Ok my friend just showed me this article on magic box and they said they interviewed the PRODUCER and he said it's going to be on PS2 or NDS.. Now who thinks this is going to be true?
Here is the article and check out Dec 11...

The producer said that if SFIV sells well they may port it to the PS2 and DS to make more money and whatnot. So there is no confirmation that SFIV will be on those two platforms however it will be on the PS3 and 360 and will definately be next gen first before anything.

I can't see it being playable on DS. PSP would be more likely, unless Capcom just want to remain in favour with Nintendo.

It could play fine on the DS, just with severely downgraded graphics. Mario Kart DS runs at a smooth 60 FPS and it looks fine to me. Capcom could just do 2D backgrounds and put all the polygons they can into the characters.

that would be nice for the people who dont have a next gen system or cant buy one or what ever the reasons are. so bring on the ps2 version am sure it wont be that bad.

Yeah...just like the Game Gear version of like the Mortal Kombat games...all you have to do is downgrade the graphics and u can make a SOMEWHAT similar game. Otherwise this is definitely a game that can only be faithfully reproduced on a next gen system.

because it was built on PC, he probably means the game is scalable to PS2 and NDS too. Kinda like how Guitar Hero franchise is ported to ps2, and ps3,360, and now PC. i don't think he can ignore the next-gen options for high-res graphics, and OBVIOUSLY online matchmaking.

The magic box, as usual, badly translated that info from the EGM article, with the producer simply said that PS2 and DS versions are possible.
He probably didn't mention the PSP, because if you're gonna port it to handhelds, you might as well port it to the best one.

Lol, Have you seen the Tekken 5 DR port on PSP?
I'd be very suprised if the DS could do SF4 justice, but the PSP I think i capable of it

I think it's funny how everyone says this can't be anything except next gen when all we've seen is two beta screenshots and a cgi trailer.
I don't want to buy a 360 or PS3 for one game. I really hope this comes to the PS2.

I wouldnt hold my breath if I were you. SF4 has PS3 and Xbox 360 all over it. If PS2 does gets a port, the graphics would be greatly downgraded. I bet you after seening the game running on the next gen consoles you wouldnt want to even deal with a PS2 port.

Where is this "all over it" you're talking about? All I've seen is a few beta screenshots and heard a few rumors. And since when did everyone become graphic whores? PS2 can produce Okami and Colossus, which both look fine to me.

Art design on both those games are nice but you will see a huge difference between PS3/Xbox 360 version over a PS2 version. SF4 isnt going the Okami style with water colors and it isnt 1 guy vs a moving stage. There's a lot more going on that I doubt will make it over. The "all over it", im talking about is the graphically level Ono is going for. Only 360/PS3 have the hardware to push it, PS2 does not. Just read the EGM and see what Ono has planned graphically and animation wise for SF4. Oh and everyone is a graphic whore, your just a cheap whore.

I'm not saying I want SF4 to look like Okami, I'm just saying to not write off the PS2 yet.
For graphic whore, what I was aiming at was wondering why downscaling graphics is now a big issue in this community. I like good graphics, but I don't want to buy a $300 system for them. I'll take a few less polygons, please.

I rather pay $300 dollars and play the game the way it was ment to be played. PS2 hardware cant support a faithful port. Ono was talking about character animation changing during the battle. One example, if Ken gets hit too many times on his right shoulder during a match, you will see his stance change by dropping his shoulder more to protect it He talked about facial expression, throwing up, swelling, color changes, and ect... SF4 has HD resolution of 720p/1080i/1080p written all over it. There's also so much more he didnt talk about so who knows what else Ono has up his sleeve. Being a huge SF fan $300 is a low price of admission. SF4 deserves all the support it can get. If you want to miss out on all that on a cheap down ported PS2 version than you do live up to your name of Cheap Shot.

That's a really good possibility. BUT, I think that won't happen until after the PS3 and 360 release. All these new fighters are practically HD now. So yeah, I guess it's time to jump on the next gen bandwagon if you haven't already.

