carmelo had better stats in just about every stat (cept for assists per game) and took his team to the playoffs, while cavs did nothing, yet james gets rookie of the year.

so if it was a by the numbers thing, carmelo should've been rookie of the year in 03-04.

if it was a playoff contender thing, carmelo should've been rookie of the year in 03-04.

obviously hype and promotion all come into play, and lebron had shit loads while carmelo couldn't compare in those aspects.

maybe 3+ more assists a game may make him the rookie of the year over carmelo, but nuggets making playoffs with him leading in scoring, leading the team to its first winning season in a decade... if that doesn't get him rookie of the year, i dunno what else he could've done except beat lebron in assists too.

Can somebodyexplain to me what has Nash done to "revolutionize the NBA"? Make a few passes? Run around a lot? I'm confused. Has the NBA changed any rules to stop Steve Nash? I think Houston's got the right coach this time around. I like Jeff Van Gundy, but he needs to take better advantage of his scorers and just let them play. Rick Adelman could guide this team to the WCF at least.

People say that every year, and what happens T-mac miss like 15 games Yao goes missing for like 30 games They get a mediocre record and get stuck at 4th-6th seed and bounce out in the first round. That team can't stay healthy they just can't :/

I wouldn't get to hype about Boston either. Yes they have 3 great players but those 3 are getting pretty old. Maybe they can still push it for a few more years but Basketball is still a team sport and it will take time to build chemistry on the court.

The Rockets need an infinite health plasmid if they're going to do anything this year.

And Boston's at least got a shot at winning their division, which isn't really saying much considering they've only got to worry about the Nets and Raps. I also think Ainge has done a nice job of plugging the gaps with the additions of Posey, House, and Pollard to name a few. They've also got some young names that may be capable of contributing. Their bench isn't as bad as people are making it out to be. You want an example of a team of HOF with a thin bench? Try the '04 Lakers with Derek Fisher and an oft-injured Rick Fox. Boston is in better shape than that.

My prediction: Boston lucks out with an easy postseason bracket, advances to the Finals, and gets edged out by Utah in 7 games.

With Flip Saunders at the helm, I just can't imagine extended post season success ever going for the Pistons. If they couldn't beat the Cavs, and the Cavs got absolutely dominated by the Spurs (and honestly would have been dominated by Phoenix, Dallas, or Utah last year as well)...then I wouldn't really think of Detroit as a contendor any more.

And I honestly believe that Shaq's just fallen off. Now he's just one of the top 10 centers in the league. He's no longer Shaq. And Geo, forgive me, but I just honestly don't think Miami's gotten any better since they won it...and even then, I don't think they could have beaten San Antonio or Phoenix.

Steve Francis isn't going to turn a first round playoff team into a championship team - I really doubt that. So I guess that's banking on the assumption that Houston has always been a title contender. ...which I can understand, but I just don't personally see it.

Again, I'm still doubtful Boston could beat any of those Western teams in a series of 7. But from the East, I'd say Boston and a fully healthy Washington team would be my top two picks to get to the Finals. But I can't honestly see any team from the East beating any of San Antonio/Phoenix/Dallas/Utah.

San Antonio is still the favourite, until further notice. And since Dallas took a step back in the rankings from losing to Golden State, and Phoenix and Utah didn't take a significant step forward...it's still San Antonio on top because that notice hasn't come yet.

I'm not particularly high on the Dallas Mavericks and I'll tell you why. They were abused in the first-round of the playoffs by the Golden State Warriors. It was a 5-game series but they could have easily been swept.

Now when something traumatic happens to a team like that I think they can go one of two ways. Either they can become stronger and more focused then ever from the embarassment. Or they can mope and hide into a shell saying oh woe is me becoming worse as a result. Maybe it's the cynic in me but I'm vouching for the latter scenario with Dallas.

They won 67 games and still couldn't win a championship. Not to mention the 06 finals woes. That just screams snakebit. And honestly when I look at that team they just don't look that good. It's Dirk, Howard and the other guys. They'll probably win 50+games but I foresee a down year overall for the Mavericks.

The whole point was he and Durant had chemistry from growing up and playing together. That chemistry plus the fact both are versatile athletes makes them an ideal 1-2 combination.

Jeff green probably won't start. I'm not saying Wally's skills are polished, but I think its more polished than Green's.

He displayed athleticism in college basketball, but against the nba he's really not that great. If you don't got lightning quick moves in the nba, then you should at least have a jumper or play extraordinary defense. Green is a blend of some of those. I saw him the in the final four game vs Ohio state and when the game was on the line dude couldn't cut it.

At best he's a josh howard. And look how long it took him to get recognized.
And 30 year old players can still play ball.

