Yeps, the rank whoring is pretty bad most of the time. Infact the whole game online has been quite a bad experience for me so far. What with all the getting kicked as soon as I join a room, or getting kicked for winning and the damn internet newbies that think its fun having a mainly British room with an Australian in the mix (damn lag, no offence) I just wish there was a proper option to have 1on1 games. Im really itching to get some good games going but it seems impossible playing against randoms. I havent even found a good player online yet, just laggy games and Lilli whores.

When are you usually on? Any chance of you being on over the weekend? Ive been online every other day in the evenings but havent seen you or DS online as yet. And who are you using? Im trying to learn Kazuya but his bnb's are quite tricky online. I wont give up until those DEWGF juggles are butter lol. I mess with Jin, Law, Hwoarang and Bryan to, but mainly choose Kaz.

Why is it that top 10 players are pussies? Scared to lose to a 1st Dan? Rank Whores? Or just assholes? Going into a room made for 5 and there are only 3 players and when I join, I always get kicked. If you want a room of 3, make a room of 3. It is this type of asshole behaviour that makes me think why bother with online. You get people who just want to play the game and then those that take their rank too seriously. :arazz:

Trust me, rank means nothing in T5 DRO. That game is too unstable online to really be about ripping your hair out in rage. And as for the top 10, most of them aren't Rank Whores, they're just that good. Now Mr. Snake, he uses lag tactics and does the same moves with Lili, and once you beat him, he either kicks you or leave the room that he doesn't own. You all need to avoid him at all cost.

Well, a lot of the top 50 players are rank whores. I played Dyse (rank 21) and beat him with my Feng and he got mad and left, lol. DR online has lag, just as any game online does and that's not good for fighting games. Even the slightest lag (you will always have lag online) can change a whole match. Anyway, add me people, seriously...

Yeah, same here. This game is great and exciting when there's little to no lag but I'm coming across too many people that lag and it's really making me not play this game as much.

the game it self is the shit, online is a diffrent story. the connection is decent when it wants to and other times it just sucks ass, suspect to always mess up your combos that you always hit 100%.

Yeah, I started today. It's not too bad online. I was just missing the second d/f 1,2 after the initial d/f 1,2 with Bruce online. I usually hit it in arcades and offline. =(

I forget if I have you on my list, if not, then send me an invite and we'll play some time. I actually want to start taking Tekken seriously now(after playing since T1).

Getting out of throws online is kind of a bugger...I just mash the punch buttons and hope I get lucky...don't even bother with long or complicated juggles. I miss the BnB combos with Asuka most of the time online and then hit them nearly all the time offline.

Anywho username is shdwtorn but since I'm practicing for a tourney and DRO screws with timing, I won't be accepting invites until Sunday and usually late (11 PM MST)

The trick to entering credit card info is that everything has to exactly match your credit card statement.
I know there are adapters that let you plug PS2 controllers and sticks into PS3, but I'm not sure about PS1. Strangely enough, an adapter my friend used didn't register left on the d-pad for some reason.
If you can find it, the Hori Fighting Stick 3 for PS3 works pretty well for me. Well, latency kills my game, so it makes it feel like the stick doesn't work sometimes. But, as soon as I go back to single player to make sure, I realize it's just lag.

I think my stick has a ps1 controller in it and it works great with my converter. The nice, cheap pelican converter at gamestop is amazing considering the fact that it's $15.

I only use a stick for 2D fighters but not 3D fighters. Hori sticks are high quality and are recommended; I use a Hori Tekken 5 10th Anniversary stick and it's great.

I use a stick on all of my fighting games.

Personally, I hate Hori sticks. I'm just not a fan of the button layout, and you can club a baby seal with the damn thing. However, if you do not feel like going all out and getting a custom stick made, then a Hori would probably be a good call.

I would instead opt for a psx/ps2 stick and a converter, but that's just me. Converters are nice and cheap now, it might be a better call so you can still play the ps2 games and ps3 games (all two of them).

lol I have 4 of those...But I use the hori2 ps3 arcade stick...Just played DR Online last night...lost the first 2 matches due to not understanding the lag...but I haven't lost since ;)

The key is to just do the combo based on your memorized timing, not what you see, and it has worked for me...

