Is it loud enough for anyone else to hear?

Then it's too fucking loud. Have some consideration for people who are in school to learn.

...seriously.

but the walls in my dorm are paper thin and you can pretty much hear everything going on in the hall anyway.... so i dunno if that changes anything.

Heaven forbid someone may want a little quiet time, or even to sleep. There's "having fun" and there's "being an inconsiderate ass". Learn to discern between the two.

No matter how universally lovable you think your taste in music is, there is going to be somebody--probably a lot of people--in earshot who do not want to fucking hear it, and they will be very irritated that some jackass (you) elected to make himself the official DJ of Buttfuck University Hall. Not only do I advise turning it down, I advise using headphones.

Really, have you ever been trying to catch some Z's or get a few minutes to yourself, only to be annoyed by loud kids in the neighborhood or some cunt who needs to replace the muffler on his 1994 Taurus? You, my friend, would be the cunt in this situation.

It's too loud when the guy next door complains that he's trying to screw his boyfriend, but your beats are messing up his rhythm.

it's not after 11 bro, and i don't know of anyone on this floor that goes to sleep before 1am.

Plus, i have to turn it down at 11 anyway due to school rules.

This is the truth. Last year I lived next to this guy that was just the biggest fucking douche on the planet. I'm sorry, but I don't want to hear your shitty music at 3:00 AM when I have class at 9:00 the next morning. That's just rude. I stood in the hall and bitched him out a few times before I finally went to the RA. I never found out what kind of a fine he got, but he stopped doing it shortly after that.

For me, I never cared what the hell people did during the day. I never study in my room, so during the day I don't care if anyone around me is playing music loudly... chances are that I am, too. I never go over the top (IE no one can hear my shit playing from the hallway), but the walls here are thin, too, and the people living next to me might be able to pick up some of my music. When it starts to roll around midnight, though, is when you need to show some consideration. I have surround sound speakers and a big subwoofer, too, but when it starts to get late I break out the headphones.

Just because you don't know of anyone that goes to sleep before that time doesn't mean that there isn't anyone. Plus you never know when someone else has a big exam that they either want to study for or get plenty of sleep before. The biggest problems stem from when some ass-hat decides that they aren't bothering anyone when they don't fucking know.

I'd keep it to a minimum. You've gotta be able to hear your own music and enjoy your time in your dorm room. I mean you are paying to live there and it's your space, but so is everyone else.

I hated it when people blasted their music so loud that you couldn't think. Contrary to popular belief people do study and there is nothing worse than hearing "This is why I'm Hot" 40 decibels above too fuckin' loud, when you are trying to write a paper on Enlightenment Philosophy.

If people can hear it, when the dorms are full and classes are going on, then it's too loud. For now, keep it moderate.

personally i don't see a problem blasting it any time before 11, if people are studying and wish for me to turn it down then thats fine.

I have bose headphones as well, so after 11 i don't need to worry about bothering people.

<crys>... lol

i was asking this question because simply i wanted people's opinion on the matter, me KNOWING that it could be a problem or knowing that blasting music isn't the best idea wasn't the point of this. I knew the basic answer but i wanted people to tell me some points of view on the matter, and not just accept that i shouldn't play my music loud some times.

I always hated that when I had a dorm. It sucks when you wanna catch a nap since you were up all night b/c assholes blast that shit in the parking lot all night long (how is that fun anyway:confused:). It's really annoying. I say it should be loud enough to hear if like someone's walking by your door and they can hear but not be able to make out every single word just the melody. That's reasonable. Save that loud stuff for when you're getting it on:lol:

I'm living next to some douches right now. They tried to blast their music at 6 in the fucking morning on a WEEKEND. I felt like walking into their house,, punching them in the face, and destroying their stereo (especially when the volume went up after I kindly went over to ask them to turn it down - they didn't answer the door, I just heard a voice say something and the volume went up). I could only call the cops on them, but here in base housing, it's a big deal. You can get kicked out for something like that. I don't mind the guys having parties on Friday or Saturday night, but when it's 6 in the morning? Come on.

