Lol, why can't we claim Fin Fang Foom? The dude has one of the most blatantly Asian names in comicsdom, he lives in China, and he sports a Conqueror Ming-style goatee. It doesn't matter if they retconned him into an alien being who landed on Earth. He's Asian.

Ha, Clinty's a comic book character now? I checked on the Abomination. He's Russian, and I don't know if we're going to count Eastern Europeans as Asian. But Ultimate Abomination is Chinese. Good call.
Amiko Kobayashi - Japanese. Wolverine's adopted daughter.
Yukio - Japanese. Wolverine's sometime lover and friend. Storm's best friend. Caretaker of Amiko.
Daiken - Half Japanese on his mother's side. Wolverine's son.
The name of Iceman's ex is Opal Tanaka.

You shut your dirty mouth. In return, we acknowledge that you can have Jinx from Pokemon.
Daken (Wolverine's bastard with some random Asian broad. We need to vote on whether it's worth keeping this guy as one of us, seeing as how he's from Daniel Way's Origins comic.)
There's the Great Ten (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Ten)

We don't want 'em!
Additional Asians...
Kaizen Gamorra (The Authority)
Lei-Kung The Thunderer (Iron Fist)
Steel Serpent aka Davos (Iron Fist)
Also, generally they like to cram in a lot of minorities into the international superhero teams, so those are good places to look as well.
Rising Sun (Global Guardians)
Thunderlord (Global Guardians)
Gloss (Global Guardians)
Puck 2 aka Zuzha Yu (Alpha Flight)
Yes, apparently even Puck is stealing our Asian women. Yellow Fever is fucked up for reals.
Also...
- Fu Manchu actually appeared in League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but I don't know if that applies.
- I don't remember if Viper (Madam HYDRA) is Asian or European.
- All the other champions in the current Iron Fist (Fat Cobra, The Bride of Nine Spiders, Dog Brother #1, and Tiger's Beautiful Daughter, and I assume The Prince of Orphans is Asian too) but I don't know if they're too minor to include yet. Like...what's the minimum appearance limit we want here? Like more than five issues or three story arcs?
- Unrelated (I was trying to see if Jason Todd was a halfie) but this thread got me thinking...you know how in A Death In The Family, Jason Todd is going around the world looking for his mother and they narrow it down to like three possible women? And one is like an Israeli (or was it Lebanese?) government agent, one is Lady Shiva who is Chinese, and one is the eventual real mother whose name I have forgotten...but she was like white, right?
So it's like...the world's greatest detective didn't even consider like LOOKING AT JASON TODD and figuring out if he was half Chinese, half Israeli, or half white? Couldn't they have just skipped like more than half of that story if they could have narrowed it down?
Who wrote this? Jim Starlin!?! Come on, man!
...I think that's all I got for now.
That's a pretty good list.

BURGERS BURGERS BURGERS or WHERE AMAZING HAPPENS
Oh right, Egg Fu (aka Chang Tzu Post-Crisis) would qualify as well. Just looking at his Wikipedia page now...holy shit, comics were so racist back then.
I think that's what we're missing in today's world, honestly. More racism. We need to get back to those racist values that once served us so well.

Oh man, I don't believe we forgot Shi. Any other mid 90's Bad Girl Era (ie. Dawn, Barbed Wire, Razor) characters we're forgetting? I completely forgot about the rest of Wildstorm and Image - good looking out, Shengy. Though we forgot Tripli-Kate's twin brother...uh...Tripli-Kate's twin brother.
Are there any major characters in the David Mack Kabuki titles we can include as well? I've never touched any of those. The main character is just called Kabuki, right?

Tripli-Kate's twin brother (Invincible) - need to go back and find his name...
Okay, so this has been bugging me for since the whole five hours ago that I read the entirety of the thread, especially since I thought there were more fans of Invincible, especially ones that had more comics of it than I had.
The girl's name was Dupli-Kate.
Her brother's name is supposedly Multi-Paul.
They're puns.
....
...Also, you kind of obviously messed Nico Minoru's parents. I would count them as characters worthy of the list since they were a part of the Pride. However, you never did specify how many issues someone should be in to "qualify".
Oh, and if we're including Fu Manchu because he appeared in League of Extraordinary Gentleman, then I don't see how we can leave out all the Asian people in Street Fighter by Udon since that's an American comic. (Or is it?)
Random EDIT: I just randomly remembered this for some reason, which is really odd since I've never read a ...whatever Avengers book for the future, but I think that Juggernaut's kid, the one that exists in the same future as Spider-Girl, is half-Asian.
I think his name is J2, but I'm not sure about the half-Asian thing; I'm just assuming that he is because I vaguely recall his mother having black hair (though picture in my head might not even be her) and since Juggernaut's like the biggest white guy out there....
Oh, and speaking of random, from something else I never read, I believe that The Quiz in the Brotherhood of Dada from Doom Patrol is supposed to be a Japanese woman. It's just difficult or impossible to tell due to her germaphobe.

