Killer Instinct followed by SamSho and Fatal Fury. The place I went had no SFII that worked (I remember broken machines against a wall) but had a few KI machines and a good mix of SNK.

any fighter. That was a good era.
People still met and battled in arcades and 7-11's back then. There was still a scene and for me the best part was being a preteen and coming and whooping the older teenagers. Who of course then would shout all obscenities about me sucking because they coouldnt handle Dhaslsim's slide. lol.
Ya I remember telling my friends how to play...
"Dude, the best button is roundhouse by far. Use that button alot."
And we would too. Nothing funnier than seeing an 8yr old beat an 18 yr old with one button.

Any KOF games released during that time.... Egypt was my only choice for arcades back then, and KOF was what they had. Actually, hang on, It was definitely RB Fatal Fury! I could never beat the 4th A.I. opponent.....

Between 90 - 94 Street Fighter II CE
Alpha 2 was my most played arcade fighter of the nineties. My local arcade had a good Alpha 2 scene.

I played Super Street Fighter 2 the most in the arcades. I was studying in Brighton at that time and there was always someone to beat the shit out of on the SSF2 cab.
Alpha 2 was my most played arcade fighter of the nineties. My local arcade had a good Alpha 2 scene.
Same here. Alpha 2 remains one of my favourite SF games.
It was fresh, nice graphics and animation at that time, different playstyle (from the classic SF2 series) and Sakura!

I'll take it SF2 includes any of the SF2 games. CE and HF junky right here. Though in close second would have to be Killer Instinct

Pretty much SF2 WW. Once it hit the SNES though, me and my friends spent all our SF2 time playing it at home. I still remember hooking the SNES version up for the first time on my tiny little black and white tv. Awesome

all of the killer instinct answers are suprising... as it is the same for me as well. i just figured savannah, georgia had an unusually large KI scene for the time, guess it was more widespread.
... tj combo is still one of the most overall fun characters to play in any game past and present imo.
all in all... between 1990-94.. my list is
3. mortal kombat 1
2. street figher 2:WW
1. killer instinct
.. anyone else feel that killer instinct could have become one of the greatest franchises ever if KI2 would have been more of an extension of the 1st game than trying to add all sorts of crap that deterred from the solidness of the first game?(minus cinder being god tier)
