View Full Version : Breakable crates??

Since the days of Street Fighter II I have longed for one thing: crates. Smash Brothers delivered -- but not in the way I wanted. Crates have been broken for years. Since the release of Street Fighter II, many games have crates. First person shooters have entire levels consisting of crates, and even in real life, warehouses have begun to contain crates. Unfortunately, as a new age dawns on the world of fighting games and begins to make its new, glorious history, crates are seeming obsolete. Are the days of breaking crates over? In Street Fighter II, players were allowed to completely destroy crates, and even in Nintendo's smash hit, Super Smash Brothers, the players were allowed to destroy crates.
Now, I'm not foolish enough to want to destroy crates to get "items." We all know that "items" have no place in fighting games. I just want to be able to break crates. With the new developments in crate technology in Street Fighter II HD, maybe some of those crate destruction technologies can transfer over to Street Fighter 4. Maybe some day, we can destroy crates, in the NEXT GENERATION. I hope that crates -- BREAKABLE CRATES -- exist in Street Fighter 4. Do you share my dream?

Why? Why post this again?
Might as well delete this. I believe the mod is being serious about infractions and bans. The countdown is over.
Though I did laugh the first time you put it up. :lovin:

This is clearly a serious thread. My wanting crates is no less of a serious desire than people wishing to have Mike Haggar in the next Street Fighter, or desiring to have parries in the next Street Fighter. Who are you to determine that my number 1 priority of crates existing in the next installment of Street Fighter is any less important than someone else wanting a parry system?

Yes, falling ontop of a crate should also inflict more damage. Even more if you land on it's corner.

Aren't there breakable boxes in Hugo and Yang's stages?

the closest thing to a "crate" in 3s is ryu's shoulder bag... which falls over, which is GOOD but not quite CRATE.
crates are awesome, but lets not forget about .... BARRELS!!

you can break cups and saucers on chunli stage.
If SFIV is 2.5 D, I'd like to see breakable environments, just like in Street Fighter Animated Movie when Ken throws Ryu straight through the hut, or when Guile vaporizes the another straw hut with his sonic boom.

This thread is important for the success of SFIV. It was the one thing I missed in SF3.

In Second Impact I could SWEAR there is a breakable barrel in Hugo's or Sean's stage and something in Yang's.

In Yang's stage some of the statues in the antique store are breakable. Well I know the one near the left side is. IIRC it's just a barrel near the corner in Hugo's. I don't remember anything in Sean's.

Barrels are no substitute for crates

Maybe not exactly a barrel or crate, but some affect of the fight on the surroundings, but NOT the other way around.

I wonder if the oil drum in Ken's stage on the HD Remix will also be redrawn by Udon artists...
On topic, crate idea. Guile's stage had the most satisfying crates, with Ryu's stage a close second. VIVA LA CRATE

Tell me how this warrants a neg.
I assume you were talking about 2I or something. Someone didn't know what you were getting at and negged you because Yun/Yang's stage in 3S doesn't have anything on it.

when you someone falls on their backs the bowl of noodles bounce closer to the edge and eventually it falls over and break. and the right corner if someone gets knocked down in the air the bamboo break. I think thats close enough in 3S
I voted yes because it be something to do other than beat down your opponent

I think something in Chun's stage broke actually...

the good ole crate. when me and my friends would play, knocking someone into a crate resulted in a "win" even if you lose.

this is related to crates, but capcom should put breakable scenery with crates, barrels, oil drugs etc complete with a thumpig thud sound for each.

In SF2, you'd actually get points for breaking crates/drums/statues/etc.

Being thrown/attacked into a crate/statue/etc and receiving extra damage would be dope.
But no museum stage...
You'd get KO'ed by a leg sweep and stumble into everything. :wasted:

I just want a Guile stage with breakable barrels marked "RICE" on them. That would show me the people making this game truly care.

I'd love to see a bunch of random stuff to be busted. What's a good fight without some collateral damage?

There'll probably be some sort of breakable background I'm sure.

I dunno man, I used to love beating up the car in 3s, but after doing the exact same thing over and over again, it gets pretty boring. I think if I wanted to beat up a car/crate, I'd just download a cartoon network game instead.
