hey guys, i'm in a bit of a situation right now and i thought i'd post and see what y'all thought. anyone work for a travel agent or a airline? because i could use some advice.
so i'm flying back from japan to see my girl for a few weeks over winter break - booked my tickets through Orbitz.com and got decent prices on a flight that goes from Nagoya to Tokyo, and Tokyo to Portland. Which is dope, because i'm in Nagoya, and at the time, that was the most convenient - Nagoya - Tokyo - Portland is the same price as a Tokyo-Portland ticket.
however, i ended up getting involved in some weekend plans in Tokyo up until the day before I leave for the US, and I would feel really stupid paying extra money to take a train from Tokyo to Nagoya just so I could fly back to Tokyo the next day and sit around the airport for a seven hour layover. That'd cost me like $90 for a train ticket, plus I'd have to get up hella early to catch the Nagoya flight. all I want to do is NOT get on the Nagoya - Tokyo flight. however, Orbitz doesn't have partial cancellations, and i tried to call them and ask them if they could change it and they said they'd have to charge me to cancel the flight and reissue a new ticket. fuck that - it's like $200. at least.
so then i was thinking, well, maybe i could just get on at tokyo anyway. i can check-in online (the nagoya - tokyo flight is ANA, the tokyo-portland flight is NWA) and just walk on normally, right? but then i heard from a friend that my reservation could conceivably be completely canceled if i don't check in at the first stop. which would leave me well and truly fucked.
does anyone here have a similar experience or work in the biz? i'm gonna call ANA and NWA and see what's up but i wonder what you guys would have to say.
