School suspends boy for sketching gun
Associated Press
Tucson, Arizona | Published: 08.22.2007

MESA - Chandler school officials have suspended a 13-year-old boy for sketching a picture that resembled a gun, saying it posed a threat to classmates.
But parents of the Payne Junior High School student said the drawing was a harmless doodle of a fake laser, and school officials overreacted.
"I just can't believe that there wasn't another way to resolve this," said Paula Mosteller, the boy's mother. "He's so upset. The school made him feel like he committed a crime. They are doing more damage than good."
The Mostellers said the drawing did not show blood, bullets, injuries, or target any human. They said it was just a drawing that resembled a gun.
But Payne Junior High administrators thought the sketch was enough of a threat and gave the boy a five-day suspension, later reduced to three days.
Chandler district spokesman Terry Locke said the sketch was "absolutely considered a threat," and threatening words or pictures are punishable.
The school did not contact police and did not provide counseling or an evaluate the boy to determine if he intended the drawing as a threat.
School officials issued the suspension Monday afternoon. They notified the student's father, Ben Mosteller. He met with school officials and persuaded them to shorten his son's suspension from 5 days to 3.
Ben Mosteller said that when he came to the school to discuss his son's punishment, school officials mentioned the seriousness of the issue and talked about the massacre at Colorado's Columbine High School _ the site where two teenagers shot and killed 12 students and injured 24 others in 1999.
The Mostellers said the Columbine reference was extreme and offensive.
They have contacted the district's governing board about the incident involving their son.

If it's in the Chandler school districts, he is probably of mexican heritage, just an educated guess. My two cousins live in Chandler, and say lots of students can't even speak english at their school.

But regardless of his race, that's fucked up. If he just drew a gun, imagine what they would've done to me for my drawings of GI Joes and mutant animals way back in the day. They would probably slit my throat and hang me out to dry.

This is fucking ridiculous.

I drew a skull and crossbones in class once, with the caption "Death by Tire Iron" and GAVE IT to a girl.

I meant nothing by it, I just thought it was funny.

I didn't get suspended, or punished in any way.

at all.

I might've gotten reprimanded, maybe a demerit, but I KNOW I didn't get expulsion, suspension, or even DETENTION, or I would've remembered it.

and the teacher administering the punishment was a stone faced, fuckhead prick, who HATED me.

times were different back in 1993

When I was in 5th Grade, I remember the teacher making us do a "Halloween" themed drawing.

the gorier the better.

I had people being disembowled, chainsaw wielding maniacs beheading people, knives, guns, axes, machetes, monsters, dismemberments, people using other people's limbs as weapons, chains, swords, and all manner of macabre torture devices.

I got an "A".

one time I went to this tech institute for a class and I was bored and doing nothing so I started drawing this badass gatling gun for a giant robot (complete with tubes, pipes and many unnecessary details). the teacher walks by and just like THAT she whips out a marker and scribbles all over it and threatens to expel me if it ever happens again. getting suspended is alright, but straight up getting kicked out for drawing a weapon that is only good against stone giants and lizard men is pretty harsh.

but yeah. thinking about that kid drawing a gun made me shit myself in fear, no joke. they are going to enforce curfew after 6 p.m. and families will be encouraged to lock their doors at all times, chaos will run rampant!! dear god, its good they caught this maniac before his damn poison infected the other children!! THE GROUND TEARING UP WHILE BLOOD FLOWS THROUGH THE STREETS! DEMONS FUCKING OUR SOULS WITH A DOZEN DEMON TENTACLE COCKS!!

hey, them lizard men mean fucking business.

if you ain't got the sword of screaming redemption, your axe of demonic deforestation isn't gonna do much good.

the only other option would be a dagger of water magnetism, and that would require you to be close quarters.

so, the gatling gun is a good option.

how, exactly is it only good against lizard men?

doesn't this stuff happen all the time? I mean, kids getting suspended over drawings of weapons? Happened pretty frequently in my elementary...and hell, in one case, in my high school.

The reason for suspension is hilarious though. "posed a threat to classmates"?

Jesus, I think the only thing that I drew from about first to sixth grade were individuals shooting each other with large, cool-looking handguns, rifles, machine guns, and shotguns. So did all my friends. We had competitions to see whose drawings looked cooler and meaner.

They might as well suspend a girl for drawing a picture of a pony, because, you know, a pony can trample someone to death or throw them to the ground.

I got in trouble once for drawing my teacher in middle school (who was a guy) with a vagina on a couch, touching it while liquids leaked out of it. I then drew my other teacher kneeling over and taking one in the mouth.

I made them just to see what my friend would say and threw them away but some asshole took them out of the trash and told on me. I was sent to the office and was asked why I would draw that stuff. But it was hard to keep a straight face when you see the pictures right there on the table in front of you. And the fact that they were so poorly drawn was also hilarious. I wish I still had them.

Oh well, good times. RIP Mr. Ash - sorry we gave you a hard time.

Oh yea, I drew lots of guns in school too. Teachers blowing their brains out and whatnot. During middle school, I would draw guns constantly. Luckily my teachers didn't care.

Damn, that kid could've grown up to be the next great comic book artist or something, but they HAD to go and fuck it up. I didn't think it was possible to be full of shit to that degree. My friends and I drew people battling/killing each other all the time and no one's ever pulled a dick move like in the article.

