...what should I expect?

I know, I know, I'm pretty late. But I've never seen anything remotely highlander related. The extent of my highlander knowledge is "there can be only one" and that I should never, under any circumstances, watch highlander two.

Am I about to waste my time? Is this a movie that has been overhyped by fanboys? Or is it legitimately good cinema.

Is this a movie that has been overhyped by fanboys?

I think so. The tv series (and Adrian Paul) is vastly superior.

Awesome Queen songs...........

Damn, I miss the Highlander show. I didn't like the direction it was going after the whole demon thing.

I used to get Highlander Catalogs..........but the seasons were too expensive for me. They still had some nice memorabillia.

The first movie kicked ass.....

I'm not sure I'd say Highlander is high art... but I will say this: next time you're in a parking garage, and some dude in a trench coat leaps out at you with a samurai sword, your reaction will not be: "What the fuck?" Your reaction will be, "There can be only ONE," and you will proceed to draw your own sword and duel with the stranger until one of you has been decapitated. Such is the magic of Highlander.

It is also Christopher Lambert's best non-Rayden role, Clancy Brown's best non-Luthor role, and Sean Connery's best non-Henry Jones Sr./James Bond role.

The 1985 Highlander movie is legitimately good. The other movies failed to capture the "magic" it had, 'cept for endgame which i consider a glorified Tv episode of the series.

Watch. Now.

Yes the queen soundtrack was excellent and became a trademark for Highlander, and the tv series used it a lot too.

I agree the season boxsets were always hella expensive, about $160 per season if i remember.

The original is my one of my favorite 80s fantasy movies behind only Excalibur, Conan the Barbarian, and The Empire Strikes Back. The sequels suck but the TV show and the anime were good.

Highlander was a documentary, and the events happened in real time.

Yeah the Tv series was great. An expert swordmen i think was in charge of the fights too, so the battles were aways kickass.

I remember watching when i was younger and REALLY looking forward to the big fight at the end of each episode.

agreed!

i really liked how it wasn't some shitty series that had like...villain of the week atmosphere. It actually had solid story telling and continuity.

highlander basically exists in the form of Highlander 1, the TV series, and possibly the anime and End Game...possibly.

2,3,Source, Raven DO NOT EXIST. DO NOT.

When I was thirteen, "Princes of the Universe" was my favorite song of all time, and "Highlander" was one of my favorite films ever. However, re-watching it a few years ago, I realized "Highlander" was an otherwise average film with some excellent quotes, good acting (Sean Connery, Christopher Lambert), a very memorable villain, and one of the greatest soundtracks ever.

However, the story and action itself were typical, largely average 80s fare.

first highlander is not overrated nor has it every been.

the rest are.

4's saving grace is donnie yen

the anime is dope and feels like a good highlander film in the art style of aeon flux. fuck the grumpy japanese director who is bitching about the edits..the edits werent big and made them feel more like a highlander film..shits still on my comp after like 4 months. no movie stays on here that long.

I only saw a bit of the first Highlander long ago, but can anybody fill me in on why the majority say the sequels were horrible?

I watched them all, and they were just cheesy and predictable, with poor action scenes. One particularly annoying thing was how Duncan McCloud, after beasting at the end of the last film, inexplicably loses all of his powers and abilities at the beginning of the sequel.

It has an almost junky feel to it, very fuzzy and dark, but it's so distinctive. There's no other era of film that feels quite like it. It's one of those qualities that jumps out and makes an impression in your mind.

why you shouldnt watch the sequals:*according to the second movie they are aliens. *all other movies disregard the second movie therefore theres no point in watching it. *the tv series only really talks about the first one. *so pretty much what Im trying to say: watch the first one, if you like it watch the tv show, when done watch "highlander:endgame".

Don't mean to be rude dude, but just pop the DVD in or whatever format you have and watch the movie. It's not like you have to pay movie theater prices and feel duped cause the shits so old. The time spent asking us could be time spent watching.

I have not seen Highlander in a while. Cinematography in the 80s varied a lot so may you give another example of "80s cinematography" so I may know what you are talking about?
