I wonder what this board will be like if Street Fighter IV did end up being 3D. Jumping to conclusions based on the worst possible game they can imagine regardless of what is announced.

i think sf4 could benefit from being 3d in the way that ex series was in 3d.
i don't want it to be like the ex series, but i can see why capcom would want to do it that way.
for one, damage would be as, if not more, accurate as 3s (they don't have to deal with hitbox collision, just polygon collisions).
really, i think the best option for capcom would be to have sf4 be 3d, but still retain the 2d qualities of its predecessors and not include sidestepping or other 3d game quirks. maybe cel shading the game to give it the effect of hand drawn sprites?

I think that they should make it look like a combination of 3rd strike and Street Fight HD Remix but wit more realism. Altho yours is good too...

As much as we cry, we all know they'll use character models (as in 3D character models) and not sprite-based. At least, that's the general consensus right? (am I using that word right)

yes. you are correct. i have accepted that, and try to look at the bright side. some people have not yet accepted that companies make games to sell them, not to make fanbois happy.

You act as if hit detection in 3D is any easier than 2D, you're still using hit boxes.

am i correct in assuming that the polys can act as hit boxes?

why would you want polygons to act as hitboxes? it's more interesting if the hitboxes aren't restricted totally to the full extension of the move animation, imo.

No, although that can be done, you can make hit boxes that don't even connect to a character model.

The first round will be in 2-D.
But then during the second round, it becomes 3-D.
If it ends up going to a third round, it will be 2.5D.

Actually, if the game was 3d, it would be ACTUAL hit BOXES. Rather than hit-two-dimensional-polygons.