BTW, I'm Vidness online...I may be a 'beginner', but don't let that ranking fool you...

How about we all get together for a private SRK room on Sundays in the evening? Hopefully, Sunday isn't a work day for anyone and we can all get some good games in. I don't like joining big rooms either but it'd be cool to see how we all play and I've had a lot of near lag free games with people here.

It's best you play without wireless...because that can easily cause major lag. If you can be directly connected like via an ethernet cord, it's for the best.

Yeah, wireless doesn't really help. I think you experience lag even under the most incredible conditions. It's tiny, but it can still affect people who use things like just frame attacks and throw breaks. I really should get a long ethernet cable...

Thats pretty much the reason that throwing online is frowned upon in the TZ community.

Usually when red bars come up, we would start jumping in the air, lay on the ground, or something else besides attack you until the bars go back up. Now if someone's attacking you(or throwing you online at any time and don't walk up to let you get your throw back) then all bets are off lol.

Some tips to help with lag:

-Try to connect directly to the modem as much as possible. Then you don't have to worry about ports and router interference.
-Make sure you set your ports if you are playing on the router, and turn on your DMZ.(click this link (http://sdtekken.com/t5dr/online/setup-guide/) to get some help with that.)
-Turn off Media Server in your networking options.
-Try REALLY HARD not to have international people in your room. They tend to cause lag spikes when they come in, so don't be afraid to kick someone out if they're ruining your fun lol.
-Make sure your modem is optimized for your internet provider. My D-Link modem sucked with Comcast High Speed until I got a firmware upgrade from their site. If you're having connection problems consistently, that would be the first place I would look.
-If you got the money, see if you can up the bandwith with your provider. Wouldn't hurt.

i've got a pretty decent 45-50% combo from any launcher, works pretty much like a bnb

u/f 3 or d/f2 , d/f+2, d/f+1, 1, 2, f+2, f+2+1
then theres the variations from d+3+4/ u/f+3+4, 3+4

i'd like to give online a shot, i've seen good results from private rooms, and seen some pretty intresting matches from watching others

Been playing all day yesterday and was doing really good and now I'm not doing that great. Once I started getting into the higher ranks the abuse of moves just kept getting worse.

Whats funny is that I used to hate 3d fighting games. Barely learning Tekken right now but the game is pretty damn fun. Just need to learn how to block different character's shit. Still learning. :sweat:

Whats funny is that I used to hate 3d fighting games. Barely learning Tekken right now but the game is pretty damn fun. Just need to learn how to block different character's shit. Still learning. :sweat:

Xiaoyu is the most versatile character in tekken. She's not top tier by any means, but there's a lot of different ways to play her. You can try to be annoying and just poke all day with safely with her...damage output is little but it adds up, and this sets up her throwing game and mixups. Or you could go for big hits such as xmts, 1+2 into 4~3, db+1. Her evasion game is one of the best, although it pales in comparison to tekken 3, tag, or even tekken 4 xiaoyu. Triple Sidesteps aren't as good anymore, you might as well sidestep cancel or sidewalk.

Like any character, just learn her combos first, then learn her best moves and pokes. She is my main offline although I rarely play her either. BTW, she is terrible online but ss+3 is like impossible to block online so that's a plus i suppose.

Lilis aren't a problem for me. Let them do their flips and I'll just b3,3 with Eddie and take care of them. Asuka and King players annoy me the most I think. You want to low parry those dumb Asukas that use the stupid jab then low kick shit. Too bad you can't low parry them because DR:Online is laggy. It's very annoying playing online. King annoys me a lot online because everyone uses the same moves and just keeps attacking. Therefore, I just have to dumb myself down to beat them (AKA using launchers constantly) and counter hits. Add me though people. The people that have added me so far never seem to be on when I am. I'm usually on between 9-12 central time on random weeknights. I'm a very busy person though, but add me anyway so you have some competition. Not to mention, I don't abuse lag.

Offline, I just tested it and uf+4 interrupts the cartwheel between the first and second hits, basically you can throw it out after blocking the first, (hopefully it doesn't lag and the move comes out) If they do only one flip, or if you block both flips, you should still be able hit them afterwards if they tried a d+1 or any low hit due to the crush system. If they are still back turned you get 2,1,1 followup, if they are frontwards when they are launched you get a full combo.

