The show reminded me a lot of cowboy bebop. It was taken something very similar and put a unique spin on it (cowboys/future samurai/future). The plot in both series were never really that original. A lot of the times you could even name the movie that they stole their base story from. But they both end up being pretty cool despite them not being entirely original. I thought Bebop did this a little bit more subtlety, but Samurai Jack was pretty freaking sweet as well.

My main problem with Samurai Jack is that the main bad guy was pretty much owned from the very beginning of the show. He was more of a hit and run bad guy which made him seem really weak. Every time Aku and Jack fought, Jack would own him with ease and Aku would run away again and again. I don't really have a list of top shows, but Samurai Jack is definitely respectable. Shit, it even won a shit load of emmy awards apparently.

I don't know how well their movie will do though as it seems most cartoon movies never do that well. Batman Mask of the Phantasm is arguably the best Batman movie, and it barely made anything on it's theatrical release despite it being an awesome show as well. Another example of that is the Spongebob movie, I know that show was huge but the movie barely made anything either.

1. Jack vs The Lion Bounty Hunters (Dexter's Lab Easter Egg)

2. Jack vs that Ninja in Black and White

This episode was awesome for the sheer fact that Gennedy is so dedicated to making his visuals in sync with his storytelling that it becomes seamless.:lovin:

What made the show great was it's visual style and the constant change of pace and themes. What was the last cartoon you saw where a samurai was at a rave with a sucker in his mouth then was hanging out with Scotsman with a machinegun for a leg?

I just wish it could've been put on a channel where Tartoskovy could have free reign without him having to use Jack to kill robots or chop off robotic limbs all day.

Excellent storytelling, terrific homages, some of the best action of its time and a little humor now and then don't make for a strong show?

You must be talking about a few of the early episodes or a couple of later ones where animation looks to take a hit, because most of the Samurai Jack episodes are far from your description. SO many classic episodes and outside nearly all of them usually being action filled, each of them was unique. The episode with the Ninja robots is different from the one with the Lion hunters.
