View Full Version : Top 3S players in Japan, currently?

RockTakane

I was looking up YouTube matches to try to find the best current Japanese players for certain 3S characters and study their technique/strategy. I'm mainly concerned about 3 characters. Offhand, I can't think of any well-known Elena players: perhaps because none exist? Who're the current best Dudleys, if Fujiwara and Kokujin retired [Jima, 178, Hong (AU player though)]? The best Ryu is Ruu, Vanao, or formerly Georgia? Any info regarding players would be appreciated.

Lets show RX, Aruka, Deshiken some love. Those dudes have such depth in there game its morbidly depressing the level it shows others to be at, even expert players.

No love for Roshi at Yang?

Roshi's Yang is better than KO's.It will take forever to find the video, but I do recall Roshi demolishing KO in a mirror match.

Roshi has been playing Yang for a while now,KO just got away from Yun to start playing with Makoto and Yang about year and a half ago at the most?

^ I know you said in your opinion, but surely Roshihikari deserves a mention for his Yang?

Edit: Beaten to it by Biolink.

hehe it's like Remy doesn't even count as a character. And seriously, NOBODY over there is known for playing Elena seriously?

Also, I don't believe for one second that there are any competitive players who consistently pick Sean.

1st, one match doesn't mean anything, especially in a game like 3s, which is played with a lot of mixups. A few bad choices and you get creamed.

2nd, it is wrong to think that you can say who's the best yang player just by watching mirror matches. What about all the other matchups ?

Best Remy I am thinking is Pierrot. There is also Shmaonji, and Take.

@ Professor Jones

You are right, which is why I will just say outright that Roshi has a better Yang than KO.I am not saying that Roshi is a better overall player than KO,but Roshi has been using Yang alot longer than KO,and honestly I can't think of any better way to compare their Yang's other than to search for every video against top players, with them using Yang, and then compare the results. The alternative would be to have them Mirror Match 50 or so times, and if one guy jumps out far ahead then you ,make your analysis

Sean P. plays Sean as his main. He was on a team for this or last year's SBO I think, and yeah I haven't seen any prominent Elena players. Combofiend's the only one I can think of, and even then he plays Ken half the time.

roshihikari is still a better YANG player, he knows more character specifics for sure. and mirror matches show how much you know about your character vs the other player. experience helps a lot but by playing that character you should have all the knowledge to win in that matchup

I’m having computer probs, so I’ll try to make this quick.

THANKS for everyone’s input, and I agree with 99% of what’s been said, but I’d like to make a few suggestions if the following might be actively playing right now.

Akuma – Junin
Chun – Tokido, Koshun, Rikimaru
Makoto - Izu
Necro – Uni
Urien – Senaka, Messatsou, Ushi
Yun – Boss, Mester (who’s Yuki? lol)

I forget the names of another good Ibuki and another good 12.

I forgot about MOV and I only saw ONE good YT vid so far with Elena doing well but I dunno if it’s still online. I think the player beat a Urien. Combofiend also uses Yun and sometimes Ken indeed, but I heard he uses Oro? BuffOtaku is the other good Elena but I don’t think either of them play anymore L

Is Totsuka/EroticTeacher as good as the others? I NEVER saw him win a match that’s on YT, I think. Is Ichiro good?

Deshiken’s pretty good, then? I saw YT matches of Nacchan and Mokomokofu (sp?), but I don’t know them that well. Georgia plays Ken now but used to use Ryu?

I only recently found out about Spellmaster J and Thanatos.

JR Rodriguez whoops me (oddly enough, I use Elena against him, or maybe Dudley to win sometimes). I showed him some Jiro YT matches and he wasn’t impressed, and I also don’t think I could have a harder against an Akuma than against JRR lol

KO could still be the best Yun but he isn’t an active Yun player (taking a break?).

Sean is the character that doesn’t count! jk lol. Some still say he’s better than Q though.

Actually from recent vids it seems KO uses Makoto normally. He uses SA2 and 1 when the matchup requires it. Haven't seen him pull out SA3 in a while. I'd like to see KO's Yang though..