It not like he gonna be bumping the whole time... I dunno bout you guys but ... when I was in the dorm it was basically just for sleep.. cause I was always out partying and what not hell college should be fun

You just said it yourself. "When in the dorms, there for sleep". Keep the party AT THE PARTY.

Man, we had this asshole on my floor my floor that would blast his huge fucking stereo as loud as he possibly could. When people would ask him to turn it down, he would turn it up to show how childish he was. So I talked to the maintenance guy and after I bribed him he got me a copy of the key to the fuse box and showed me which ones went to his room. Having power in your room is a privilege, not a right.

also, i'm not to the point where shit will get stolen, and if someone stole from me and they were from my floor...

w/e though, i'm not blasting it often, an hour or less a day is about all i'd do it for. Usually people are in classes between 12-2 anyway which is usually the only time i'm in my dorm minus sleeping.

Man, that shit pisses you OFF. One time, the fucks next door were playing drunken football outside of my bedroom window at 3 in the morning. I went outside to ask them to stop, and they apologized, but did it again next weekend. I chewed them out again, and a few weeks later the shit with the stereo in the morning happened. That was the last straw. Cops came over and I've not had a problem with them since.

And even WORSE, they've got a baby in the house being exposed to that loud garbage. Fucking techno at 6am sounds like an alarm clock going off.

This is a HORRIBLE idea. The bass is what will really go through the walls. There have been times where I could hear the bass from people living on floors above me, even when I couldn't hear the rest of the music. My subwoofer has a dial just for the bass, and I usually have that shit as low as I can tolerate it just so I don't annoy the fuck out of everyone around me.

Yeah, the guy living next to me last year didn't stop at just music, either. He and one of his asshole friends would always play video games at 3 - 4 in the morning, too. That wasn't a problem until they had close games and started screaming at each other. Just thinking about it now makes me angry.

Coincidentally, I live in the same building that I lived in last year. I switched rooms, though, because I was worried about the possibility that the guy living next to me would stay in the same room. I went over there last week and I'm fairly certain he's still there. If I hadn't switched rooms, I would probably be going berserk right now.

Don't do something that would annoy you if you are somebody else(That makes no sense at all).

If you have ever thought

"Turn that FUCKING MUSIC DOWN!!!"

While studying or chillin in your room

Best believe that there is also somebody in the dorms with a similar mindset.

You really don't need your music cranked to full volume.Just enough so that you can hear it,and maybe with a pinch of bass assist, but you annoy people if you can hear it and you are down the freaking hallway

If you already know the basic answer, and you already know that blasting music isn't the best idea then WTF do you want? If you're too stupid to realise that your loud music may disturb other people then you got shit for brains. Fortunately i have an actual brain and not just a bunch of loose shit in my head. Having loud music while everyone is in class or not around is being a douche how?

Where do you get off saying i expect a specific type of reply to this type of shit? If you don't have the common sense to grip that people have an understanding that people have different points of view and different reactions to different topics in life weather it is in an actual conversation or over message boards or chat rooms on the internet...

I'm just going stop myself because i don't want to start an argument on the internet. It's pointless and futile for both of us, especially to argue over intelligence. I have nothing against you so there is no need for random flaming back and forth.

I wont blast music unless it's between 12pm-2pm or unless NO ONE is around (classes between 12-2)... which does happen on occasion like a few nights ago. I'll just turn my bass up so i can feel (hopefully it wont travel too far) and turn the overall volume to a level which won't go too far (although in this building that's hard)

Since im finally in a decent dorm where people arent playing loud music you have no idea how much sleep im finally getting.

The most annoying thing is people who like to jam music. Even if its music you like when its being jammed by someone else.

and there is no time to be annoying. People sleep at 12-2 as well. you do know that right not everyone has the same schedule

Keep it at a reasonable volume during the day. There are probably some people on your floor that are trying to study, take a nap, read, etc. so there's no real reason to crank it the whole way. Don't assume everyone's away at class when you decide to blast it. That's just stupid. I'd also switch to headphones after 10pm.

