Hey guys. Just wanted to let you all know that I should be getting my demo joystick from MAS Systems in the next week, and I'll be putting it up for sale on the website here shortly. For anyone interested, be sure to keep your eye out on the website or PM me here with any questions you might have. Has anyone else on the boards received theirs yet? I'm sure it will be the same quality that they offer in their other sticks. I'm looking forward to getting this and jumping back online to play SF2 on Xbox Live!! :wonder:

I must have good close up internal pictures ASAP!
There's no mention of it anywhere on the MAS site.

You're right. I just found out about it today myself. Once mine arrives, I'll have it online and ready for everyone to order. I'm pretty hyped as it was really the only thing from keeping me away from SF2 on XBL.

I just recently picked up my Mas stick and the lady working there showed me the Xbox 360 stick. It looked pretty nice. It's a 9 button layout and the face picture is specially made for the 360. Sorry I don't have any pics, but it looks pretty nice though.

question
if you get a x360 MAS specific stick, will it work on PC and PS2 w/o an adapter?

PC might be possible, I'll have to test it when I get it. It won't work with the PS2 though. You'll need a seperate controller for that.

I thought most MAs sticks had a PS1/2 as the "guts" and then they add some parts to that to mak eit compatible w/other systems.
The reason I ask is I would like a mas with ps2 and 360 support w/o glitching and under 150 US

At the moment, the Xbox 360 version of their joystick is Xbox 360 only. There aren't any options for additional systems at the moment. PC might be the only possibility since it works with USB.

Soul, how long will we start seeing universal Mas sticks with 360 support?
I'm leaning towards this, ps2/DC/360/PC compatibility

Heh. In order to get the multi-console sticks to include 360 support would require them either getting a contract to be a third party peripheral maker from MS, or him cracking the protection on the controllers.
I'm still thinking it's probably hacked controllers, like we do. But, we wont know for sure until someone cracks it open and gets me some damn pictures :) If it's anything other than a hacked controller, I'd be damn curious to know how it was done.

I'm not sure. I don't think it's on their agenda right now, but I'm hoping soon. :)

Im sure it uses the 360 PCB. I just finished the conversion of my MAS to 360. It also works with PS2 and Saturn but I had to rewire everything to multiple DB-25's to do it. The other issue is the 360 does not use common grounds so its a real problem.

Hey guys. I just got the stick this morning and played a few games on Xbox live to test it out, and I'm quite impressed. I should have pictures and videos posted on the website very shortly.

Since you live in orlando, is it possible for me to test this out before ordering one? I'm sure people would be interested in an outside opinion and I'd like to try it before purchasing one.

That might be possible. What side of town do you live on? PM me and I'll set it up.

soulhadou, i had some questions about this if ya dont mind..
1) How long is the cord? I hope its greater than 6 ft.
2) Does it have a voice/headst port? Does it work clearly?
3) any input lag?
4) Is it comp stick /comp buttons? with the traditional MAS super pro-stick layhout
5) Have you tried with puzzle fighter umk3, doa (nontraditional games)? Thoughts?
6) does it work with PC w/o any converter?
Thanks
Never had a sitck (Mas ) or otherwise.

Here are some answers:
1) The cord is about 8 ft long, maybe a bit longer.
2) It doesn't have voice/headset capability.
3) There isn't any input lag that I could notice. Seems to respond as good as my wired Xbox 360 controller.
4) It can come with either comp, ultimate, or p360. The layout is the same as their other controllers. Your options would be either a 9 button (SF style, 3 buttons on 3 buttons with start/select/xbox) or 11 button (4 on 4).
5)I tried it with SF2 and Bomberman Live, and in both cases it worked great.
6) Just tried it on my living room computer with ZSNES and it works beautifully.

$155 + shipping. I should have it up sometime this weekend. I'm still messing around trying to make it look right on the site. If anyone is interested in the meantime I can take orders by phone or via email through the "contact us" section of the site.
I look forward to pictures of the stick. Wish it had a mic port though. The wireless mic cost $60..

I'll post some pictures in a few minutes. As for the wireless mic, I sell those as well and can probably save people a few bucks if they bundle it with the joystick. If there's enough interest in that I'll put it together.