I'm moving AGAINST Indian inclusion. Just for everything else in like real life, they don't get to fit under our "Asian" label umbrella. Get these "South Asian" people out of this thread - MAKE YOUR OWN!
Okay. Any other Asians or Indians have anything to add on this notion? Or shall we just agree that Indians need their own thread?
Oh man, I don't believe we forgot Shi. Any other mid 90's Bad Girl Era (ie. Dawn, Barbed Wire, Razor) characters we're forgetting? I completely forgot about the rest of Wildstorm and Image - good looking out, Shengy. Though we forgot Tripli-Kate's twin brother...uh...Tripli-Kate's twin brother.
Everyone I've added to this list, I've looked up online to verify their Asianness. I can't think of any other Bad Girls we haven't mentioned. Lady Death? She looks white to me. And I always assumed Barbed Wire is white because of that movie. Who the hell is Razor? We don't need her anyway.
Are there any major characters in the David Mack Kabuki titles we can include as well? I've never touched any of those. The main character is just called Kabuki, right?
Yeah, a number of major characters in Kabuki are Asian as well. I've added the most memorable ones to the list. I just figured naming the main character would be enough and we'd be able to figure out the rest by association. A bigger list does make me feel better, though... almost as though I am compensating for something.
Xorn (Though I doubt anyone could say for sure)
Xorn is Jewish.
South Asia is still Asia. The only place the southern region of a continent should be completely disregarded is America, where everything below the Mason-Dixon line should be summarily ignored in all matters not related to tractor pulls and corn husking.
India has enough people to be its own country. In fact, I believe it is a separate country from Asia. Wait, is Asia even a country? Oh, well. I don't really care. I am American, after all.
Seriously, though, if we start counting South Asia or India, then we have to claim Asia Minor as well. In fact, I'll claim Atlantis while we're at it. That used to be off the tip of Crete, right? Asia Minor. Namor the Sub-Mariner is one of us, baby, an ASIAN. Just look at those slinty eyes.
ak;4391333']lol, racial draft, anyone?
i just looked up fin fang foom on wikipedia, and it says that he's an alien. :annoy:
Fine, whatever, we'll call him a hapa if it makes everyone feel better.
...Also, you kind of obviously messed Nico Minoru's parents. I would count them as characters worthy of the list since they were a part of the Pride. However, you never did specify how many issues someone should be in to "qualify".
Yeah, I figured it would be okay to assume they were Asian by association. Otherwise I'd have to start adding everybody's parents, y'know? And I remember an issue where Iceman had dinner with Opal Tanaka's parents and I didn't think they were worth listing.
But the Minorus are in Runaways, so they deserve their own specific spot. Good watching out, Damny.
Oh, and if we're including Fu Manchu because he appeared in League of Extraordinary Gentleman, then I don't see how we can leave out all the Asian people in Street Fighter by Udon since that's an American comic. (Or is it?)
I left out the Street Fighter people because they are based on the game - a licensed property. Fu Manchu in LoEG is based on a novel character, but the Fu Manchu in the LoEG comic is basically, to me, a new character worthy of our list because he's in the public domain. Plus, Alan Moore wrote that comic and we need more of that.
But this is a good point about licensed properties. If we're counting licensed properties (and I personally don't think licensed comics characters have a place on our list), then we may have to have another ASIAN HUDDLE NOW. If we're allowing licensed characters, then we could have, like, George Takei's character from Star Trek.
Someone should do some fact checking about those GI Joe characters. Were they created in the comics first or were comics based on the toys or cartoon? If we have to cut Storm Shadow, I might cry.
Oh, and speaking of random, from something else I never read, I believe that The Quiz in the Brotherhood of Dada from Doom Patrol is supposed to be a Japanese woman. It's just difficult or impossible to tell due to her germaphobe.
Excellent call. I should have remembered that. I just read that a couple months ago. I have a terrible memory for an Asian. I'm not even good at math.

We have some issues to discuss for the racial draft.
ASIAN HUDDLE NOW

Foreign comcs aren't counted or else we'll be here forever.
Ooops.
In my defense, when I was trying to think of her name, I recalled that scene where she had a threesome with another character and then I googled "Tripli-kate Invincible" and had 3 hits. lol. WHAT'S YOUR EXCUSE LINTY !?
EDIT:
oooh good call on Teeko-Meeko. Speaking of Vertigo, Cedric from "Fight for Tomorrow".
Good work on all the obscure X-Asians, sano. You can be an honorary Asian if you want.
oddly enough i always had image of him bein asian in my head..dunno why.

