Women are like the ultimate theory fighter. More than anything, or any thread I've seen in Other Games or the specific thread. It sounds like a good plan on paper (so to speak) when one is reading the relationship or advice thread. But in practice, I think I've had too many things from the left field pass my way.

They are more random than Magneto, more fleeting and difficult to catch than Storm, have more meter than Cable, and are more tenacious and more hurtful than Sentinel.

That is not to say I am totally disheartened, but at least now I understand, and sympathize with, the "stairs" mentality a little bit more.

This was something I think Million brought up in the other thread, but I wanted to say something about it anyway. I used to do some things on the cheap...but sometimes you really do get what you pay for.

After the whole "gotta have kicks" and the Air Jordan and Reebok Pumps crap of the mid-90's, I started to think that no shoe should cost more than $50, tops. I too bought the $10-20 loafers at K-Mark/Walmart, and that was fine.

I did notice though that when I came to Japan, and subsequently was on my feet a lot more, the shoes tended to die out fairly quickly. The heel would crack, split, separate, or in some cases, disintegrate. I'd get another pair of $10 shoes sent from home and be on my way until those fell apart.

But I tired of having cheap shoes, so I went out to the outlet stores (only places that would have my sizes in Japan) and got two pairs of Timberland's - I bought them for about $170 and $80 at outlet prices - but originally they went for at least $400. These shoes are the real deal. The pair I bought for $170 - I climbed Mt. Fuji in these shoes, and I'm wearing them now - looking at them, they're barely damaged. Maybe a scratch or two if you really look for it.

So I think sometimes you gotta spring extra for quality stuff.

I miss having Cinemax for their late-night "action". This reminds me, did anyone else think Cinemax beat the shit out of HBO back in the day? While HBO is showing some crap like Out of Africa, Cinemax would show you "Passion Cove", perhaps preceded by "Near Dark" or "Vamp". Cinemax was the real deal to me. HBO typically showed lame ass movies I didn't care about. They somewhat redeemed themselves later on though with shows: Dream On, the Real Sex series, Tales from the Crypt, Def Comedy Jam, Hardcore TV(one of the funniest things in the history of tv), etc. Cinemax still beat their ass in terms of TnA and movies my generation cared about. Cinemax would show me some Action Jackson, followed up by "Night Eyes 3" later on that night, followed up by "Voyeur Beach"....flip over to HBO and what are they showing? Chocolat. Get that shit out of here.(Juliet Binoche would get the MeatPipe though)

I need to make more money so I can get HBO and Cinemax again. It has been well over 2 years now since I've seen either one. Hmm...I had Showtime as well when I had digital 2 years ago, but Showtime sucks...especially with regard to late-night jerkin material. Red Shoe Diaries is such disappointing garbage....it's like some bullshit that MUST'VE been directed by a woman.

Perfect cable tv, imo---full channel/network choice by the consumer. Let me pick exactly what I want to pay for. This would just make so much more sense to me. I'd take HBO, Cinemax(just 1 of each, who has the time to watch 50 HBOs?) Univision, Cartoon Network, USA, G4, Food Network, FOXnews, CNN, History, CourtTV and FX. Regular tv covers the rest of what I watch.

He *did* play Satisfaction. However, Pacha got very crowded. My friend and I were in this tunnely area behind/under the DJ booth dancing. It was pretty fun.

I was working on an RPG but I gave up for similar reasons. Actually that and it was too much work. Even ignoring the sprite problems, it was taking too long, and dialogue was a pain to really work on. I'm sure the software is a lot better these days, but back when i was working on this (early 2002 I think) it used this clunky switch system, and to be honest I ran out of switches about an hour into the game. I had people playtest it, and there was some interest, but meh, what's the point.

The story was really set to be basically a trilogy anyway. And I couldn't get in some of the gameplay mechanics I wanted either (story split in the middle of the first game where you either follow the traditional hero and group, or you get to control the anti-hero character that's actually the real hero when you actually know the real story behind it, I guess basically think something like FF Tactics if you had the choice between Delita instead of Ramza after that first Chapter). The second part was suppose to show what happens after you destroy the alleged villains/other side in a war, so I guess you flip sides. Actually I guess I coulda dragged out the story even more because on my little storyboard I wrote up the first game actually takes place a good 15 years or so after the story starts (no, I don't have monsters "sealed" by previous heroes, I actually have some deaths).

I put quite a lot of thought into my plot, but I don't really remember the specifics anymore and I've long since lost my notes. I related my ideas to a few RPG fanatics, and I don't know if they were being nice or not but they claimed it'd be the greatest RPG story ever. Someone mentioned Half Life which I never bothered playing I think.

