Scotch Whiskey, I usually drink Glenfiddich 12 yr old. If the weather is hot, I chill it for a bit, otherwise, I drink it straight at room temperature. Of course, the longer the whiskey is aged, the smoother and aromatic the whiskey is. Crappy whiskey like Johnny walker red label or most North American whiskey= no thanks.

The best whiskey I ever had was a 40 yr old whiskey called Port Ellen, the fuckin thing is $500 for 700ml, and it went down my throat like silk and the aroma stay in my mouth for 1hr plus.

Some people's definition of straight is like what you say at the end, drink it as it is. So even changing the temperature isn't really drinking it straight. When I tell bartender what i want straight, they just pour it and give it to me. On the rock =/= straight, on the rock is on the rock. Melted water and significantly lower temperature alters the taste just like other liquor, maybe to a less degree but it still changes the flavor.

Scotch is usually an older person's drink. But if you wanna taste good scotch don't even bother with anything cheap. It's not something you wanna skimp on. I think someone already mentioned Johnny Walker Red Label, which isn't too hard on the wallet and it's okay. I know Chivas is more expensive, but it really is worth it. Glenlevit is also nice, but not as easy on the wallet either. Enjoy.

As for scotch, I stick with single malts except for Chivas and Blue Label. But seriously, who the fuck purchases Blue Label. It's so expensive. I prefer things by region, so I stick with Highland/Speyside single malts. If you like yours a little saltier, look for Islay region.

And as for the whole allergic to alcohol, I know someone here in vegas who is allergic, and he doesn't mind. I'm allergic to marijuana, and I don't give a fuck, don't use, don't need it.

Hate to be the one to bring a thread back to life, but what the hell:

I personally like to mix and match things for shots. What I usually drink is either a straight shot of Grand Marnier, or 50/50 Grand Marnier and Hennessy. When I'm not drinking that, I'll probably be looking for a Scotch. When I do that, I usually try to drink either Chivas or a Macallan 15 (I'll usually look for an 18 bottle).

I'm not a rum person, but the local moonshine over here called "pitorro" or "cañita" is some pretty explosive stuff, especially if they cure it right. When I don't drink that, I'll go for the Bacardi special reserve which they only sell in the factory over here.

Vodka? I'm not a big fan of straight-shot vodka. I'll usually mix with juice or something. Smirnoff vodka makes for the best madras, vodka-cranberries and screwdrivers, while Grey Goose seems to be more fitting for vodka-tonic and vodka-Red Bull type stuff. I tried a New Zealand vodka called 42 Below and it's pretty damn good. Possibly the only vodka I can drink straight shot without feeling like shit.

When I used to drink tequila I would just grab any Cuervo Oro Añejado and just gulp it, but after a while I got used to Patrón. Then after getting intoxicated in a club off it, I quit drinking tequila completely.

Straight? Gimme something to nurse over ice. Jameson. A nice single malt scotch (cheap scotch is depressing). I'm fine with rum as long as it isn't spiced.

I drink mostly old man drinks, though. Tom Collins is a favorite, with either gin or vodka (though I prefer the gin, if given the choice). Whiskey Sour. A well-made Rob Roy ("well-made" being the key words). The occasional White Russian. And I really like a Vodka Cranberry, but don't tell anyone.