I say you should count Storm Shadow still even though he started out as a toy. Marvel had a hand in the cartoon and the comics. That one issue that had Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow and no dialog at all, the famous 'Silent Issue' was one of the greatest things in comics ever.

Honestly, enough with the nitpicking regarding the definitions of Asians in the context of this thread. It's obvious what we're looking for here, and there's no need to "prove" India is in Asia - we all know that. It's just that if we include India, then we'd have to include Russia, Saudi-Arabia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan...I mean, come on - that just ruins the fun. In the same way, we never really refer to Puerto Ricans or guys from Guam as Americans. ...I mean, you CAN, if you were like a completely obsessive nitpicker...but I mean...you know. I think my point is made.
So we're just talking in regards to the squinty eyed, rice eating comic book characters in this thread. Feel free to make a new, more accurate Asian Comic Book Characters thread, where Russians and Indians and whoever are also included - I'll gladly contribute to that thread as well.
This should be in now way taken as an offense towards Indian people - I personally love Indian people. I took a taxi the other week, and the Indian guy driving it was very courteous and an excellent cab driver - no one loves Indians more that I do.
- Damn me, I got caught on the Tripli-Kate thing by Damny as well. I'm an ass, I'm sorry. I was just following Shengy's lead, and I just assumed that he knew what the hell he was talking about...which I obviously now know to be folly, and I will never make the same mistake again. YOU'VE LED ME ASTRAY, SHENG-LONG! I TRUSTED YOU, MAN
- Fin Fang Foom is Asian, we reject Marvel's racist reconning of him into an alien. He is ours, get your own ancient giant dragon monster.
- I also agree with the whole licensed property thing, and that's the reason I haven't brought up Street Fighter characters yet. Comic book adaptations of existing properties shouldn't count - if they have already been more prominently established in another medium outside of comics, then they shouldn't count. Because then that also opens up a huge can of worms because like almost every popular movie, television show, video game or whatever has been in at least one comic book adaptation - we'll have to just start listing all the Asians in popular media, which is beyond the scope of this thread.
- G.I.Joe the television series was originally based on the toy line by Hasbro and the comic book title by Marvel. Thus...Storm Shadow is still a valid entry on the list, and the high ass kicking integrity of the list is maintained.
- I always thought Xorn was Jewish all throughout. Was this ever changed, or did I just not understand Planet X correctly? In my defense though, Morrison was tripping on some particularly potent acid for the entire second half of that run.
- Would Spliter (TMNT) be classified as Asian? I mean...yeah, he's a mutated rat...but he was born in Japan and trained by a Japanese dude...so...what's the call there? Or would this just apply to human ethnicities?
Do dead people count? If so -
The Ancient One - Dr. Strange's old master from Tibet. Killed by Shuma-Gorath lol! :wgrin:
Ogun - Wolverine's old Japanese sword master. Even though he's dead his spirit comes back now and then to mess with Logan san...

Who the hell understands "Planet X" correctly, especially when Excalibur basically retconned the shit out of it with but a mere sentence less than four months later? If we're talking solely about Planet X within itself, then "Xorn" was Jewish because he was Magneto in (awesome) disguise. If you go beyond that, though, then the entirety of "Xorn's" existence is called into question because of the two things that happened after that, both of which ended up being abortive: Magneto on the cast of Excalibur dismissing him as an IMPOSTER! & that other Xorn showing up who, AFAIK, has never been mentioned again except maybe in New Excalibur since Juggernaut and Nocturne are there--this would mean that Xorn was actually Chinese--and then the whole "Wanda is Uber now" thing meaning that she could have made it so that Xorn was a Chinese-Jew who just happened to look like her father and having all his powers and mannerisms and personality....
...Ugh, I'm making myself pissed off at Wanda again. Therefore, I'll just stop since I'm sure you knew all that already and I don't want to have to start go into the whole "Collective" bullshit top of that.
*electricity surges up behind me dramatically*
XOORRRNNNNNNN!!!!
...Anyway, I say we just count the second Xorn that turned up even though he will probably never ever show up again. We also need to count that Collective Man guy that China had as well if didn't already--I can't see the first page anymore when posting....
As for Splinter, we should definitely count him if we're counting the Shredder and Fin Fang Foom given that they are both aliens (now).
Oh, and speaking of racist, did we get Chop-Chop from Blackhawk already?
Excalipoor EDIT: Speaking of the short-lived Excalibur, wasn't that "Wicked" girl who could command those specter-like things Asian?
If we are talking racism there's that Dr. Strange villain, the god named The Living Buddha. He looks like a gigantic overweight Buddha statue and of course he is evil. Whoa talk about embracing other cultures and religions... I only know of him becaused he served under Shuma-Gorath lol.
EDIT: Anyone see the new Flash Gordon TV show? Ming the Merciless is no longer obviously asian in design, he's just a regular white guy! No long fingernails, no make up, nothing. Just a regular caucasian! Everything is so PC nowadays... Yeash they could of at least gave the guy green skin or something...