It's too bad I'm not a chick, or I could have been allowed to write and produce my project. Instead I'll probably become a lawyer and start a soft drink business, or represent pro fighters in salary negotiations and to get them acting gigs. Or maybe I'll do nothing interesting and become a bum.

Yep. I've had this garbage machine since launch, and I don't think I'll be selling it, unless I get a truly remarkable offer.

Part of the reason I like keeping it around is that it pisses off all the people who want one when they see me not using mine.

Aahh, yeah, I used to work on an RPG and got bored too.

The idea I got going on with this fighter (8 buttons, 3 Punches, 3 kicks, and 2 mode buttons (see below)), is to have no projectiles or anything supernatural like that. Rather, there is 3 Fortitude Meters. 1 for your character's head, 1 for upper body, and 1 for lower body. As you do moves that respective Fortitude gauge lowers, and when you hit a foe his respectively hit gauge lowers as well. When a gauge is empty any moves using that part of the body deal half damage, and when hit take double damage. When your head gauge runs out of Fortitude you get Dizzied and the bar refills (only applies to head gauge though.)

To add to it, when a bar is full you do full damage and as it lowers you slowly deal less and less as well.

Instead of a Super Gauge there is a 5 part Adrenaline Gauge. It fills on you hitting your foe and you getting hit. To spruce it up, the lower your Fortitude Gauge's are the faster your meter will fill.

There are 2 mode buttons, you push a mode button and you enter that mode, and each mode slowly drains your Adrenaline meter. You can only be in 1 mode at a time. There is "Recovery" mode which gives your guy a green hue, and while in Recovery all moves that you do deal half damage but instead restore your Fortitude meters. There is "Destruction" mode which instead gives your guy a red hue, and while in Destruction all moves that you do deal double damage, but take off twice as much on your Fortitude meters.

You can hit a mode button while Dizzied to pay 2 Gauges to escape Dizzy automatically.

You can do EX Moves ala 3S for 1 Gauge.

Traditional supers cost 3 Gauges.

You can do Alpha Counters (now called Destiny Counters I guess...) as well for 1 Gauge.

I know there is an audiobook for Snow Crash and it's really well done, dunno about Cryptonomicon, it probably wouldn't hold up to audiobook format.

background music for drawing/general art stuff, you say? For me, it's a wild variety of things...but these have been some of my favorite "soundtracks" for me in Art Battle Mode:

-Drop, from Pharcyde
-Hell's Wind Staff, Wu Tang
-most Cowboy Bebop music.
-Cinema Paradiso...I think that's from Ennio Morriconne(?) It's on one of my many "movie music" cds.
Hans Zimmer, various Gladiator movie tracks.
-Bioshock' score. This game's music is so perfect...it's too bad most of the tracks are short.
-Cirque Due Soleil, various tracks....mostly the "Mystere" album. My other one is Nouvelle Experience, which I haven't listened to in quite awhile. It has such an elegant, "high art" atmosphere.....perfect for getting into that "pretentious artist alert" frame of mind. I think artists are actually supposed to be pretentious assholes, at least occasionally.....because it's fun, and it's what people expect of us.

-Big O soundtrack....and The Lost Boys soundtrack. The list of "BGMs" goes on and on; these are only what came to mind immediately as the typical things I am listening to when drawing.

Painting just wasn't that fun for me. I realize this is mostly because I'm incredibly lazy. Regular ol' illustration is simply more accessible, and cheaper to do anyway. Supplies are a pencil or pen and some paper, and there ya go. Painting feels more like "work"(especially since you have to gather some supplies that aren't exactly cheap), whereas simple illustration is still fun for me. Well, at least it wasn't sculpture. I didn't enjoy sculpting classes at all....except for there being a few cute girls in there...I just wasn't feeling motivated at any point to really get into that.....computer generated 3d was ok though, since the end result was usually something that was at least "decently cool" to look at.

Random---my old sculpture/ceramics teacher was a lesbian. She wasn't hot though, so she doesn't count.

-more random--anyone else ever have the experience of causing a woman's "terrified"/"wayyy creeped out" facial expression? I'm not even sure about my reaction to it....it is a mixture of things. It is a natural effect though. Any time I come off as "normal"....it's only due to me playing the role of "normal", like a good actor. Sometimes it's a bit depressing to know I will always be "acting" just to fit in as a "reasonably normal" person. I will never have the luxury of just being the real me, at least not outside of the internet. Luckily for me....I happen to be a fairly good actor. It's just annoying that I have to be "acting" all the time in life....like how Batman has to forever maintain that false persona called "Bruce Wayne".
