The theme from John Carpenter's Halloween
The theme from The Exorcist
The theme from Suspiria (which is basically the bootleg Halloween Theme)

And, scariest of all:

The theme from Unsolved Mysteries. It is fucking creepy, and the show would have been laughable without it.

The theme from Suspiria (which is basically the bootleg Halloween Theme)

I just heard of and saw that movie for the first time a few weeks ago... weird.

X files theme song
28 Weeks Later theme (In the house - in a heartbeat by John Murphy)
That scary orchestra song from Requiem for a Dream
The intro to Jamiroquai's "Deeper Underground" looped over and over
Mortal Kombat 2 theme music (still scares me today)
Sonic 2 Oil ocean and mystic cave zone themes :P

Sonic 2 Oil ocean and mystic cave zone themes :PMystic Cave rules. Transcribed for piano, it's this complex wacky jazz shit... very cool.

Of course, the score to the series really took off with Sonic 3+Knuckles. In keeping with the spirit of the thread, I will nominate the desert stage from S&K, particularly the second act.

Song that plays in The Blair Witch Project's ending credits (don't know the name).

"Focus" from the Quake soundtrack.

I think The Blaire Witch Project credits song would be much better for something that plays in a haunted house, it's very ambient.

hmmm if you'd like a band maybe virgin black? They've got some orchestral/doom stuff that's pretty tight. Not straight out creepy though, just very foreboding?

This man knows what he's talking about. I agree with every single choice, ESPECIALLY Suspiria's theme.

If VRViperII knows what's good for him, he'd do well to follow this advice.

Tales from the Darkside, the intro theme for Dark City....

-Hellraiser movie themes(I have part 3, and I think some of part 1)
-Candyman is good stuff, but all the tracks are basically the same musical phrasing, and the same chord progression...I still love the Candyman theme though...enough to actually buy it immediately when I saw it in a Tower Records one day.
-anything from Danny Elfman...but it's more of a "kooky", sometimes silly-but-macabre sound. I had at least 2 cd compilations of his work.

-Poltergeist, the Carol Ann theme.--I have this on a Sci-Fi's Greatest Hits(horror theme) cd...it has a sweet and childish sound, yet it comes off as quite disturbing....perfect for that film of course.

-New Nightmare--of course it includes the classic Nightmare on Elm Street theme....there's also a great but unfortunately short track on there called "Nosebleed".

-Legend--The theme of that devil-looking character "Darkness"....it plays when he steps out of a mirror, making his first appearance of course.

-Resident Evil soundtrack is quality, top tier material. Sadly, my CD is scratched to hell.

-playstation version of Doom. I definitely prefer the slower ambient sounds of terror over that midi-rock trash from the original pc version of the game.(*this is one reason I never bought the xbox Live Arcade version of Doom, because since it is the original...it has the original music, and not the cool psx version music.)

-demented "circus" style themes are good too...check out "The Surprise of Miss Louise"(I think that's the name) on The Lost Boys soundtrack....though the real draw for that album is "Cry Little Sister".

-Also...Cirque Du Soleil....the music there can be surprisingly dark on occasion. Unfortunately I only have 2 of those albums, but both are highly recommended: Mystere and Nouvelle Experience.

As you can see, I can't get enough of this kind of music. It actually fits me more than any other style.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vfdl7-E80QOkay, that has to be one of the worst covers ever.

But at least the guitarist nailed the EVH solo. That's the most important part of the song.