There was R.A.M., who is apparently dead, and Hal Jordan's (best) friend, Thomas Kalmaku, if Eskimos count as Asian.

Technically, yes, but I vaguely remember them being referred as Asian somewhere....
That and they look more like Asians than they do a lot of other Native Americans (but that could just be because the later had forcible hot meat injections of white into them).

Don't historians say that Native Americans crossed over to North America from Asia via the Bering Strait back in the day? But I doubt they would consider themselves Asian at this point in time.
Some Icelandish people look kind of Asian, too. But Bjork says she's not Asian. Iceland's close enough to where all the snowy people live, I guess. Whatever. If we're going to start accepting Icelanders and Eskimos and Native Americans as Asians... I'm seriously going to go ahead and claim Atlantis and Namor.
Thanks for the alphabetized list, 'locky. At some point, when we run out of characters to add to the list, I will try to organize the list by publisher and whatnot. Wow, that sucks - so apparently all this work has already been done, for Marvel and DC at least. We'll have to eventually sift through all those links then. Though our list is still awesome because it reaches across all of comicdom, and it's still probably more extensive than what's in there for Marvel and DC anyway.
I picked up my copy of Kingdom Come last night, and just coincidentally happened to notice five Asian characters in it. Listed below, along with the cheesy description line as found in the back of the trade.

So many kids do that. They don't know how to get out of the way when other (potential) customers/freeloaders are trying to look for something. It's like the kids are so damn engrossed with, like, fucking LOVE HINA that the entire rest of existence ceases to...uh, exist!
I have to step on people sometimes. Or kick them. I haven't spilled coffee on anyone yet because I don't drink coffee so I've never bought a cup at the bookstore.
My next goal is to drop an Absolute Edition on some unsuspecting kid's head. At my Borders recently, the staff put them on the top shelf - the top shelf! I can't wait to go and drop an Absolute Dark Knight on someone! The kid'll be like, "Hey, wtf man, watch out!" And I can be like, "I'm gonna SPAC this shit down!" and make him cry.
It would be awesome to drop a Lost Girls box set on someone's head, too. There can't be much else in the world like getting struck in the noggin by a 15 pound giant hardcover box set of porn.

Clinty, I think I've finally realized where your irrational hatred of Millar comes from. It's 'cause he killed and zombiefied Northstar, eh? He basically ruined the one cool homosexual Canadian superhero.
I understand you now. If I were Canadian, bub, I would hate Mark Millar as well.

You know what the really fucking stupid part is? The big bookstores always have one or two bays of real American comic books and at least twice as much space reserved for manga. They should park their greasy asses in front of the shit that nobody in their right mind would ever want to read, so that I can have access to the shit that I... mostly don't want to read.
Anyway, yeah. Get the fuck away from the comics.

My favourite is how like a lot of the big bookstores now will just throw the two shelves of graphic novels and stuff under the fifteen shelves of manga.
Kinda depressing when you're looking around for the comic books and you find it under a big "MANGA" sign next to all these kids reading Inuyasha or Yu-Gi-Oh mangas. Honestly, I feel bad enough bootlegging comics in a bookstore...there's no reason to hurt my self-esteem even more.

Now let's reenact that "it's not your fault" scene from Good Will Hunting - you'll be Robin Williams and I will be Matt Damon.

I don't think I ever made it that far into the movie, so I had to youtube it. You are one hilarious Canucklehead, Clinty.
And for some reason, Matt Damon just reminds me of Rob Liefeld. I have to go look up a picture of Rob to see what he looks like now.

They're white, they all look the same to me.
LOL, Chinese subtitles - EXCELLENT TOUCH
How could you not have ever seen Good Will Hunting? I thought all English majors were like big pretentious film buffs as well. Ben Affleck has an Oscar sitting on his shelf at home, and Good Will Hunting is why. Ben Affleck is an Academy Award winning actor.
I mean, it was for writing the script, but whatever.

I remember watching part of the DVD with someone this one time. But something came up and I had to go do something else in the middle of the movie, and I never bothered going back to finish what Zephy had started.
There's just a ton of movies I've never watched, despite my English degree. It's probably because I was always too busy reading comic books at Borders, or trying to figure out loopholes as to why Doctor Doom is Asian.

Merciful Rao, I'd forgotten about Sparrow. I shall add her now. Although I will say she belongs somewhere low on the respect list. LOL, Jim Balent "created" her... She must be the most stacked 14 year old Asian girl ever.
