my book. but beating me 8 times in a row, taunting, then abruptly leaving is lame.
