View Full Version : Kazuya and Geese: separated at birth?

Another random thought, concerning two of my favorite fighting game villains.
Feel free to correct my info...

-their PLAYABLE debuts were only about a year apart...Fatal Fury Special 1993, Tekken 1994

-both are characters in SIX canon games

Kazuya
T1,T2,T4,T5,T5:DR,T6
Geese
FF1,3,RB,RB2,96,2006

Don't know if DR is canon or a retelling of T5.
Don't know if KOF 2006 Geese is canon. And, FF:Wild Ambition is a retelling of FF1. Not sure how canon it is...

So, maybe they're both in FIVE canon games.

-both characters have young and old versions

-both are gangst- er...uh..."businessmen" in charge of large, internationally known, CORRUPT organizations.

-both have primary costumes that have changed very little over the past 15 years (Geese -> orange pants, Kazuya --> white pants)

-when not wearing said costumes, both wear expensive powersuits. And, both work them VERY well.

-both are murderers (Geese---> Jeff Bogard, Kazuya --> Eddy Gordos dad)

-both are "Disney villains"...completely evil with no redeeming qualities whatsoever.

-both have rivalries with loud-mouthed, blonde-haired Americans that punch REALLY hard (Geese -> Terry, Kazuya --> Paul)

-both have been behind the kidnappings of innocent women (Geese-->Yuri Sakazaki, Kazuya--> Michelle's mother)

-both have a habit of moping around with arms crossed, and mumbling insults at people. And, Kazuya's maniacal laugh in his T4 ending is remarkably similar to Geese's laughing winposes...especially in KOF2006. Actually, all of Geese's KOF 2006 intro's and winposes could easily be used by Kazuya.

-both like to call opponents "pathetic"

-both tell opponents to "die!" after beating them.

-both like holding opponents in the air by the throat with one hand (that's really hard to do...especially to Marduk and Franco Bash)

-both rose to power through attempted murder (Geese-> Jeff Bogard, Kazuya->Heihachi)
Heihachi was lucky/angry/loud enough to survive, though.

-both were overthrown by revenge-driven opponents who were angry at the above mentioned murder attempts.

-after being overthrown, both were replaced by blood relatives. (Geese-->half-brother Krauser, Kazuya-->father Heihachi)

-both fell to their "deaths" from great heights TWICE...yet both are "alive" and playable in the most recent editions of their respective series'.

-both control wind (Geese: Reppu-Ken, Kazuya: Wind God Fist)

-both control electricity (Geese: Thunder Break, Kazuya: Electric Wind God Fist)

-both have had inexplicable "relations" with angelic, otherworldly women who have since disappeared mysteriously.

-both have sons who were trained and guided by their worst enemy. (Geese's son was trained by his nemesis Terry Bogard, Kazuya's son was trained by his nemesis Heihachi)

-both have sons who hate them with a passion...yet, begrudgingly fight with a similar style. (Geese -> Rock, Kazuya -> Jin)

-both have sons with wings.

-both have sons who were on the verge of murdering a blood relative...only to be stopped by the possibility that...gasp...mother is still alive! (Rock almost kills Uncle Kain, but stops when Kain suggests that Mother Marie is alive. Jin almost kills Grandpa Heihachi, but is suddenly stopped by visions of Mother Jun)

-both have sons with demons within...both have sons trying to resist the evil legacies of their fathers...both have sons who eventually succumb to that evil. (Rock joins Kain in his Garou ending, Jin goes frickin' ape-spit in T6)

AND, last but not least...

-both have SUPERPOLICE sniffing around their organizations (Hon-Fu and Lei Wulong...both Jackie Chan wannabes.)

The best thing about all these similarities is that they don't seem intentional. I mean, there are millions of Ryu clones out there...Bruce Lee wannabe clones...Chun-Li clones...and the imitation is usually obvious. But, Geese and Kazuya? I don't think SNK or Namco even knew the other existed. SNK was all about Capcom, while Namco was busy fighting with Sega VF. The two companies aren't on the same wavelength.