I'm also going to try hitting them with d+4,4,4,4 (online tactic FTW) after cartwheels.

also blocked uf+3 with lili gives lee free 1,2,4.

If you used that in real life, I would easily low parry that crap. It's not a good move. I will be online today in the afternoon if anyone wants to play. Lee's d+4,4,4,4 online is nothing compared to eddy's stuff online. Yes offline both would get parried instantly, but I honestly have no shame in doing that to cartwheel lili players. Plus, in my post, I mentioned it as a BT tactic, not when the other person is facing forward. Hopefully they'll eat all of them from behind.

I'm not trying to be a dick Ephidel, but the way you played was the most abusive lag tactics I have ever seen. I still won, but I really don't care about winning. I just want to get games in with people who don't use lag tactics. I know you are learning, but that doesn't mean you should abuse the living shit out of the lag. Do you play locally? You should have someone teach you the right way to play. If you went to a tournament and used the jab, low kick spin with Asuka like you repeatedly did to me, you would get low parried and launched. Also, if you did the flipping with Lili at a tournament, you would get juggled in the middle of one of your flips. This is why I fucking hate DR Online. I get fucking frustrated that everyone abuses lag and I can't ever find anyone to get good games in with. Basically, everyone whores out Paul more than anyone and uses major lag tactics. He is the most annoying fucker online. People use King, Paul, Lili, and Asuka more online than anyone. Not to mention it's fucking annoying that the lag doesn't really allow you to low parry efficiently. Anyway, this wasn't meant to be mean Ephidel, but it was really annoying playing against you since you kept doing the same thing over and over again while using your lag tactics to do it. I had to keep launching and pretty much nothing else because you kept attacking. Does anyone other than me and Cyclone not abuse the hell out of lag? I play online like I would play offline, unless someone abuses lag and forces me to change tactics.(other than giving up on low parries)

Naw man it's all good, I don't intentionally abuse lag but that's the way I fight online or not. Thing is, I still get low parried online ALL the time haha...you sure I kept doing low spin kick cuz I don't remember abusing it. Mixups yeah, but I've gotten better not throwing that shit out randomly because it spells death. (low spin kick)

And yeah, I'm still learning so I hope you can cut me some slack man. Lag is part of online play, and I know my record would be pretty bad offline. That's why I practice to become better - I've been in matches where the screen doesn't even move for 5 secs, messing up combos and juggles. Now THAT's true lag my friend...like pressing foward and the character doesn't move. Then a split second later he or she does...maybe I should quit this game. I was never good to begin with...

It is. Most characters has a side that their most dominant on. Usually it's their left but sometimes it's their right, so you have to step accordingly. Some characters have moves that track both ways so you need to predict these attacks to step right.

Marduk: Weak vs SSL. His circular attacks are pretty slow but mid.

ephidel: you should keep playing and not be discouraged. Online is not for serious play, it's for fun and to get better if you're not familiar with the game. Hopefully we'll play sometime, and if it doesn't lag too much, you can see what tactics are good and what aren't so good since I play multiple characters or mokujin.

shinkuur: Yeah thanks for the info. I always knew ewgf had to be ssl, but I guess since sidewalk is good in tekken 5, it can be SSR'ed or people have told me to go right when it's always been left. I disagree with Julia though I think she is weak against ssl not ssr (probably both)

You can SSR against EWGF but you've got to be very correct about timing.

I figured it was either one of the two, but I could never remember right. Which is probably why I keep my distance from Mishimas, or jab them alot up close lol.

evilj: Julia is pretty weak on both sides, but the reason people SSR against her is because her elbow is strong against SSL from max distance. You'd have to use f,F+1 for the elbow to track SSR a little. At jab range though, which way you SS doesn't matter nearly as much.

ephidel & cable: To add what I said earlier, Cable I think most people who use lag tactics don't really know any better that's why they use it. I'm under the assumption that most people on srk don't care too much about wins, they just want to get better, so if their lag tactics stop working, they will try something else...unlike some players who have 2000 wins and once their tactic stops working, they go to a different room and find different people to abuse it on.

