Just curious to know if people like taunts or hate them or just don't care either way.
So, is it a yes or a no to taunts in SF4?
Bitching is welcomed if desired.
Peace!

Yes.
Taunts are fun as long as they don't conjure plants, sports equipment (includes shoes) or fruit doing ranged damage.
I liked the taunt effects in 3s, but I wouldn't mind a few animations with no additions to gameplay either. Just do them for style :D

for sure it needs taunts... "personal actions" was one of the best things about third strike. it adds personality to the fight, and its just another level of risk/reward

Taunts that inflict damage or give an increase in ability are dope.

I could do without taunts. I don't like the fact that Third Strike used them to make characters better, just make the character viable in the first place. I also don't like how they gave the other guy meter in CvS2. I guess I'd be fine with Smash Bros-style taunts that don't do anything other than make your character vulnerable and that can't be used after the end of a round. That'd make taunts useless, and that's fine with me. But yeah, could do without them.

Only if it makes really good use of the graphics engine in some way. Like have Dhalsim twist like a pretzel or something.

I like taunts a lot, but I prefer that they be purely for visual effect, without building meter or changing attributes. You know you're taunting for real when it serves no other purpose than to say "fuck you!" to the other guy.

Hello all, first post, I could not find a new members thread.
On the subject of taunts:
I think taunts would be great, when pulled off directly after a special move they could be the juicy cherry on top that could enrage the opponent making them more agressive soon after. That in itself could be a psychological tactic that good players could employ when they feel it is needed.
Psychological warfare is good, so yes.

taunts that do damage and are CCable (chun) or have some increase in ability 3s are the best kinds of taunts. getting killed by a CCed taunt is humiliating. taunts that incr ability prevent turtling.

I'm in the "yes, if it does nothing" camp.

Given how fugly the whole 3D thing is, I'd say no. Taunts would be sad. Look at Dead or Alive or something.

I liked how they had an effect in 3s, I would agree that a character (Q) shouldn't have to base his game around taunting but it can add just a little extra to each character. Having extra damage on your next attack weather it whiffs, is blocked or hits isn't a big game changer but gives you a reason to use taunts other than just making it a "fuck you button".

Taunts are fun. as long as they don't build the other guy's meter I'm cool.

Make taunts functionless,
Make taunts last time same amount of time for each character (lol pulling Remy taunts = world of hurt)
Making three winning poses for each character that the winner can choose to display. This should be in addition to taunting at the end. You can choose to taunt or choose a winning pose.

Taunts are cool. Killing people with Chun Li's taunt in SFA2 is dope
But what this game really needs is custom win sayings when you play online, so you can type up stupid shit like havin' Ken tell you that "You got served!" or reviving some of the awful win quotes from back in the day like Guile's(?) "Go home and be a family man"

I would like to see unlimited taunting. Anything that adds style and personality to the game is a plus.

if they have taunts, do it like guilty gear
should be punished, if you feel your so much better, then give your opponent an advantage and lets see

I hope taunts are in it, personally I think taunts should have backlash hence giving the other person meter while giving yourself a bonus of some sort.

I like taunts, it adds insult to injury. As for it doing something other than hurting someones ego, I would have to say let it build the revenge gauge just a little. Nothing more nothing less.

As long as it doesn't royally shit people up (Dudley, I'm looking square at YOU), I'm cool with it. Taunting is fun!

METALLIC GRUNT (Gains life ftw)
Seriously tho, taunts are unquestioningly essential. As long as they don't take 6 years to do like Iori's taunt in CVS2. Make em cancellable like in Garou but without making other moves cancel into them cuz that would make them glitched and broken.
Oh and plz, don't make the taunt almost exactly the same as the win pose. 3S does that alot and it's boring. It would also be cool if u could choose your win pose. The more annoying the better.

The taunts should give a benefit to the player other than insult. Like increase the power meter or something.
Bison's taunt should be bringing out a bunch of play money and saying "I got paid!"

Everyone should have super taunts and taunt randomly after doing massive damage+knockdown, without restricting movement lol. Even Ryu can crack a grin when he breaks someone's face, it wouldn't restrict him from attacking or doing stuff. And of course, balrog must have some funny shit to say.
Super taunts would just point out the fact that your opponent is a total douche. Examples: Ken would sign an autograph of a fan. Ryu would check his duffle bag for supplies, possibly with a ridiculously lengthy animation if not canceled. Balrog could punch some random person, or start yelling incoherently.

Taunts are stupid, and I completely agree with UltraDavid in that they shouldn't be allowed after KO. It's called sportsmanship.

Taunt kill is the best thing to ever happen in fighting games.
Sportsmanship is choosing not to be a dick...if there is no choice then whats the point?

tickling someone to death in with Ken in SF3 is the most awesome way to kill a douche and also the best anti air in the game.
Taunts for the win!
