When you guys (who work...but I guess school is ok too) are dead tired for one reason or another at work, what do you do to keep yourself from passing out? Any suggestions welcome :wgrin:
didn't get very good sleep last night (or the past few nights for that matter) and it is all really hitting me today.
i usually step outside or go to the cafe on first floor and get a drink or something
I used to get a coffee on my way home from work every night (around 9 pm), but since Ive stopped, I have no trouble getting up in the morning, and arent tired at all. You drinking coffee at night? Gettin lots of sleep?
If so, just try drinking some coffee in the morning, or during work.

The coffee here tastes like mud x.x, but I may start drinking it again. It doesn't help that I forgot to pack a lunch this morning either =\ all the places around here are cash only. Stupid fucking neighborhood.

I usually get a Monster Assault energy drink. And as far as keeping myself awake I read the news paper or CNN.com, or go on SRK. Keeps my mind jogging so I don't think about how tired I am.

I usually just tough it out. I find if I can get over that initial "hump" of tiredness, the second wind comes and I'll be good for a while. That and some food+drink combo. Really, just anything to break the monotony to snap you back to being awake.

Only when the fries are done making, I normally go skin stretching in the bathroom for a bit. Always works. So don't do it if you want to stay awake.

I browse different forums/facebook/whatever
I found that i am more awake if i drink coffee AT work. Like, before, I used to drink a very big cup of coffee at home each morning, and did ok. But then I decided to get one of those expensive starbucks mugs, make coffee in the morning (or stop by starbucks on the way to work, but doesn't happen too often) and start drinking it when I get to my desk. Maybe it's all in my head, but it's been working for me =)
Also, I don't like to preach but I like giving credit where credit is due. I pray every morning so God gives me energy/knowledge/skill to get through that day's work. Works. :china:

I find that snacking on fruit is a really solid way of staying awake. My choice is definately grapes and cherries. Give it a try new time since it sounds like you need a quick fix right now haha. For that, just have coffee, but don't hammer it back. Take your time and enjoy the coffee and you'll be fresh for the rest of the day. If you pound it back, you'll crash hard in the afternoon.

Yeah I def. need to eat more fruit. My diet is fucked up cuz I live on my own, go to college, and have a shitty wage so fruit gets expensive unless that's the only thing I want to eat. So ususally I just go with carbs(cheap pasta and sauce, ramen), maybe some veggies, and lunch meat for sandwhiches. Occasionally I'll get a Jamba Juice if I'm feeling really deprived.

When I used to get really tired at work, I'd go to the washroom or something, and jog in place or jump up and down to get the blood flowing.
Drinking water is the way to go. If you rely too much on caffeine, it'll be rough if you ever need to break that cycle. Seriously though, drink the "recommended" 64oz of fluid (but make it non-caffeine filled) and you will want to pee so often that you will stay awake just going to the bathroom every 10-15 min.

- you could do caffiene, but i prefer a steady source of sugar (e.g. megadoses of fruit or fruit juice in the morning)
- sleep on the way to and from work. put one day of your weekend aside just to sleep.
- don't waste time.
