i'm trying to upgrade my brother's comp.budget $250 current build

amd athlon 1.25ghz
1 gb ram (i'll get the specifics in a few hours.)
random generic mobo
onboard video + audio
generic power supply (specifics soon)

he currently uses it for photoshop and video conversion. i'm trying to get him a new mobo, processor, and a video card. given the budget, i think an older amd would work best. but this is my first time dealing with amd so i'm not sure what to get.

i'm thinking amd 64 3500 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103033) and a 256mb 7600gt (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150185)

thanks

that system is way too old to even bother for an upgrade imo.

If you're going to buy a new mobo theres no reason not to do dual core.
Get a cheap Althon 64 X2 w/ cheap 2GB of DDR2 RAM. For the video card if he doesn't game, a ATI HD 2400 or 2600 would be a very good budget card.

i'm just keeping the hd and the ram (if applicable) (and the case) . everything else is getting trashed. i proably should not have said upgrade.

everything else sounds good- what mobo do you recommend? this is giving the most trouble.
