View Full Version : Vid of Dreams (also as seen at evo:)
This is a big SF compilation combo vid. Split up into 3 parts (with some random crap inbetween). There's a big section on all the arcade versions, from WW to ST. A SNES section and then a section dedicated to rainbow edition. It runs about 15 mins and is full of stupid editing.
Though I'm going to do a big write up on the specifics I'm pretty sure some of these glitches/combos are new. The thing I'm most excited about is the floaty combos in section 1. Remember that they are all done on legit arcade versions and they can be done on all popular console verions of every SF2 game.
anyway here it is
http://www.combovideos.com/page.php?id=1543
and here's a little leftovers video (featuring HnK, 3s and a bit of CvS2)
http://www.combovideos.com/page.php?id=1544
and if anyone missed them here are the 2 trailers I did ages ago

2 (streaming)

any and all feedback is appreciated. Hope peeps enjoy it :)
Oh yeah and it's called SF movie vol. 2 because the Ken v Gief trilogy was Vol. 1. Also there's a few alterations and additions over the version that was shown at evo. I'd just like to give a huge thanks to jchensor, Mr. Wizard and everyone at evo for allowing it to be shown, just gutted I couldn't be there myself :(

Very nice work, Desk. The editing is superb. Effects were used in just the right amount to keep things interesting without becoming too flashy or overshadowing the gameplay itself.

yeah i agree with felineki. the only effect i didnt like was the blurring you used on some of the rainbow edition combos but it's not a big deal really. awesome work!
omg i gotta know the song in the "not hardcore" video! that's goin in my marvel mix! :D
It's the theme from 'police story', as sung by Mr. Jackie Chan.
Heh, my guesses were old chinese wire movie or chinese fist of the north star localization. Thankya kindly sir!

The effects I liked most were in the SNES section, where the characters were placed in the stage and then jumped into action. Also the use of layers was excelent (particually in the intro), it's no wonder this video took so long to make. Time well spent if you ask me...
This video is top quality!!

That vid there is some top tier editing for sure. And LOL at all the float combos and MK-like juggle combos on CE Dhalsim.
Hahaha i just noticed the random bicycle rider from your trailer in the intro of this video at 0:22. Nice touch.

This video is truly incredible. Fantastic editing with a lot of stuff I've never seen before. I really liked the music, and it was pretty awesome when the beat/whatever was in sync with what was happening on screen, heh. Awesome.
thank you kindly. Yeah I always make an effort to sync stuff. In fact I'm pretty sure every single edit (that isn't a fade) is in time with the music. And yeah maj, that bicyicle guy from the trailer was a little easter egg, lol. I spend TOO much time on my videos!
I'm currently setting up a little webpage with my good friends at neoempire.com. So i'll be doing write ups on some of the combo's and glitches pretty soon. I've just finished a little tutorial on the float glitch actually, so hopefully that'll go on the page aswell.
Oh yeah, and I made the front page of SRK! I'm so proud:rofl:

I had that problem when I was using Firefox, and it would eventually crash my browser trying to load it, so I just used IE instead. IE made WMP pop up, and I just let it completely download through WMP and then went to File > Save as.

Doesn't work on combovideos, they use a php referral link or whatever, so when you do that it just tries to save a .php file, etc.

sweet. Using IE actually worked. LeRaldo hit everything dead on what was going on. And I've tried right click and saving as in firefox but didn't work.
But i got it now, thanks!
Thank you for moving this thread, someone picked up on the subtle VG vs FGD thing that was going on, lol.
EDIT: The music from parts 1 and 2 and the ryu vs sim bit are all music ripped directly from games (street fighter EX and super castlevania). The track from part 3 is from the resident evil 2 soundtrack. Everything else was newly recorded. Even the character select music during the CvS2 transition oddly enough.

Awesome work! Even though SF2 has been around for over 10 years, I always see something I didn't know about in these vids. Extra credit for using SFEX music, and showing combos from Rainbow Edition...didn't see that one coming.
I liked the intermission with the 8-bit Castlevania III SFX and music. Brilliant. So, can that stuff with Makoto be applicable in real matches?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking... He almost made Makto-III look top tier...
Some of the stuff in the makoto section is very possible in actual match play but some bits would never work. You have a huge amount of invincibility when activating her SA3. So technically it can get you out of unblockables, You'll probably still have to parry afterwards but you can really mess with people. it can be used when the opponent tries to jump in and attack aswell. However the other effects rely on the opponent randomly trying to attack immediately after your neutral throw, which doesn't really happen.