Unless I'm vastly underrating the rookie talent in Seattle I think that Wally Szczerbiak has a good chance of being the Sonics leading scorer this upcoming season.

In terms of fantasy who has better value. Kevin Durant an unproven rookie (a lot more to it than that I know) going in the third round of drafts or Wally Szczerbiak a consistent 15+ppg scorer going in the 14th round. I don't think their numbers won't be that far off from each other.

Then again I'm one of the few not ready to put Kevin Durant on the pedestal as a basketball immortal right now. Maybe preseason will change that.

actually i'll just say it right here.

draft days for the two H2H leagues will be on a Monday and Saturday at a time to be announced later. c-b will run the monday draft since he's available then. i'll run the saturday draft.

probable draft day for roto league will be a friday.

i'm having fun reading about training camp, but the preseason games haven't started yet. should be next week right? i'm planning on having the friday and saturday drafts probably next weekend or the weekend after.

Unless I'm vastly underrating the rookie talent in Seattle I think that Wally Szczerbiak has a good chance of being the Sonics leading scorer this upcoming season.

In terms of fantasy who has better value. Kevin Durant an unproven rookie (a lot more to it than that I know) going in the third round of drafts or Wally Szczerbiak a consistent 15+ppg scorer going in the 14th round. I don't think their numbers won't be that far off from each other.

Then again I'm one of the few not ready to put Kevin Durant on the pedestal as a basketball immortal right now. Maybe preseason will change that.

You really are underrating their rookies.

McGrady was probably thinner than Durant when he "awoke" in Orlando. The league has made it easier for perimeter guys... we all know this.

Im Off work on Mondays and Tuesdays I get off work early on Sundays around midnight.

Sucks to be broke:sweat: but yeah I actually watched the game Celtics might actually do something this year, KG had a double double but more he threw down some viscous dunks early on, Pierce had an ok game as well, but Jesus didn't have a good game the reason b/c the Raps were covering him pretty good, it's going to be hard to stop this team b/c of the depth they actually might come out of the Atlantic.

The Raps I think will still win the Division again b/c their ball movement and the fact they some pretty good shooters and slashers, I predict them winning the same number of games as last year. Carlos Defino and Jorge Garbosa will have a break out season mark it down.

To Satomiblood, its not JUST about people being in different time zones, Myself and Hoonyo are going what I think is a bang up job keeping up with peoples wants and NEEDS, when it comes to these Fantasy leagues, but what im not understanding is why a person outside of us can't just go one page back to read updates on the leagues.
The NBA Thread is not jumping as much as the MMA Thread, the NFL thread or the Wrestling Thread, so when people come to this thread they are not going 5 or 6 pages back to stay in the loop.
People complaining about the Draft Date and times, yet I have asked three times the past few pages for people to SIGN UP for the League and post your updated availability, post about rules etc.

If people think they are to tired to go a page back to read an updated post by one of the hosts of either of these leagues why should we go 6 plus pages backwards in CLOSED threads to keep them happy...?

Thats the only thing going on right now that is important is fantasy.

Basketball season is darn near not worth watching until the last three weeks before the playoffs UNLESS you have a fantasy league team.
The Top 7 Playoff teams in the Western Conference will pretty much stay the same.
The Top 6 Teams in the Eastern Conference will pretty much stay the same.
Doesn't matter who out of the East makes it each year, they are infearier to the Western Conference, wheter its speed, scoring, or defense, the Western Conference has that all on lock.

So lets talk about injuries.... :confused: No I don't want too, because most of the injuires are in the East from what I read, and in the east you can make the playoffs with barely 49 wins so losing Gil or Bosh for a month won't hurt those teams one bit.

I joined (Living Legends) but I forgot my username and password. I put in random words so I have no way of remembering it either.

I never use Yahoo for anything but I assumed that it would have saved that information like every other site I register for but apparently I was wrong.

I'm not sure what to do now. I think I might be screwed. Maybe you could kick the team out or something and then I'll start over.Or go to the league page and click on my team and tell me my email address. That should help.

I think it would be easy for people to just use their SRK names in the league at least until all the spots are squared away.

Yup... if that's not allowed, I'd prefer the Sunday league. So if someone wants to join yours Cool-Breeze and there isn't a spot, I guess kick me out... but if not, don't worry, I won't be a dead slot. I'm going to play actively in both leagues.

Hoonyo, can you have an odd # of teams in the league? because we divided up 12 per league since we had 24 players who wanted in, not sure if we can have epp1e in for 13...

i never got a response from legendary gokou. to be honest, as long as both leagues are full it's fine. having people join both leagues was unintended, but there's nothing wrong with it as long as everyone can make their drafts. if you're in both, you're free to stay in both if no one else intends on joining.

Well league #2 is full. CB changed his draft time to 7:30 eastern to accommodate more people.
