Hmmm I wonder if this is where to post this...
Just wondering what mangas people are currently reading / what mangas are your all-time favorites.
Personally, I'm currently reading:
Bowling King
Katekyo Hitman Reborn
Airgear
One Piece
Blade of the Immortal
Naruto SPD
Taichi

Yes, this is where to post this.
I really need to finish all the series I've started.
I'm gonna sit down and make a list of the books I have, the series I want to complete, and the books I wanna get rid of.

I'll get in on this.
Currently Reading:
One Piece-The best manga out there. Very unique and constantly action packed. Alot of people are missing out by not giving it a chance.
Naruto-The story is hit and miss alot, and gives too much love to Sasuke at times. Been pretty good as of late though.
Bleach-Pretty consistent with story, but I can't wait till the current arc is over. It's been dragging on too long.
Full Metal Alchemist-Hella good. 10 times better than the anime. Read it.
Berserk-It's great, but it...just...takes...too...long...to...get...new... chapters...
Gantz-After Kurono left the group the quality goes down, but the current arc shows promise again. Very entertaining.
Hajime No Ippo-Awesome. Even better if you're a boxing fan.
Blade of the Immortal-I'm WAY behind on this, but I highly doubt it's worse than it was before. Gotta catch up ASAP.
Favorites:
Rurouni Kenshin-As a whole, the manga is better than the anime just because the third arc isn't animated, and the Reflection OAV doesn't do it justice.
Gunsmith Cats-A very run and gun, crime based manga. High quality and highly recommended.
Battle Angel Atila-if you seen the OAV in the day, you should read the rest of the story since that only covered the first arc or so.
Masion Ikkoku-very old school comedy/romance manga, and the only one of it's kind. Worth reading, especially if you've had a hard life with school/women lol.
I need more recommendations. Is Air Gear really that good?
I read lots of manga but I'm very far behind on lots of things, when manga started being released as books and came out monthly I fell really far behind. Personal favorites are Hokuto No Ken AKA Fist of the North Star, Rurouni Kenshin, Death Note, Dragon Ball, Ranma 1/2, Naruto, One Piece, Ranma 1/2 and Berserk in random order.
Currently I'm reading King of Bandit Jing, Full Metal Alchemist, Golgo 13, Flame of Recca, Busou Renkin, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and Berserk, but I am really far behind on all of these works minus Berserk where I'm caught up to what's out in English. I read whatever is in Shonen Jump so fairly up to date with whatever is in there.
I got into History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi after the video game came out. The artwork and the character designs in the manga are really good but it's not available in English of course. I like the anime a lot too. The anime started late last year and is ongoing, I hope it won't be too long before there's an English release of the manga and the anime.
Heh, I swear I'm the only person who likes both the Rurouni Kenshin and anime the same, even the final OVA. I just see them as different things entirely and always have. I could care less what happens to Himura Kenshin, Sagara Sanosuke shines in the third season and in the Reflection OVA ha ha Sanosuke's the man no matter which reality you follow. Even in the RPG video game he rules. He is where my net name and current avatar come from, my favorite anime / manga character of all time.

Bleach is the only thing I'm currently reading that I'm also up to date on. Most manga I have I'm really far behind on such as Fullmetal Alchemist and Cyborg 009 (I'm not even sure if 009 is still in print).
I've read all of Ruroni Kenshin and the manga adaptation of Rahxephon. (Thats only 3 volumes long though.)

Lupin is here stateside courtesy of Tokyopop. Even though they suck, it's still a fun manga to read.
I wish Tokyopop would die already.

I really like the first Ghost In The Shell. It's a pretty far out science fiction story and I liked seeing how it inspired the first movie. The story is more philosophical and science fiction-ish than the movie, but there's still a plot you can follow.
The second Ghost in the Shell manga out-Filthed the Filth in terms of obscurity to me, though. Not that I have to understand everything I read, but some of the stuff in the GitS2 was way beyond my ken. And it was hard to follow the plot, which made it tougher to enjoy, because the whole thing just seemed like a vehicle for the author to espouse his ideas, theories, and philosophies on artificial intelligence.
-----
Stuff I have read fairly recently:
Project X: Cup Noodle - The Project X series is basically a historical account of different businesses. Sounds kind of boring, but this book was really well-crafted. It made the story of how the Cup Noodle company rose to prominence interesting. Even though it sounds mundane, there is just this sort of American Splendorish style to the story that makes it captivating. You really get to see the drama in simple human struggles, such as trying to figure out how people back in the day tried to figure out how to package instant noodles.
I also read the first three volumes of Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. The art's pretty incredible. I actually borrowed the whole series from the library. But I just didn't really get into the story, so I didn't finish it. I eventually returned the books by their due date. One of these days, I'll probably go back and try to finish it. If I have nothing else to do.

GTO (Great Teacher Onizuka) is a great read, and a personal favorite. Has about 24-25 volumes and only about 3 slow ones out of the bunch.
Ragnorok was a good one too but the action was too wild and stopped suddenly @ vol. 10.
Pick up GTO if you havent already....NOW

Wellman: is the school days manga just as crazy as the anime?
It is School Rumble. And while I haven't seen the anime, I am guessing from the descriptions of the episodes I have seen they are pretty close if not identical.
School Days was a dating sim game before it became an anime, I don't know if there is a manga for it.
But even though they have similar names and the romance subject matter, School Rumble and School Days are like polar opposites. One is straight comedy with ridiculous stuff and the other is... well you know.
Since there's a manga thread, manga I read this week lol!
Berserk was awesome as always! Finally we get to see the fight between Guts and Serpico, I've been hearing about that since last year.
Not sure if this qualifies as manga or not but I'm just gonna be lazy and mention it here anyway ha ha! I'm a big fan of C.B. Cebulski's X-Men Fairy Tales and Spider-Man Fairy Tales so when I was in the comic shop last week I saw his name on a #1 issue so I decided to check it out. The book was called Compass and it was written by Cebulski along with Akihide Yanagi. Ryusuke Hamamato provided the artwork. Nothing special so far but a fun comic. I was suprised when the Indian girl called the asian girl "Chun Li" mocking her character, hey I didn't think I would find a Street Fighter reference of all things in the comic! I found a random image of the cover online, the indian girl is on the bottom and the girl she called Chun Li is on the top lollerooney!

I'm currently reading Berserk, I'm up to volume 26. My favorite manga aside from berserk are maison ikkoku, Tsukihime, and Death Note. I highly recomend the tsukihime manga, it's got a lot of good action and really good character development. It's far better than the anime in any way imaginable.

I'm currently reading around 92 different series, that's both scanlations and stuff I purchase. Doesn't include stuff I've finished, but most of the stuff I read isn't done anyway so the number would only be a little higher. Since that's way too many to list, I'll just list some of my favs:
Berserk
xxxHolic
Trigun(and Maximum)
Negima
Hajime no Ippo
Genshiken
King of Bandits Jing
Beck
Tenjou Tenge
Mirai Nikki
Vagabond
Ares (Korean manga, check for it in MangaUpdates.com)

Hell yeah, Ares is the best shonen action series out there. No special moves FTW, just all-out fighting.

mangas that everyone should read at least once in his life:
dragon ball - pretty the first decent shonen, everything that came after is inspired by it
rouroni kenshin - actually one of the best samurai manga out without sex and annoying talk, maybe too shonen but that's it
jojo's bizarre adventure - TEH manga for 1-2-3-4-5-6-'7' series, the last one feature a new and 'fresh' cast and a new title, this manga is godlike
one piece - i disliked latest chapter (new enemy=new and shonen techniques) but until there is one of the best shonen out
berserk - until the first eclipse IS the best manga (seinen) ever. latest chapter are awful, miura went back to shonen
I somehow forgot to mention this in my other post. My favorite manga is Eagle: The Making of an Asian-American President. I have never read anything else like it. As a bonus, the translation wasn't very awkward compared to most other manga.

Just read this OK manga titled Smuggler. Start's off cool enough but the art is pretty fucking terrible. Cool story nontheless.

rEAD first Vol. of Geshiken and I'm lovin' it! I think the main reason is cuz they use arcade sticks to play fighting games, which is a rarety in some manga series :D.

I used to get the Bio-Booster Armor Guyver manga when I was younger. I still have most of the ones I got from back then. I never learned how the story finished because the creator went on hiatus at some point in the '90s. I loved the art for all those action scenes, like when the Guyver would charge up his gravity cannon. Those drawings were second only to Ron Lim's Powerblasts.

If you get a chance see if you can check out the new Guyver anime. It's much closer to the manga plus they tossed in a few extra things. Like, they really built up the relationship between Sho and his father. Character designs are by Yoshihiko Umakoshi of Berserk, Grappler Baki (OG Version), Hokuto No Ken AKA Fist of the North Star and the first Street Fighter Zero (Alpha) anime fame. All 6 of the DVDs are out and they ran it on Cable, the Scifi Network I think.

Guyver is one of my favs, the manga is not finished and still on going, some crazy shit happens let me tell you, Agito is just too bad his good his like the wesker of the guyver series lol, he does some mad shit later on in the comics, still my fav character though.
I agree the new series was good and the old one was one of the 1st anime series I watched I was hooked after that.
They really need to redo the movie, not thats theirs anything really wrong with steve wangs movie but with a bigger budget they could really do something great.
It could be a sleeper hit like blade1, all I would ask is that Sho uses those frequency blades every 10 seconds yea chop chop slash.

- Aqua (is there an Aria manga?)
Wow, totally, there was no point to the manga after the end of that arc.
ARIA manga is the first, AQUA is the sequal. ADVmanga picked up ARIA, but they havent' translated beyond volume 3 in over 2 years I believe. Hopefully TP will pick up ARIA as well. Love Kozue Amano's art btw, I have 2 of her artbooks with ARIA and AQUA stuff in it, looks amazing.
Question- At what Vol. does the ShishiOh arc finish at in the Samurai X manga?
18. The Shishio arc ends in that book and the Enishi arc starts in 18 as well.

So a few weeks ago while at Barns n Noble spending my Christmas gift cards I picked up a few Manga. I basically bought all the Street Fighter ones simply because they where SF. So I get home and read RYU Final, dam was that shit hot. I usually take a long ass time to read stuff but that book was so good I ran through reading the rest I bought - Alpha Vol 1 - 2.
Still hungry for more I go back up to Barns n Noble to see what they got. Crap! No other SF Manga, so I start thumbing through the rest of the titles they have. I pick up a copy of Death Note Vol. 1, bad idea. I read it, loved it and this past weekend found my self clearing the shelf of all Death Note Vols. my local Barns n Noble has. Dammit I'm hooked.... What else you guys recommend? I've been reading up on what Manga is available here in the states, do you guys recommend those weekly/monthly Shonen Jump mags?
Shonen Jump is monthly. It's pretty cool since you can check a lot of stuff out but most of the manga in there is really up and running so I'm not sure it's the best point to jump in right now. Though I suppose you can try it out and see which manga you like and which ones you should pick up as seperate volumes to catch up. I'll say one thing, if it wasn't for Shonen Jump having the first volume of Death Note I never would of checked it out. The coolest thing about Shonen Jump is they have lots of interviews with the creators of the manga they carry.
If you like the Ryu Final and the Street Fighter Alpha manga, Studio Udon has also translated the 'Sakura Ganbaru!' manga from the same author Masahiko Nakahira. Both volumes are out now, you can probably find them if you check enough book stores.
There is also a Street Fighter II manga from Masaomi Kanzaki that Udon is translating. It is closer to the original version unlike the previous translation which was edited heavily. Only the first volume of that one is out though. Others have reported difficulty in finding it at book stores, so you may want to try either visiting a comic book shop or trying online.
As for other manga you may want to try, I'm currently reading Berserk which is great, though it's really adult and has some sexual content. Though like Death Note it's not for kids lets say. It takes place during the time of Knights and Kings and it features lots of demons, really hardcore!
You may want to check out Golgo 13 for serious stuff like Death Note. Each story is self contained so you can start at any point with no problems. For a mix of something serious that has plenty of fighting, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a great manga to look into.
If you want stuff that's more lighthearted and has lots of fighting along the Street Fighter manga path you should check out Naruto, Bleach, One Piece, Yu Yu Hakusho (all four of them you can find in Shonen Jump and you can see which ones you like) and Dragon Ball / Dragon Ball Z if you haven't already.
Seriously though there's lots of manga in Book Stores nowadays, you may be better off just flipping through stuff and seeing what you like.

I quit reading manga a while ago because I'm a broke bastard, but I came across $200 worth of gift cards and spent it all on Genshiken, One Piece and G.T.O. If I try downloading it I get distracted by the other stuff on my computer, so I use it for anime and buy manga in book stores. With that said I haven't finished reading it, but try looking up "My Balls", it's pretty damn ridiculous.
Anyone else read Genshiken, I loved the anime and decided to check out the manga to see how it ended, was not disappointed, definitely recommend picking that up.

LOL! Actually a lot of the men and boys that show up are well designed too. And to me Kisara's the hottest girl there and I don't know why since she has no body whatsoever. Eh, maybe it's because she plays handheld games and stuff and seems like she would be a cool character to hang out with.
The anime stopped at episode 50, the end of the Ragnarok arc. That's like the first 10 volumes or something like that...
I like how the fights in the anime are fairly short, one to two episodes and not as dragged out as other shows. Not that dragged out fights are really a bad thing but it's a nice change of pace. Also there's lots of actual knowledge with regards to martial arts in the show and in the manga, lol they had an entire episode on side stepping. The manga is still better since it's more violent, but it's a pretty good series. The animation is kind of standard but it improves during some of the fights scenes. Kenichi vs. Hermit round 2 was pretty dope! I'm only up to episode 38...

EndLeSS8: I didn't know Initial D was still going on. Since I haven't heard of any releases lately I thought it might have just stopped, but I primary watch the anime anyway. I'm new to alot of racing and car terminology, so watching it helps me understand shit better. Hopefully more eps get made eventually.
Gunsmith Cats: Burst v.3 was supposed to be released today, but it was pushed back. I'm pissed.

death note (first half till L...)
I agree man. I just got done reading them all, and I must say the first half is really what sucked me in. The rest was cool, but not the same to me.
Oh well, on to my next manga. Thinking it's gonna be either One Piece or Berzerk...probably both.

I'd figure this is the best place to vent as it relates to manga.
Man, fucking School Rumble is ending. I straight fell in love with the series over the summer and the most recent chapters are all seeming to be leading to the end. To make matters worst, the drama is spiking and I don't want it to end. It has been so great, filled with humor, stupid romance and ridiculous characters. A brother is going to miss it.
God, I don't know how I will survive when One Piece eventually ends. Good thing that should be years away.

I read mostly card captor sakura but even then I got lazy and stopped. I plan on getting back to reading though, along with bleach and other mangas.

I'm quite new to manga so what I don't get is why are they all black and white? It's the one thing I don't like about them.
Of the ones I've read, I really liked Basilisk, lone wolf & cub and Satsuma Gishiden. I hated Bleach though.
I'm currently reading The Yagu Ninja Scrolls.

it's just the way they have been for years.
main reason for this is that most manga out there are serialized in large-volume magazines (typically weekly or monthly) 200~400 pages in size. couple of titles usually receive color spreads for each magazine release, but they are kept to minimal in order to keep the cost of magazine low. also, demanding color out of most of these weekly manga serialization is pretty much impossible on the production side.
also, manga art form in general over the years has cultivated remarkable ways to express light, dark, and "colors" without the use of actual colored inks through various techniques and toner applications.
however, there has been some high-profile all-color projects that has been done in recent years, like "ghost in the shell: man-machine interface" by shirow masamune (which was visually godlike, btw).
tenjho tenge vol. 18 (http://books.shueisha.co.jp/CGI/search/syousai_put.cgi?isbn_cd=978-4-08-877407-7&mode=1) is finally out!
gonna go cop it this weekend

Shoju, in case you didn't there are in fact Black and White comics, like the TMNT comics; only very few issues of the series and Vol. 2 are coloured, the rest is Black and White.
The majority of comics in the entire world are black and white. Seriously. Color comics is really an American thing. Sure, there are color comics in Mexico, Hong Kong and other places but the vast majority of it is still colorless.
Today, I bought vol. 18 of Tenjho Tenge that just came out and vol. 1-4 of Minami-ke

I just picked up and started reading Genshiken. It's a little odd but at the same time very interesting. They even play fighting games in it, and they refer to KoF as CoF..lol.

^They also play KoF XI in the anime and OVA :).
BTW Sano if you're reading this, I heard word that Kenichi anime will get licensed in the US.
got some new mangas today...
ARIA vol. 12
Bincho-tan vol. 3
Minami-ke vol. 5
holy shit. i didn't even realize ARIA ended, since i only kept up as new volumes came out... wtf!! the ending was very nice, but i can't believe that it's over. this has been one of my favorite mangas for the past 3 years or so. T_T
now i'm pretty convinced that there is a high probability of the anime version to wrap up in the current 3rd season (ARIA: The Origination) as well.
the cover (http://ec2.images-amazon.com/images/I/511AfoYMRML._SS400_.jpg) for the new Minami-ke is hilarious. i got the limited edition, which came with a bonus dvd containing the first episode of Minami-ke: Okawari.