Every character (some more than others) have gimmicks and shenanigans offline that are powered up online, such as lili's cartwheels. Lili's cartwheels are actually a pretty decent offline tactic (otherwise they wouldn't work so well online), especially when you're desperate. It can be a good move on oki, and one of those random good moves to throw out when let's say you have 10 percent health left, and your opponent has more than 50 percent.

I've yet to complain about paul because I can usually beat pauls online and I'll just pick paul myself or heihachi. I'm not too sure what people are complaining about, his scrub mixups? (d+1,2/d+1,4,2, qcb+3,2,1/2 mixups?) His deathfist qcf+2 (the power punch) is still his main move offline, so no point in complaining about that.

As far as asuka, well i wouldn't really call her low sweeps gimmicks or shenanigans, more like scrub tactics because it isn't really that good in the first place. If you can't parry it you can just block it. It's not as bad as eddy's shit because with his shit, if you don't parry it, you can't followup or start attacking after blocking it cause it can go on forever.

I guess I don't mind using lag tactics myself to win, or just going for launchers forever.

I got a good non lag abusing Lili. It's just hard, ironically enough, to do her non scrubby shit in the context of lag. Her juggles have relatively small windows, but they go on FOREVER it seems.

There's not much to a good lili, you can have a bunch of oki setups where you go for less damage on the juggle to go for more damage on the ground...but in the end you have to land the launcher first...and I think you can just go for her bread and butter to ensure max damage.

df+1, df+1, 1,2 f+2, f+1+2
b+2,1, 2, d+2,2,3

b+2,1, b+2,1, d+2,2 (wall carry)

use f+3+4 on wall, follow up with df+4,4 or db+4 or uf+3+4 to jump behind them into b+1+2 tech catch or d+3+4.

Lili doesn't have that many safe moves and again she doesn't track well. Other than her launchers df+2 and uf+3, I only use pokes such as 1,2 df+1, d+4, and other moves like 1+2, ff+4, qcf+2, b+1.

is there anyway to help get rid of lag? usually its not too bad, but sometimes its just HORRRIBLE. i notice that 98% of the time, i am fighting with a worse connection than my opponent.

dont get used to the lag man. I mean if you want to play online and abuse lag just to get your ranking up then go for it, but IMO not worth it. And theres no way to get rid of the lag, its either playable, or non-playable. and I doubt namco is gonna ever try to get p2p for t5dr online. It helps alot when you keep refreshing the Quick match option until you get a game with the connection in green-bar, however.

i was playing some Ganny on a friends ps3 yesterday. I played THE bitchiest Christie ever. He did a bunch of common lag abusing/ ganny counter punishing strings at first, then when he realized I knew all those strings, he starts throwing constantly. BUllshit.

I play as King and personally I have played against King less than 5 times during my online experience. I don't use lag tactics because I usually don't have lag. I am mostly playing at reg. speed cause I got some fast internetz ! I've learned how to play against Paul, just block until he does his fast punch of satan then either low attack or hold the shit out of him. It's been working so far...

Canto, the network error results from your router. Check your NAT type on your network settings. It should be either type 1 or 2, if its type 3 then you gotta forward your ports.

WOW DR Online really pissed me off tonight. I was playing this guy named SLOstyle618. Get on there and beat his ass if you can get a good enough connection with him. Total fucking scrub is what he is. It was a bit laggy, so he would keep using strings with Steve's low knockdown punch at the end. Then he would oki like 50% of my life. It was retarded. He abused the living hell out of lag. It wouldn't make me mad to lose to anyone if they weren't abusing the fucking out of lag. This is just retarded though. Anyway, like I said before...if anyone wants to get GOOD NON-LAG ABUSING MATCHES IN, ADD ME! Thanks, lol.

Terrible terrible lag tonight. Probably somewhat my fault. Downloading the Turok demo (I'm guessing it's huge because it's been going for hours and not done) so I suspect that slowed things up some. Cable really surprised me with an Eddy that could almost match mine. I just wish I didn't get lag losses, that shit is infuriating. df + 1 repeatedly should not, and does not beat someone off line, but the mind games you can play off of having to block that and be a couple frames behind is just attrocious. *thumbs down * once again to Tekken. Cable you're pretty good tho, like GK I'd want to play you offline.

