View Full Version : Help Using VF5 Hori EX2 360 Stick on Mac/MAME OSX

I recently purchase the Hori EX2 360 arcade stick and am trying to use on my mac in MAME OS X. I have a 360 controller driver installed and a normal wired 360 controller works fine in MAME for me. My MacBook Pro doesn't recognize the joystick, but it does light up when plugged in. Any suggestions?
Has anyone had any success using the DOA4 stick in MAME OS X?
If that works should I consider returning this stick in an attempt to get the DOA one?
Thanks

The existing 360 controller driver most likely doesn't work because the new stick probably has a different product ID than the DOA4 stick, add another device descriptor to the 360Controller.kext kernel extension plist-file and it ought to work.

1. Install BootCamp.
2. Install Windows.

Duplicate the entry for the DOA4 stick (both the key and the dictionary that follows it) and rename it to something different (say "EX2Stick"). Start your System Profiler application and locate the vendor and product ID for your stick, replace the values in your edited plist-file with these (vendor ID ought to be the same). After saving the file make sure permissions remains the same so it can be read by the kernel process! Then, reboot...

Start System Profiler (it's in Utilities under Applications), expand the hardware submenu to the left in the main window and highlight USB, highlight your stick in the device tree up right and your device's vendor and product ID will be visible bottom right.
also what program should I use to edit all this in
Any text editor, TextEdit should work well enough.

K i ve got it all figured out but the vendorID is different from the DOA stick, and the productID is also similarly strange
it gives me for the vendorID 3853 for DOA and a productID of 10
for the EX2 I get a vendor of 0x0f0d and a product of 0x000d
should I remove the x, d and f's? it did not work when I used the codes I got for it

Ahh, those numbers are in hex (base 16) while the software expects them to be regular decimal (base 10). After converting them vendor ID becomes 3853 (thus, the same) and product ID should be 13. Try those and it ought to finally work!

Looked in the Console for error messages? I'm thinking there must be something wrong with the plist edit...

**** I can't even get this to work with windows.. Unless I use Xpadder to get input from the stick (Doesn't work with LT,RT), and joy2key for buttons (Works for lt, rt, but not stick lol)

Has anyone found a solution yet? I've tried everything mentioned in this thread, and no luck.

I tried my DOA stick and my EX stick and no luck. I have various USB adaptability programs, but none of them do anything for this. I'm using a PPC mac, so I think I'm even less likely to get something going on mine. Good thing I have a windows machine for games. =/
At least I tried though.

Ok I got the stick working fine in windows, no need for xpadder or anything like that, just use this guide I found:
