View Full Version : Speculation thread #4,852: Number of buttons

so does everyone think this is going to be 6 button'd?
it could very easily be 4 button'd like kof
or 4 button'd + 2 button assist like mvc2
or it could be like virtua fighter and have 3 buttons
or it could be 5 button'd like guilty gear
maybe 2 button'd like karate champ
perhaps theyll be innovative and have 8 buttons- a button for throw and a button for universal overhead, or maybe buttons for special attacks
COME ON LETS KEEP SPECULATING WE ONLY HAVE MORE THAN A YEAR REMAINING

Why have separate buttons for throw and UOH when the 3s system worked fine?
SFIV will not turn into a tag-team style fighter, ergo no assists.
*ObZ
It's going to have just 2 buttons, "taunt" and "win".

I say the game should only have one button "auto-win"

If this game doesnt have six buttons im gonna be fucking disappointed. I love having lots of buttons because if I feel like im pushing one too much I can start mashing on another. That's called mixups.

I actually saw the blue print of SF4. A naked guy was running in town with it. It is going to have 10 buttons.
Jab/Strong/Fierce/Assist-1/Game-Freeze
Short/Forward/Roundhouse/Assist-2/Hentai
I like the hentai button the most but the game-freeze button looks welcoming as well.
How about Game-Freeze>Hentai? You know, on those lonely nights when no one is near and the xb live is alone.

It will have 4 buttons:
1. Taunt
2. Parry (Mash to achieve Daigo-like Super Parrying)
3. Meter Build (mash repeatedly to gain super)
4. SA I/II/III
The game will sell billions, I tell you.

A friend of a friend of a relative who knows someone who works as a charwoman at Capcom said the layout has already been decided: it's gonna be 87 buttons and 2 pedals.

The naked guy's blue print was a fake. The real controller looks like this: http://joypadgame.com/images/xbox/sb.jpg
And here I thought there would be a hentai button. Dreams can never happen. :(

Eleventy billion buttons.
* OR *
Button count doesn't matter. What matters is that the game is designed for, and plays well with, however many buttons it uses, whether it be 6, or 4, or 3, or whatever.

It's only been a week and I'm tired of speculating. I think it's more important to leave it up to the people that are making the game themselves. If they really care about SF and the fans as much as they should...it'll work out.
Oh and yes...this game will be six god damned buttons. They tried 4 with CVS1 and that shit obviously didn't happen again in CVS2. It's not even a matter of the fact that they could make a game with 4 buttons. Not every character even really needs to use every one of their normals in most SF games outside of variety and mix ups. You dont see people throwing Zangief's s.HK or Rose's s.LP all over the place. They dont really need those normals much at all. Outside of just to give them an animation for when you hit that button there's maybe one or 2 situations where those normals are actually useful for them.
When it comes down to it though...Capcom introduced 6 buttons not just to fighting games...but the arcade scene in general and if that's how SF has been and that's what has pleased nearly all of the fans...it's something they should strive to keep.

given the success of ddr, capcom will attempt to bring in more money at arcades by implementing a dancepad instead of a joystick.

Continue when the timer is a 0
Run
Dash
Blue Dash
Grab
Throw
Jump
Jump higher
Short Jump
Super Jump
Double jump
Side step
Back-step
Block
Low Block
Air Block
Parry
Low Parry
Air Parry
Taunt
Super Taunt (for dan players)
Jab punch
medium punch
Strong Punch
Stronger punch
Dual punch
Walking stronger punch
Middle finger button
Short kick
Long kick
medium kick
Roundhouse kick
running towards then small jump into dual kick button
KO button

And I guess those are just the basic buttons, then you'll need one button for every single special and super art move in the game and properly labeled.

And not only the buttons, there will be 1 joystick for every direction.

6 buttons seems so obvious but Capcom just might go with 4 buttons to further entice the mainstream(console) players.
All I need is 2 buttons, 1 for tap and 1 for throw. Maybe bundled together in 1 button. Now thats convenience.
4 Buttons isn't realy a problem, easily make up the difference with command normals, or is that too SNK for everyone.

it should be 6 buttons, that's Capcom/SF trademark and I think everybody's used to 6 buttons for SF (at least I am); and 4 buttons is why I didn't spend time on CvS1 though I liked the game.
I'm used to 4 buttons for Kof/Tekken, but not SF; SF is 6

I'd like to see some traditions passed down from each game so it should be 6 buttons.
