View Full Version : Weird stuff with Namco yellow stick

I have one of the yellow Namco arcade sticks that I've been using to play Pc games with via a converter. It works perfectly, and I've never had a problem with it.

Today, however, I actually plugged it into a PS2 to play (for the first time) Arcana Heart with a friend. For no reason that I can see, it started randomly hitting 'up' lots. Needless to say this made it hard to play with. I've tried plugging it back into the PC and it resumed working fine.

I can't understand why a PSX stick would work better on PC through a converter than on a real PS2. Can anyone shed any light on the situation, or hoopefully even suggest a fix?

hmm, so on your ps2 it inputs up a lot?
have you tried using a regular ps2 controller on the ps2 to see if it would press up a lot?

I tried it on both P1 and P2 ports, and it had the same problem on each, while regular controllers (both PSX digital and PS2 Dualshock) worked fine. So I doubt it's the controller port.

the only thing i can see working for sure is replacing the pcb, with one that you have checked already.

If replacing the PCB is the only fix I'll probably just leave it as-is. It works for PC fighters which is what I mostly play, and I'm in the slow process of making a custom at the moment so I'll have my PS2 base covered soon enough.

I'm just curious as to the cause / hoping for a quick fix.

Thanks anyways though.

It could where you are sitting, or physically positioning the stick?

Where do you usually sit when playing on pc? Is it on a stable surface?
When playing on the PS2, are you putting it on your lap?

Sounds silly... but that's the only thing i can think of that could cause such a diverse outcome to happen, if it's not the pcb.

When playing PC games, I sit on an office chair with the stick in my lap. Playing Arcana Heart, I was sitting on the edge of a bed with it in my lap.