How do you keep making these generalizations, though? I don't think there has EVER been a time when I could say that "no one was around" except for when I came here two weeks before the semester started to work on campus. People have classes at all different times and you never know when someone is trying to study or snag a nap. I also really feel the need to repeat that keeping your volume low but turning up your bass is a terrible fucking idea. The bass will travel more than anything else. I may sound like I'm being a douche, but trust me that you don't want to be "that guy" which everyone hates for being incosiderate.

I'm the same way. I don't understand how people can be so obnoxious and not understand how NOT to be disruptive. It's like being in a quiet doctor's waiting room and someone decides it's a good time to test out all of their ringtones. Or being that ass that blasts out music from his cell phone on a quiet bus. I'm glad I went to school years before cell-phones became riddled with mp3 features.

I'm sure it's nice to TRY to be in your own world with "I don't care what people think of me" (usually the people that say that the most are actually the most self-conscious people you'll ever meet) but no one cares that you're out of your house and you've got something to prove to the world.

Like you said, similar to the "courage" vs. "stupidity" issue, there's a very fine line and you've got to be smart enough and *gasp* considerate enough to know which side of the line to be on.

For me it was mostly about the time rather than the volume.
If there was some party going on in the dorm there wasnt much you could do except go up there yourself and have fun.

If there's some faggot by himself blasting his shit through the whole dorm in the middle of the night keeping everyone up then hed be likely to catch an ass-whoopin.

Basically, don't blast shit music late at night. I live next to some mexicans who party every fucking weekend. I can't have that shit. Many times have we got into an arguement. But the landlord always takes my side because we have been here for years and they just moved in. A nice treat of "eviction" is all it takes.

Invest in so god damned headphones. I always hate when I go to visit my girlfriend at her apartment at school and some fucktards are playing music loud as fuck. Also, lots of people in college are on weird sleep schedules, so you shouldn't assume everyone goes to sleep at the same time, or even if they did, that they'd want to hear your music over their tv/friends/own music anyway. There's nothing more narcissistic than playing your music too loud.

Wow, what an amazing joke. Even though countless people have said the same thing FOREVER, it never fails to make me laugh. You are a genius, are you a comedic writer of some sort? With that talent, you could go very far in life.

during the day no problem...at night, unless ure throwing a party in ure dorm room that u announced in advance to ure peeps around u to see if their cool with that. If not, then no.

I never enjoy hearing music way too loudly anyways (night clubs piss me off when their music is so loud that its impossible not to yell when ure conversing with peeps)...I especially hate it when peeps over blast their songs in their car. Even worse when the bass sounds like shit.

it's funny. everytime i have people over and the music is loud it's ok, but when we're just talking or watchin a movie with my friends the police is right over. the police used to be in a building right next to mine. they moved now thank god. what was the question again?

WHy do people keep acting as if its ok to blast it during the day? Its not ok period no matter what time of day it is. Instead of wasting money on such a setup, a nice pair of headphones would've worked out just as great.

Is it loud enough for anyone else to hear?

Then it's too fucking loud. Have some consideration for people who are in school to learn.

...seriously.

QFFT!!! Why do I have to listen to your crappy music when i'm paying my money to learn? I could never understand why people would do this. This also applies to idiots playing music on their cellphones for all the hear. It's as if the cellphone is the moden day boombox.

What I like to do when I move somewhere new with my sound system. Is talk to the people around me. Find out whats acceptable and don't go beyond that. You have to be considerate of other people. You woudn't want someone blasting their music all hours of the night when you "need" to sleep. My neighbors are pretty laxed and enjoy most of music I play for the most part. So it's not big deal. When I have my gaming sessions on the weekends, then I pump up the volume. At about 9pm, that's when I keep it low so I don't bother them are their kids.

That night, we were drinking Gatorade.

It was very difficult to explain the concept of "Gator Pong" to these cops.

Word. Sometimes it makes me angry to think of the money I wasted buying surround sound speakers and a subwoofer when I basically never utilize them. For anyone going to college, though, dropping money on that kind of a system is just stupid. In fact, for anyone living in close proximity to anyone else buying that knid of a system is fairly stupid. No one is going to let you use them, so just save the money, buy a solid pair of headphones, and everyone will be happy.