SoulHadou, please include close pictures of the board or chip being used inside. If its using something like a hacked PCB, we can confirm it and give it a 'lag proof' label. :)
The curiosity is killing me.

There are some general pictures of the joystick, including one of the inside. This page will be redone this weekend, and those pictures may or may not be there, so save them if you need to. I plan on making the page much better looking with some additional pictures and videos.

Go ahead and take pics, even if you cant see markings. I'll be able to tell something about it just by seeing it.
The real key is a separate chip, small with 8 pins. Might be a through hole chip, but mostly they are surface mount and should have 'XBOX' written on the top. Whatever is or isn't there, I'd just like to see it, and you can't take too many. Whatever you show, its appreciated.
http://www.alphaelectronics.com/images/masinnards.jpg
And that answers everything. It uses a hacked controller, so you can declare with pride that its lag-free. Damn. I was hoping he figured a way around the protection. It also looks like the fierce and roundhouse are going to the triggers (look at the resistors), and not the bumper switches. I'm not really sure I like that idea.
Also, for those that want headset support, get a cell phone headset sized extension cable, open the bottom plate, plug it into the board, and run the extension cable out with the USB cable. You wont have the mute switch or volume control, but you'll have headset.

looks like they just use a wired 360 controller pcb rather than their own chip.
SoulHadou
09-21-2007, 03:11 PM
If it is in fact a regular 360 pcb, then that would definitely explain why it works so good! :)

wait, are they licensed by Microsoft? are they allowed to do this without permission from them?
Edit: is that tape or some silicon caulk or something like that?

IANAL, but my understanding is that it is legal. The security chip is required to be usable on an xbox360. You must get license and clearance from Microsoft in order to buy and use the security chip, which the third party manufacturers like MadCatz do so they can make the controllers. The result, the third party controller, is a true product, and doesnt require a license agreement on the part of the purchaser (MAS Systems in this case).
MadCatz hasnt voilated their license, and MAS Systems doesnt have or need a license. Even if they wanted to sue MAS for this (and there is no reason they would) for DMCA violations, this is VERY clearly a use for the purpose of interoperability, clearly stated in the DMCA as an acceptable use.
Edit: is that tape or some silicon caulk or something like that? Looks like scotch tape to routing the wires and keeping contacts from touching. There is a screw securing the board to the wood, the tape is just for insulation and routing.

No clue. At this point I'm not even sure it is a Microsoft pcb, I'm just posting the pictures for everyone to see that this stick, just like all their other products, are put together pretty nicely on the outside and the inside.
As for the other question, I think it's scotch tape holding down the wires to the pcb.

okay, i just thought that 3rd parties had to manufacture their own pcbs, but i guess i wouldn't see why this is a problem now that you point that out
okay i see the tape clearly now, at first kinda looked like they just poured hot glue over everything to keep it sealed
Hey SoulHadou, just curious, will for some reason these cost more than the other primary system configurations? or will the base be 95 bones?
Whew...it's almost Miller Time

Base for this joystick is $155 + shipping (9 button version) and $165 + shipping (11 button version) as mentioned earlier in this thread. It gives you compatibility for the Xbox 360 and PC. It is also available with the P360 joystick at an additional cost.

It's ready to roll. Just visit the page that I linked in my signature (http://www.alphaelectronics.com/showpages.asp?pid=1025) and add the headset that you would like and the joystick to your shopping cart. Once you checkout, enter "srkheadset" as your coupon code. If you have any problems with the coupon, no worries. I'll go in afterward and adjust the price by $10 to reflect the discount.

There is no lag worth mentioning. I've used it to play a ton of games, locally and on Xbox Live. Heck, I even played Bomberman Live with it and loved it!

Heh, I can't do shit with MAS sticks. But the UPCB can piggyback xbox360 already. If I had the top panel to my stick (currently in djfunkshun's posession), I'd piggyback on mine and put up a tutorial already.

Nothing is wrong with Alpha, I was just curious if anyone else was selling the Xbox 360 version, because I didn't see some options available on Alpha (8 button layouts for example).