It's as if Geese and Kazuya independently developed into the same character, without any guidance at all. Like fate...

And, it looks like their sons inherited the path of similarity...

Hope Garou 2 comes out so we can see if this theory holds water...

What do you think?

EDIT:
-both have large, distinguishing scars
credit: Are_you_okay?!

-both have half/step brothers that don't care for them much (Geese -> Krauser, Kazuya -> Lee)
credit: Are_you_okay?!

-both have Super Seiyan versions of themselves (Geese -> Nightmare Geese, Kazuya -> Devil Kazuya)
credit: Dark Geese (of course)

Don't Geese and Kazuya both have scars? And also both have disgruntled step/half-bro's.

Geese has been around since FF1 though.

So basically Kazuya almost homaged Geese as a gangsta, although for real I liked how when Tekken 1 came out, he looked like a more hot blooded than usual but still 'Ryu' or 'Akira' main character and the next game old boy was the devil himself.

His pops however is definately paying respect to Geese in his later attire.

yeah i was about to say that geese was since fatal fury 1 not fatal fury special!!!

they are both too cool,

"Stolen!" (in NBA Jam announcers voice) I'm adding these to the list...

And, BTW, I said Geese's PLAYABLE debut was in FF Special. I know his overall debut was FF1, but he wasn't playable...at least not in the arcade version I have (FF:Battle Archives Vol 1...pick it up, people). He was playable in the Genesis and SNES versions, which came out the same year as FF Special.

They surely refer to the same Japanese myth.
For example the child thrown into a cliff by his father to measure his strenght that came back looking for revenge is a typical japanese tale.

It's almost creepy:

Step 1: Both characters are the final boss of a fighting game. Both characters were knocked off a ledge to their supposed deaths
(Geese FF1) ------ (Kazuya T2)
|
|
V
Step 2: Because of their supposed deaths, both characters were absent in the sequel
(Geese absent from FF2) ----- (Kazuya absent from T3)
|
|
V
Step 3: Both characters made their playable, non-boss returns in a NON-CANON dream match sequel. These sequels are made up of characters from the previous two games of the series, however both games are missing THREE characters.
(Geese -> Fatal Fury Special contains every character from FF1 and 2 except for THREE: Hwa Jai, Richard Meyer, and Michael Max) ----- (Kazuya -> Tekken Tag contains every character from T2 and T3 except THREE: Marshall Law, Original King, Original Kuma)
|
|
V
Step 4: Both characters make their playable, CANON returns in the next two sequels.
(Geese -> FF3, FF: Real Bout) ----- (Kazuya -> T4, T5)
|
|
V
Step 5: Both characters appear in a NON-CANON upgrades to the previous game
in which characters from previous sequels make grand returns
(Geese -> FF Real Bout Special features the return of Krauser, Blood, Tung, etc.) ----- (Kazuya -> T5: Dark Resurrection features the return of Armor King and Eddy as a stand alone character)
|
|
V
Step 6: Both characters appear in a CANON sequel containing Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan wannabes
(Geese -> FF: Real Bout 2 featuring Cheng Shin Zan and Hon Fu) ----- (Kazuya -> Tekken 6 featuring Bob and Lei Wulong)

RB2 wasn't canon though, the FF canon is -

FF1 >> FF2 >> FF3 >> RB1 >> MOTW

RB2 was a upgrade of RBS, essentially making it another dream-match type game, although Geese appeared in a toned down form and not his "Nightmare" form has he did in RBS/DM before it, he's still canonically dead/MIA.