Hahaha i just noticed the random bicycle rider from your trailer in the intro of this video at 0:22. Nice touch.Yeah, that was one of my favorite little touches in this video. Just seeing him cycling by way off in the background.
The Makoto invincibility part really came out great. The earlier version with the pixelization filter was cool in concept, but ended up being a little too distracting, IMO. The music and sound effects are top tier.
Some trivia: I did the ST-styled mix of the Alpha 2 character select theme that gets used in one of the transitions. I found an auto-tuning program the other night and got all of the ST samples I ripped properly tuned (up to this point I had been tuning them as I used them), so I'm that much closer to releasing a full pack for anyone else who wants to use them.
I liked how you crouched to the music with Rog. :wgrin:

I still can't open the video, anyway for someone to mirror it? Or perhaps youtube it? I keep getting access denied from IE and firefox.

I wantt my 3S to have CVIII SE and music.
Dude!!!!!!!!!! Awesome, congrats!
Can you tell me how you did that 3D effects on the SF2 selection screen, on the zangief stage coming in in layers, and how you put that cell shading like effect?
yeah felinki has soooo much awesome ST stuff up his sleeve that hella helped with some of the vid. I gave him a midi score and he did insane things and gave it back to me, exaclty how it would sound if it was the BG music in ST. He mixed it aswell. top tier!

Great Music, man Can you make vids for me heheh, I would love to send you content to edit, your skills it top tier.
As far as the actual video thanks for uploading for me, and its great, not much more that hasn't been said has been said. I was WTFing a few times, so thats a sign of good stuff ;).
Also can you give me an idea on how to edit, I am newb heh, I barely use Virtualdub X_X.

It's finally done. Now every time I AHVB Commando, I'll think of taking down crime lords and Balrog headbutts. Thanks again!
That is fucking awesome!!!!!! I can imagine being 10x as good at the game with that music in the background, lol.
Since this thread got a bump I'm going to post a little bit. KYSG did a little write up of vod (along with maj's fantastic guile exhibition) on his site and Mr. NKI was kind enough to translate it for me.
http://www011.upp.so-net.ne.jp/kysg/
First I'll talk about desk's new vid.
[picture and YouTube links]
The whole thing is uploaded on combovideos.com. The theme of the vid is the Street Fighter series (including Rainbow Edition), and it also includes some clips from the SNES version of Alpha 2. If you don't know what Rainbow Edition is, please Google it.
As far as the contents, what really caught my eye was the CE juggle combos on Dhalsim. Being that this bug was fixed in AE, desk actually had to do the combos in CE. There were several that were so good I had to go back and watch them again.
I'm wondering if getting hit during pre-jump animation is what causes this bug? When I tried it out, this definitely didn't seem to be the case.
The content of the vid is so good that it doesn't even need good editing. However, the editing and choreography in this vid are EXCEPTIONALLY GOOD. This isn't merely a combo video; it is the "The World of desk", elegantly portrayed.
The float write up and video are done, I just have to put a webpage together which is taking forever because I don't know what I'm doing.

hey whos stage is the soundtrack digital ignition from in sfex2?
and do u have a copy you can send me? that track owns.
I don't think the stages in EX2 belong to any one character. You can get it online but I'm unsure if I'm allowed to post the link. It's from the PSX version by the way(which has remixed versions of all the original arcade music).

The arcade version actually had assigned stages for some chars(Claw and Gief come to mind). PSX ver just shuffled everything but the boss stages and hidden boss stages.

i especially liked the jab shoryuken strong shoryuken fierce shoryuken fireball hurricane kick double ko (ken/ryu) and that 30 screen gief atomic buster. good shit i tried that ryu/ken stuff w/ my son for about an hour but couldnt reinact tho. i did however pull off the 30+screen 360 piledriver kickass. keep it coming bro. RAINBOW is a nice break from the technical. and funny stuff . oh and could somebody pm me or tell me how to teleport on rainbow thx.
To teleport (info originally from maj) you hold down fierce and roundhouse for a second or 2 and then release. You'll suddenly appear behind/in front of your opponent. It was ages ago that I didn't those combos so i can't remember all the details but I think they act differently depending if you're player 1 or 2. Sometimes allowing 'backwards' moves and such.
