I was just chatting with a friend about what games for the SNES to give a play of and he mentioned Chrono T., now I have the PSX ver. of the game and since the only drawback I heard about it was the loading times, what other stuff does the SNES ver. have over the PSX ver.?

Do you get all the endings? They're great.
Best RPG ever is probably pretty damn good on the PSX version, although I've never played ti.

SNES version is fine, it's completely playable... However it is expensive...

It's just the load times. Don't worry too much about it.

Just download the ROM or get a cartridge. The load times on the PS version are horrendous. A lot of the discs were defective so some people (including me) ended up with load times of up to 10 seconds between menus/battles. Not to mention a lot of the games just stopped working after a while.

Sacrificing a couple of seconds for some awesome Akira Toriyama animation is definitely worth it. They're epic. However, I suggest you play it on a SNES emu so you can load save states to get all the different endings. If you don't want to, you could, you know... Search for them online. Oh, and then play Chrono Cross. 5 times.

No fucking shitty long stupid cutscenes.

Not to derail, but if you want an RPG that's just as awesome (in different ways), and is a lot shorter/casual, play Mario RPG for the SNES.
Chrono Trigger is one of my favorite RPGs and lemme tell you something....
PSX version ruins it completely. Shit is awful...just get the cart. I don't think I even got past Proto Dome before calling it quits with the PSX vers...just couldn't take the load time anymore.
The cutscenes are fucking AWESOME though.

Personally, I didn't like the load times at all on CT.
Unsure why the problem was not resolved in anyway no matter what kind of hard-ware square was using during the time of the making of this game.
In general, 5 second load times for almost everything you do gets very annoying. It really did get to the point where I hope to god a random good item didn't drop from a monster because of the fear that I may have to goto the menu and equip it.
Blah, I say!

Hmm... the load times aren't so bad on the PSX version, though when I played it, it was an ISO on the PSP. :)

download the rom, with most emulators you can increase the game-speed, so you get faster battles faster traveling, and you can save anywhere - thus it is cooler
also some sound are different on the psx and even the rom version. Luminiar spell sounds different for example, and in a worse way imo

This game was AWESOME, some idiot stole my cartidge, when found the fucker that stole my cartridge, i proceeded to his house, knock on his door, then beat him over the head with the scooter i took to go to his house and went home and finished the game.

Have you guys seen the short animated cartoon starring some of the side characters? (Chrono Trigger OVA)

Dat ZSNES son. PSX load times are tolerable, depending on your viewpoint, it's really only noticeable when loading/exiting the menu, but you tend to do that quite often with these old-schoolers. I'd rather play any of them on SNES.
Chrono Trigger is timeless, don't play FF4-6 on PSX either, Secret of Mana, Secret of Evermore, Super Mario RPG, and last but not least, Earthbound. All of those games are gold in their own way, and any real RPG fan needs to have played through each of them at least once IMO.
load times were ok, I would just rather play the original. but wasn't there an extra ending added to the psx version to tie it in better with Chrono Cross?
And I agree with that list except for Secret of Evermore, I heard that was the reason we never got Seiken Densetsu 3, which was awesome.. I would like to add Terranigma, Lufia II, and Seiken Densetsu 3 to that list

yeah a friend showed that to me, it takes place the night before the festival right? I remember because that was when I found out Gato's original name was Rodrigo or something like that

With out some of the guys of Enix to help make this game, this game would haven't have been as great. Read the Credits of dragon quest 4 then chrono trigger.

The load time on PSX is simply too much, it is pretty much unplayable. You only get a few animations in the PSX version on top of that, actually it might have only been one now that I think about it. If you really want to see animated chrono trigger so much go find the anime shorts and just watch those.
Just play the SNES version, on emulator if you no longer play your SNES.
Chrono Cross had good music but is just a flat out awful game. Like on every level, it's just not very good. Getting the endings for it was the most frustrating thing I've ever endured gaming wise in my life. Were there only 5? I felt like I had worked for far more than that.
Some games age very well, becoming even greater over time and number of playthroughs. Suikoden III is a great example of that. Other games are just worse the more you play them, Chrono Cross is an example of that.
I had the chance to steal it once back in the day, but I missed out and accidentally stole Secret of Evermore instead.

I can't believe anyone managed to play that piece of shit Chrono Cross for more than one ending.
Amazing.

If they made a 3rd chrono it should be good since Enix helped make the 1st one
I've wanted to sit through Radical Dreamers, for that crazy SNES satellite system or whatever the heck it was, but I just... can't. It's too much text that has nothing to do with the other games. And the story for Chrono Cross was so strung out on crack that you'd have to grind up the game into powder and snort it in order to understand it. So technically, there are three CT games already.

i have nothing else to add other than to quote this for emphasis. play both. on the snes.

from my experience, the psx versions intro animation (at least for the US version) has a lower framerate then usual cutscenes have. look a little bit choppy.
also, the sounds are not quite the same, and there is some input lag when scrolling down the menus (NKI might want to test this :P)
but those can be overlooked, i liked both versions.

TBH no matter what I can't seem to get into the Mario RPG, but I do agree that it is a great SNES game.
Thanks for the feedback I just 'got' the game along with a 'hacked' ver. called 'PSX Ver.' for the SNES, not sure what's special about it but I got it nontheless. Furthermore I'm using a fan-translated one.

Not sure if it was brought up, but the US version of the PSX CT had annoying frameskip in the cutscenes, which WEREN'T in the Japanese version.

CT on the PSX wasn't without fault but if you've got patience (and really, much of it isn't required), the game is very enjoyable in CD formate. Yeah, I've got my SNES copy (paid $32 for it used with instructions on my 16th birthday :wgrin: ) but I like my PSX copy too. There's no shame in playing the disc version.