I always thought Geese and Heihachi had more in common though, namely with those big parachute pants, but I can see Geese and Kazuya having plenty in common as well for the reasons you stated above.

actually if you hadnt noticed tekken is like a 3D kof, and virtua fighter is a 3D street fighter

tekken and kof have many main character candidates. while vf and sf both have ryu and ken (akira and jacky)

Actually, I'd say the reverse...Tekken and KOF have only two or three mains, while SF and VF have several mains.
Tekken has been all about the Mishimas since the beginning. Look at Law and Paul nowadays for proof of that. They've been reduced to scrubs. (Heck, Kazuya and Paul used to be Ryu and Ken...but then they quickly developed into Geese and The Duck King, respectively) KOF has mostly been about Kyo...even when he was "phased out" for a while with K' and Ash, he was always involved somehow.

But, Ryu, in spite of his status as SF's icon, is really only the main guy in SF1...after that there's important stuff going on all over the canon: Bison, Dolls, Chun-Li, Rose, Charlie, Guile, Alex, Gill. Ryu is almost a secondary character after SF1.
In VF, different people are winning the tournament all the time for different reasons. I think Akira didn't even win VF1. So, ironically, the game with the most multi-dimensional storyline is a game criticized for its lack of storyline...

However, your comparison of SF to VF does ring true in some regards...Akira -> Ryu...Jacky -> Ken...Pai -> Chun-Li...Jefferey -> Zangief. No doubt, that was intentional on Sega's part...

And, your comparison of KOF to Tekken definitely rings true...that's basically the thesis of this entire thread.

Almost correct. Wild Ambition replaces FF1 in the canon. Instead of falling from a building, Terry beat the everloving fuck out of Geese at the end of the tournament. Got messed up so bad that everyone thought he was dead, which still explains why he didn't show up in FF2.

Although, Geese falling from a building is definitely the cooler ending. Just not twice (at least to me).

What I don't get about that is the roster. FF1 and FF:WA have totally different rosters. So which was correct? Was Yamazaki in the first KOF tourney, then? And, Mr. Karate? And, Mai? Because, if Wild Ambition replaced FF1, the answer would be yes...and that's weird...

And, I could have sworn that Real Bout Special was non-canon and Real Bout 2 was canon...(titles with "Special" in FF land usually signify non-canon dream match don't they?)

The_Dragon

In VF, the character who wins the tournament is selected by which character was used by the champion of the last big tournament for the previous game. So, Lau won VF1, Akira won VF2, Kage won VF3, and Kage/Shun tied in VF4, due one character winning SBO and the other winning the big Sega tournament, if I recall correctly.

Also, Tekken really does only care about the Mishimas. Paul used to be a true rival for Kazuya and a star of the series, but as time went on he became less and less important, and the same goes for every other supporting character in the cast. Essentially, all that matters now is the Mishimas, and the only way another character has any importance whatsoever is if their storyline in some way relates to the Mishimas.

...that's a good question.

*checks Wikipedia*

The story of this game does not replace Fatal Fury 1 because they both represent the same story and series of events. It's just that not all the events/characters of FF are depicted in FFWA, and vice-versa.
...wait what? I think I just missed something, because I have no idea what was just said. Perhaps FFWA only changes Geese falling off a building and replaces it with BUSTA BEATDOWN! Or perhaps both happened, but that seems rather unlikely to me for some reason.

And, I could have sworn that Real Bout Special was non-canon and Real Bout 2 was canon...(titles with "Special" in FF land usually signify non-canon dream match don't they?)

Also from Wikipedia:

In "ALL ABOUT SNK Taisen Kakutou Game 1991-2000" (ISBN 4-88554-677-X), the game is specifically stated to have no relevant story in the Fatal Fury universe, and the events depicted therein are not canon.
Well, at least there's a clear answer to one of your questions.

That's strange...introducing new characters in a non-canon game...and then NEVER using them again in the series.
So, Xiangfei, a character introduced BY the Fatal Fury series has never been in a single canon Fatal Fury game? She was in RB2 (non-canon) and FF:WA (psuedo-canon). I mean, does the girl even exist?!

Thank goodness for KOF 99...
