Does anyone here legally own an M16, M4A1, any of it's variants or any rifle that's capable of firing in full auto? If so how did you get it?

You can try a 12 gauge if they're at close range and you want to end it fast.....

First check the laws in your state. The states website is a good start. They will usually state what types of firearms are allowed in your state. Or, head to your local gunshop and ask the dealer. Most will be more than willing to give you information. Plus with those guns you might need a special license.

So asking SRK is useless. If you obtain it any other way other than finding out if that firearm is legal in your state is essentially illegal in most firearm laws. Plus, if you are asking this then it seems you might not be familiar with buying firearms in general. Most who do usually know what they can and can not buy, obtain, hold and use in their state.

I think it depends on the state, but I believe in Colorado you can get a collector's permit and legally own an automatic weapon.

I remember back in high school when I worked for a moving company there was one guy we did a job for that had won the lottery. He had a whole room in his house (with a crazy thick steel security door) with all sorts of shit; everything from Uzis to the Barret (I think that's the name...the super high caliber sniper rifle the US military uses that can take out small vehicles with a shot to the engine) and even a machine gun mounted on a jeep.

from wikipedia Sales of actual M4s by Colt are restricted to military and law enforcement. Only under special circumstances can a civilian (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Civilian) own an official M4 Carbine.
i know M16s are the same the exception is they were legal for a few years and alot of people have them "discreetly"

but the AR-15 is semi-auto i think and its totally legal and similar to the m16
(i remember this because its the gun the washington shooter used)

My friend's dad, who is an avid deer hunter, collects rifles and some other weapons. But he showed me his new weapon that looked identical to an M4. I don't remember if it could fire on burst or if it's only single shot. But I was surprised as I thought only the military could obtain those weapons especially that model(I didn't even get assigned that weapon when I was in active duty, just had the m16-a2)

Does anyone know if it's ok to give a gun as a gift in California? I'm at work and a fuckton of websites are blocked.

pawned.

Anyway, I don't really know much on getting assault rifles, I know the ban on them was lifted.. but I don't think your regular gun spot is gonna carry them.

I own a rock river arms AR-15, and it has remained in it's legal semi auto config. I don't own a class 3 license which would allow me to own such a gun, and I have no circumstances which would allow me to obtain a class 3 (prior or current military service being the one way that comes to mind) nor do I want to pay the $1,500-ish each year to maintain such a license.

A class 3 license grants you ownership of full auto weapons, and silencers, and probably a few other things. I think there is a class of body armor that requires a class 3 as well.

Most military weapons have a civilian version that can be obtained from (or shipped to directly) any FFL dealer. I can go get a civi p90 if I wanted to, and I am very tempted to do so. I doubt I could find a SAW converted into semi auto for me, but if I found one I am pretty sure I could legally purchase it.

The gun laws in cali are really anti gun owner, so a gun transfer might be a tricky business. I know here you just bring the gun with you and the new owner to a FFL and then they will reassign the gun after they run a background check, and then the gun legally belongs to the new owner.

Finally the assault weapons ban was not simply a ban on the things we see as assault rifles, it was a ban on certain properties of guns. I could dig up a list, but off the top of my head the weapon would be labeled as an assault weapon if it had at least 2(?) of the following:
folding/retracting stock
pistol grip
more than a 10 round mag
threaded barrel for silencers et al.
bayonet mount

there are probably more things, but I know it was illegal to purchase high cap mags during the ban, but old ones could be traded through auction sites and at shows.

I think flash suppressors were also included in that list, but I could be wrong.

Thankfully that piece of crap "Assault Weapons Ban" has sunsetted. What a waste of a law.

Before the ban they could throw around the idea that it "could" reduce violent crime. Now that they have hard evidence that it didn't reduce violent crime it seems like it would be going against reason to reinstate the ban. Of course mentioning reason shows I really don't understand how politics work.

You fucking Barry Bonds'ed that shit.

Que?! I've always used that verb in this context: To "Barry Bonds that shit" would be to hit it out of the park with the added assistance of strength-altering substances. Example -

Guy 1: "Did you see that fine ass broad at the mall today?"
Guy 2: "Fuck yeah, I'd Barry Bonds that shit in a second."

Anyhow, yes. I do exercise my 2nd amendment rights and plan to augment my collection. I have a few inherited shotguns from my grandfather. When I'm 21 I plan on buying two Colt Single Action Army revolvers. Cowboy shit. Nobody will come in my house without my permission and/or try to take my shit/kill me.

I'll be damned if I vote H. Clinton too.