Im really enjoying Tekken at the moment, its much more fun than Id originally anticipated, shame the connections online are so random. I was thinking of swtching to Law, but for some reason I cant nail the DSS online, really weird since its so simple. Liked your Yoshi alot!! My friend plays Yoshi but not as well as you, he could do with playing a few against yours!

law is a solid character, offline, he's my lili counter as he has a bunch of safe mids and quick pokes to harass and punish her. Just don't get into novice tactics such as doing 1,2,3 followed by CH d+2,3 set up if they block the 1,2,3. Good players will punish the d+2,3 everytime. Junkyard kick string also sucks because it can be low parried.

Wow, last night something took over my network called "googlesyndication.com." It would try to load every time I opened up a page and make my network work at 56k speeds. Therefore, no matter what I looked up on my computer or who I played Tekken with online, it was all unbearable. I looked it up and others were having the same issues. For some reason, it's not here this morning. Very weird.

absolutely. That one account can download it up to FIVE times (this is unlike Xbox where you download it once, it's stuck on that console) you have five chances to download it...in case your switch hard drives or etc. or you game share it to a friend. From my understanding, you're able to download it from that friend and play it like you bought the game. Hence, "game-share"

Lots of black connection bars last night with too many people but I've had some good connections today. I guess it depends on being on at the right time. I'm sure DR is lag free in all of Japan and most of Europe because those regions are very closely situated. I've had some matches with people on the east coast with decent connections, though.

Kinda sucks I have to drop four or five people in a row until I play someone that connects well enough with me. The player select screen does a great job in letting me know if the match is going to lag really badly or not, thankfully.

I just got off. Everytime I play Tekken online, I remember why since I bought it in Oct, I have maybe 55 total matches.

Got damn lag, juggles, and low 8 frame pokes. Nothing is the damn same. If you do a poke, and it takes extra frames from input to move...its not an 8 frame attack anymore. I'm also tire of missing juggles. My bars are always green, its bullshit.

I had a tournament yesterday, in which I wanted to bring a new character out, but my only practice would have been online, and I dont want to be lag compensating when I'm trying to do shit in the real game.

Oh MY connection is just fine. PS3 and XBL are just fine, I always have green bars on games for either system that does a connection meter, and on my PC, ping is usually only a few MS even if far away.

Its these other goddamned idiots. I see it like this, if I practice some stuff, and those same combos dont work at all, because of latency, but YOU can pull off your stuff, the you are a "lag artist". So many times I see myself unable to play decently because stuff luike close range fighting, or even buffered throws dont work, but yet this random guy can get all his fucking shit to happen.

How is the shit fun? You want to keep your record decent, but you cant win matches you know you should. I JUST got on and fought some guy, it was a 6 man room, he wasnt all that good, doing stuff you can see from a mile away, like Kazuya 2144 10-hit. And the guys were getting hit by it. Im thinking he keeps doing that trash, and NOBODY is parrying the 5th hit?

Then I played him, and I saw why.

With that game saving your W/L, and the fact that you lose to some BULL, makes a deterrent to even play online. Plus the fact that no combos are the same. Since I know a fairly decent amount of people that play offline, I dont want my REAL play, fucked up by online garbage.

Some odd reason MK2 plays PERECT 99% of the time, and Smackdown 2008 plays decent. Fuckin saturday morning, what you gonna do? I wish I was 7 again, so I could watch some cartoons.

Yeah, DRO is bullshit. I still play though because it's hard to get people together in person sometimes. Sometimes you just want to get on your PS3 and play fighters at midnight too. I think people mixing up the Asaka strings online is annoying. I try to low parry the quick sweeps and the big sweeps and it doesn't work because of lag. Also, has anyone played the #1 guy on the ranking system?He plays from Canada and he really isn't good (Ziegfield or whatever). Also, what else makes me mad about online is that I have trouble hitting d,df,1,2 with Julia in combos which adds a lot of damage. Anyway, if you don't abuse lag, hit me up online.

Gearing up Anna for online play, I don't even bother joining rooms with low bars anymore. It's not worth it lol, then those stupid boots when they lose. Yep, just stay away...I don't mind a few yellow or greens, but constant red is shit.