HD resolutions is the best thing that has happened to fighters in a long time.

Wow people it's gonna be 2008 soon. It's time to move on from PlayStation 2. For crying out loud.
It'd be like complaining in 1998 that there wasn't a Genesis version of Street Fighter Alpha 3. Or holding out for an NES version of Street Fighter 2 back in 1993.

if you look at the actual EGM article where they got their information came from it says "Ono [SFIV producer] suggests that Capcom could produce a PS2 or DS version if they deem the market suitable." So again that isn't a confirmation but just saying if we can make some money doing a port then maybe they'll do it but if you look farther in the article Ono also says that SFIV might not even come out in 2008 it could take a year or two after 2008. If the 360 and PS3 versions of SFIV come out in 2009 then I doubt they'd bother with a PS2 version. If worst comes to worst and SFIV comes out in 2010 then the PS2 is definitely out.

The game is only at 2%, but nothing about what we've seen so far suggests that the game will require next-gen hardware. Hopefully the next-gen (lack of) price incentive will yield a game that looks considerably better than PS2 Tekken 5 running in progressive-scan*.

Sony's best system ever. Even when the PS3 reaches its peak, i doubt it will have toped the sheer greatness that was PS2.

Considering that all arcade fighters are made with HD in mind in Japan, it'll be really hard to downscale it without it looking horrible. Case in point: Arcana Heart FULL. The game is meant to be played on HD due to it's high resolution and it looks like ass. Quite possibly the most horrible looking port ever. Random black-screens after Arcana burst? WTF?! Horrible. Still playable, though and arcade perfect.

I don't mind the PS2 version taking a graphical hit as long as it retains all the gameplay of the next-gen versions.

Its just proof that money talks. And ppl will make games whichever system that sells the most games, whether it is overpowered or underpowered.
Damn, they didn't even consider PSP. Thats like a slap to Sony's face. At least they said PS2.
PS2 and DS is apparently still the number 1 sellers of today according to capcom eyes.
hmmm... Please... don't .....suck... sf4 :(

I Hope it really does come to ps2, I unfortunately can't afford a ps3, due to my circumstances. 2008/Next gen or not, ps2 ftw. If the graphics are downgraded, who really cares? I don't play the games for the "OH SHIT!" type graphics, I play the game for just that, the gameplay. Then again that's just me.

They mention the PS2 and DS because they have the largest markets that the game could sell. The Wii's sales are great but the audience is not traditional 'gamers.' The 360 is great in the US but is crap in Japan and the PS3 is underperforming everywhere.
More than likely Capcom won't be pumping out high end graphics into SF4 on par with VF5 or Tekken 6, because of the fluid nature of this current generation. They should be watching the current war to see which system will have the audience for game. It may take them a month to decide, we may not find out until April but if there is no clear winner, despite everything PS2 games still sell well in some cases and it is easier to port up to stronger systems based on the PS2 rather than port it down to less powerful systems from a PS3 based game.

I'm thinking that it'll hit PS3 and X360 judging from the looks, but the graphics would have to be scaled down a bit for any PS2 or NDS port. It's all depending on the market situation at release, because I don't imagine Capcom would be making the game highly unportable.
The real important question would be whether or not it will be hitting personal computers. It's a tradeoff, because the ease of PC piracy hurts sales but increases interest, so it may all be up to what the bean-counters calculate... and don't forget that you need decent graphics hardware to render what little we've seen in real-time; not everyone has a kickin' computer, but anyone with the appropriate console could run it.

following is just my opinion:
late 2008 or early 2009: SF4 will not be ported to the PS2 and the DS.
the PSP has more chances of getting a port than the PS2 or DS does.
Good intentions and all but reality will be different by 2009.

Okami.
Or even the less pretty Narutimate Accel.
The more graphically annoying thing about PS2 and Wii by the time SF4 comes out will be that 480p is the best resolution you can reasonably hope for (but we never know until it happens...).