It also reminds me of when I used to write a bunch of fucked up shit in my creative writing class and present it in front of the class (I wrote the shit out of amusement, I wasn't serious about it). My teacher was disturbed and worried about the stuff I was writing, but I never got put out of class for it.

It's a sad day when people are paranoid over drawings that aren't even directed at anyone.

Wow.....school Administrators are real pussies nowadays. How is a GI-Joe even remotely threatening? Childeren getting suspended from school can have very dangerous consequences that can come back and bite us. We want our kids to be smarter yet we kick them out of school for being kids. What is really disturbing is them((pussy ass school admins.)think they are actually stopping things like school shootings from happening. If they took out the time to study school shootings they would know that there is nothing you can really do about crazy motherfuckers who want to kill the dicks who humiliated then for years. Whatever security measures are in place to prevent them are just going to be beaten out by security loopholes and ingenuity that they just cant forsee. But what I can forsee is an entire generation of people who are deficient in Math/Science who were kicked out of school for simply being kids. I know because I am one of these people I speak of........

it's depressing to realize how many people in power are this stupid.

Yes. Yes, it is. But it's not the people in "power." The teachers, principals and everyone else involved in this specific story are all just mindless automatons who live in what little fear and ignorance they can salvage to form a pointless personality.

I don't know. Short of sounding like a conspiracy nut, there's little that can be said about this. The united states is quickly working its way into becoming a police state, if not an blatant communist state.

Did you know that back in March, president bush signed into law, unbeknownst to congress (and the American people), power that would give him the ability to declare martial law and have absolute executive power in the U.S.? It makes him a dictator. So, in the case of another "terrorist attack," or even a natural disaster, say, hurricane Katrina, president bush can claim an "official" "state of emergency" andthe U.S. Democracy can quickly become a dictatorship.

Now, add all of that to this case in point and many like it, it seems the people of the U.S. are being desensitized to this way of life.

I mean think about it. The replies on this very thread are "Oh, that's horrible!" "I can't believe this" "I can't believe the people in power are this stupid," etc etc...

THAT is what is wrong. People, I think have forgotten who really has the power in this nation, but the U.S. government has suffocated that point and have turned the tables. So, instead of the government serving the people of the U.S., the people are serving a select few of the elite. I'm dead serious. You can see it coming. For those who have seen it coming for a while now, we will laugh at those who cry for help. At least I will.

In closing, as I'm sure many of you are unaware, there's something secret, but already law, that is supposed to take place in (I think) May of 2008. That's just around the corner. It's the National ID Act.

Simply put, every american citizen will be required to have every bit of their personal information imbedded in a chip that will be injected into their body. This chip will contain:

1. Basic background and hereditary information
2. Bank account information
3. Certificates and liscenses
4. A doctor-evaluated psycho-analysis for crime prevention/intervention
5. Health hazards. You won't be able to order pizza if you have high cholesterol unless you're willing to pay 50$ for it in case you need medical assistance. This so the pizza place can cover any lawsuits.
6. GPS Tracking Device
7. Records. Movie rentals, appointments, movies, everything you purchase, when and where will be logged in the chip.

Everything in your life will be accounted for and there will be no privacy.

Of course, you can choose NOT to have this chip inserted and you won't be able to:

Drive.
Enter government buildings
Travel out of the nation.
Have a job
Hunting without a liscense is already illegal.

What kind of legal lifestyle is left if you refuse, even if you, the people disagree with the card in the first place? Is it no longer your say? What a spin on reality!

Sounds eerily like Nazi Germany... on an until now unseen scale.

Alright. It is already fact. People might actually wake up and universally reject the idea but considering the track we're currently on, that seems unlikely, though I do hope that will happen. IT IS ALREADY LAW. But like so many current laws, the average american citizen is totally unsuspecting. You can deny it and neg rep me for bringing shit to the table and bringing none of your own, that's fine. You exemplify the exact mentality I pointed out.

EDIT: You are aware that one couple already opted, volunteered to accept this chip, right? It was on CNN and FoxNews a couple of weeks ago. But, whatever man. Do some research before you form opinions.

This legislation was intended to deter terrorism by implementing the following:

* Establishing national standards for state-issued driver's licenses and non-driver's identification cards;
* Waiving laws that interfere with construction of physical barriers at the borders;
* Updating and tightening the laws on application for asylum and deportation of aliens for terrorist activity;
* Introducing rules covering "delivery bonds" (rather like bail bonds but for aliens who have been released pending hearings);
* Funding some reports and pilot projects related to border security; and
* Changing visa limits for temporary workers, nurses, and Australian citizens.

I really love it when the mentally unstable go into a random forum topic and start posting all their crazy, psychotic ideas.

The best part is that Obkb probably can't even read; the idea about a chip inserted into one's body is a suggestion for the ARMED FORCES, not common citizens. And it doesn't have any information on it; it would be used to track missing soldiers. That is, save peoples' lives. (What the fuck? How would storing information on a chip be even remotely helpful if it's inside of someone?)

Nice try using scare tactics, you worthless cumstain, but you're better off posting on a junior high school message board, where no has yet learned how to use Google or Wikipedia.
