View Full Version : Will there be a SF4 cabinet in your local arcade?

The gap between arcade cabinet technology and home systems is pretty much zero nowadays, and with the little money that arcades generate these days, do you even think they will create an arcade for this?
My hopes is yes they will, but i strongly doubt it... any thoughts?

Will be on Japanese arcades, if it does well it will come to the US.
Only a few arcades will have it though. I'm guessing the same arcades that got Arcana Hearts are probably going to get SF4. Only big arcades though, I doubt random places would get it.

I don't go or intend tournaments,so the only way I'm going to play new people for fun is in the arcade. And I'm too poor to buy a game system or game, so only way I get to play sf4 is in a arcade or never.
So yea, hope my local arcade gets it. :looney:

The closest arcade to me is about 30 minutes away from me in a Dave and Busters and the only 2 fighting games they have in there are Tekken 4 and that arcade classics machine with all the non Super SF2 games. I dont see that arcade getting SFIV. I'm guessing the one a bit further down the road in a mall will get it since they even still have a SF3 cab from what I'm aware of. The one that I know most people go down to in Springfield VA (which still has a 3S cab, used to have 2 T5 DR cabs and some other random fighters) will probably get it.

What i'm curious about is how they would run the hardware if they do bring this to the arcades.
CPS-4 anyone??

The arcade near my house is very good, and tends to keep pretty up to date. It has 3S, T5, T5DR, and a ton of other fighters, so I have high hopes for getting SF4.

The Gameworks just up the street already has MvC, MvC2, SvC and T5, and they're all played fairly regularly so I'd imagine they'll try their best to get a cabinet or two.

I don't even know if there is such a as an "arcade" within hundreds of miles from me. Closest thing is a bowling alley with a DDR machine.

maybe if my arcade sold all their other machines cuz this'll prolly be on some robust shit like taito type 2 x for somereason

Doubt it. Maybe if I offered to split the cost with them, they might consider it. Wouldn't mind doing that, either, as long as they gave me an option to buy if they considered selling it at any point.

God, I hope so. My arcade doesn't have MvC1 or 3S anymore, but it still has all three Soul Caliburs, VF4, CvS1 and 2, TTT, and Tekken 5. Most of them were moved to the back, and CvS2 was moved from a giant screen cab to an ordinary cab, but I think it's clear that the Op has SOME faith in the fighting genre.

There is only one decent arcade here in New Zealand - Yifans. I feel confident they will get it if it's released that way.
Of course, Chinatown Fair will get it.
Ive heard of these so called arcades from back in the day. People used to walk 50 miles in the snow bare foot just to go to one.

There is an arcade near Ryerson University in Toronto which I go to on sometimes. It is pretty up to date, with two 3S machines, XvsSF, MvC1, MvC2, SvC, MSHvsC, T5DR, SCII, SCIII, and SFIII:DI. So I'm pretty certain they will get SF4 if it has an Arcade cab.

Funland loses. :arazz: Your last name wouldn't be Moin would it? Ignore that if it isn't.
I'd be surprised if the two arcades near me didn't get it, especially since they try to emulate the Japanese style. But both of them are pretty slow or hesitant to get the new shit these days. One of them doesn't even have Accent Core yet.

Michigan? Don't worry. We'll get it.
But what arcade are you talking about? I know MI's kinda lucky and still have quite a few arcades doing very decent (added to the fact that Michigan players are pretty arcade pre-dominant), but I don't know of one that has the roster you mentioned. Closest thing I can think of is the Butterfly, but that place is trash, and they don't have CvS1.
Or Pinball Pete's in Ann Arbor. They're the only ones with CvS1 that I can think of off the top of my head....but they had 3rd Strike the last time I was there (back in March) and NO Tekken Tag.
Lastly, there's another arcade thread around here, which is also a good read. Someone brought up that Japan will be developing it (which everyone knows by now), but it will be a huge possibility for being a part of the SBO lineup in the next year or two - depending on its release. That alone should dictate that an arcade release is happening.

Nope... Not my last name.
Anyways, the arcade I listed is just down the street from Younge/Dundas square (walk down Younge, past Dundas, and it is on the across the street from the legendary Sam the Record Man store). Like literally a 2 minute walk. But to people who like japanese sticks, they use all Happ equipment. Anyways, yeah they have a GGXX machine in the back, but it has been down for a long time, and I don't know if they are going to repair it. They haven't gotten Accent Core either. But with all the capcom love, I'm pretty sure they will get a SF4 cabinet in. The arcade by York University seems to be better though IMO. But I only went to it once like 3 or 4 years ago, so what do I know haha.

Ummm FFA/AI?
Don't know about the others (JG, Regency, Super, Cal Poly, Interface) but I pretty sure if the arcade came out then it'd be probably FFA or AI to get it first here in SoCal.

and
Sega horse racing games and other gambling games (the 30~60 year olds love it)

I hope it goes straight to console. Hasn't been an arcade around here for years. It's gonna be really unfair when everyone with an arcade is playing 9 months before I get a chance to see it in action.

The nearest arcade is roughly 300 km's away in another province with $40 toll bridge or boat as the only way to get to it. The local movie theater has DDR and used to have Project Justice, so maybe it'll get. I doubt it though.

Doesn't matter to me if my local arcade gets SF4, because I will buy the arcade kit if it is released in the arcade 1st. Game sessions at the crib will be sick. I would be surprized if sf4 didn't get released in the arcade 1st. We aren't talking about soul calibur. This is street fighter four we are talking about here people! This is the game that started the fighting genre! If tekken6 will be in the arcades 1st then sf4 better be in the arcades!

Most mall arcades are run by a corporation called nickles and dimes... for example "tilt" is a popular chain under this corp.
... as much as i hate mall arcades... i am sure that nickles and dimes will realize that investing in this machine for each of its arcades is a good move.
if they took the initiative to get every tekken sequel(most even got DR), then i am confident that street fighter will not get the cold shoulder... if it does... i just might take up bomb making as a hobby.

Ive never seen anyone play a fighting game machine in it.
Most people in there are half my age, bored out of there minds, and dress like 50 cent. I would probably be arrested as a suspected paedophile, or possibly a Charles Bronson style revenge killer out to get the little sh*t who keyed my Mercedes.
unless you live in Japan (and I did when i was 19, and played in the arcades there), the arcade scene is dead.
If capcom have half a brain they will bring structured, ranked, broadcast, commentated national and international tournament matches to Xbox Live, building up a fanbase of millions. Done right, it could make SF4 console version THE game to have for a generation (again), and a huge hit a la Halo.
Or they could invest in expensive arcade hardware, which wont get enough distribution, and no one will play, so they wont make any money. Tough choice.

They could just do a limited release, isn't that what Atlus does with their games? I mean I know this is hardware but if they keep it limited such that the places that will really want one will buy it and they won't be losing money on it, then that should work, right? I mean, I don't have any local arcades but so long as it doesn't come to the console first with some problems I'll be fine.

Judging from a lot of the posts, I've realized that it is hard to say the arcade scene is dead when yours still has a pulse. As far as whether there will be american cabs coming, we still keep getting the newest KOF's (because they're cheap I would assume) and the newest Tekkens (though if what I'm hearing lately is right that could start being Japan only).
That being said yes my local arcade would get it.

with the exception of SoCal, arcades are pretty much dead in North America, especially in cheap ass areas.
the HD era is here and it's more expensive, and I believe the arcade scene will diminish more over time.
The smoking ban inside commercial establishments was a motivator for me to return to arcades, but the problem is.. there are not many left