That sounded very dirty.

kashi(red ken player) is a very very aggressive ken user who qualified for SBO, the ground shakes when you watch him play in real life.

shimono(green urien player) is also a good player who qualified for SBO, he s THE funniest player i ve ever met in my life.

also there was a team that came from outside the tokyo area that faced RF's team first round, a brown urien, a chun and gouki, they were also good, never spoke with them but they were really polite, especially the urien player.

Problem with Elena is that most of her cool stuff isn't that practical. Cool doesn't necessarily mean something you can make much use of in a serious match. Most of her specials aren't really worth using or lead into anything damaging unless you EX them. Even when you have super meter it's not like Chun where you have a ton of options to land super. c.MP is the one poke she has that is readily confirmable into super and that can be blocked or parried high and low. In a tournament situation you pretty much just run the b+HK, c.MP and a couple other random pokes along with kara throws and ticks. You just take advantage of her solid pokes, special move gimmicks and throw pressure.

Also how do you go from playing Elena quite nicely to not being that good in a paragraph? LOL. Not trying to be a hardass or anything.

cept 1, no one was talking to you and you hopped in with bs. 2, he didn't ask for people to randomly name drop good japanese players they like, he asked for good ryu, dud's and elena players.

KO plays none of those, neither does any japanese player that has won evo. why bring evo up in the 1st place? I doubt you're even in any position to be poking fun at other chances of winning, or am I mistaken?

And really I was actually agreeing more with the cribbing tactics comment. People nowadays seem morbidly afraid to find their style and merely try and X-copy the japanese.

People know there's a list of Japanese players in the 3rd Strike General Strategy forum? If you're stumped for names check there and search youtube.

I reckon d's Dudley is coming on very strong as a top spot contender, especially after the vacuum Kokujin's retirement left. There's a very recent GAME41 2on2 match I uploaded where he gives Yakkun (a very decent Yun) a fair slapping.

Sod it, last match in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUvaVt4HdME

Rocklee got it it right. I'm just tired of people watching vids and going "Aww man imma do that next time" fuck that, play your own way don't go ripping off other people. "Studying" vids is retarded. I mean, watching a cool match when some crazy shit goes off is cool but when you start trying to copy shit that others have done it's just straight stupid(unless it's some simple shit like strong, fierce, shoryu). Honestly, that's some scrub shit. Get some comp(or create it, whatever the case may be) and take your lumps like a man/woman/???.

So why are u in here? Was the thread starter talking to u? I wasnt even talking to u. Yes he asked for good Ryu, Dud and Elena players, and it would most likely to be Japanese... even if not, look at the thread title maybe?

It seems like anyone bringing up any good Japanese players is essentially "riding their dick", I am sure if a non-Japanese wins Evo, ppl will talk about him too on how good he is. If someone asks in Japan "who has the best Sentinel" and someone replies "Probabaly Justin Wong or Sanford" OMG damn Japs are riding American dicks!!! And that doesnt sound stupid to u?

Actually I placed at both Evo I have been to. That means not only I am good, I know how much better the Japanese are, its natural to use the best players as a reference to play the game, but it seems like a jeolousy issue with u guys.

No, It's dick riding when you aren't asked about certain players but you bring them up anyway telling everyone how great they are. Which is essentially what everyone one the first page save 2 people.

COOL. I see some great posters are here. Thanks for the info/suggestions, and thanks so much to those supporting YouTube--putting up vids or being the highlight of those vids.

I'm learning about cool new players all the time lol...I had no idea who they are cos some are very new, I guess.

I honestly was interested in a few characters and who are the top JP guys for those characters but that's just for the MOMENT and I've been looking in general for top players since I don't know the JP players as well as the U.S. players and I'm looking for inspiration to learn new characters. I'm by no means that good but I'm VERY lucky to be able to go to ffa for 3s every now and then.

I thought that maybe I should focus on a few JP player requests and I'm glad to see the discussion has expanded to include more characters/players. I personally was looking to former/retired Elena players in the U.S. (if they're retired?) cos I didn't know/remember any JP Elena players. I also like seeing the variety of match-ups in vids just as having variety in actual play.

Honestly: everyone here has contributed and I'm glad everyone's been so helpful. I'm gonna check YT again like SuicidalGrandpa since I didn't realize D was in fact 1 of the new, good Dudleys, and he's 1 of my 2 best characters I use :) It's all about mix-ups and zoning/being in your optimum range, to win! ~N
