Is this shit supposed to hurt so much? I hold it between my middle and ring fingers and it's by far the hold I'm most consistent with, but it's murder on my wrist, and the back of my hand keeps scraping the base of the stick. I'm literally in pain after playing for like an hour, and I've already got a really bad wrist from breakdancing. It's especially bad if I have to 720 clockwise or DP going left because I have to tweak my wrist.

Am I just doing it wrong or something? I don't wanna end up with arthritis in my wrist just so I can super more consistently, lol. I noticed the Japanese tend to use their index and middle fingers instead, but I scrape my knuckles like crazy doing that.

I can't walking DP properly going right with the pencil hold for whatever reason. I think because the top of my index finger is pushing :df: on the stick a little.

Listen, wineglass style is for the hardcore and so you're supposed to play with some fingerless leather gloves on. If the pain in your wrist is too much for you...well, maybe you aren't hardcore enough to be playing wineglass style.

If you're experiencing pain playing games, you should probably change something up while you still have the option. Temporary pain is much better than permanent pain.

I see two possibilites here: the stick is wrong or you're holding it wrong. Check the height of the balltop, it sounds like it's possibly too low. Also, you say you're scraping yourself on the stick surface - is the stick lacking the little plastic ring that goes over the hole? There shouldn't be much there for you scrape yourself on....

From my experience your hand should be quite comfortably grasping the ball between middle and ring finger, with the shaft resting between the two lowest finger joints, and your middle finger loosely wrapped around the ball. My grip overall is very very loose; I don't so much grab the stick and shove it in the direction I want as gently guide it (as you can probably guess I prefer sticks with softer springs. Happs kill me). I also tend to move my whole arm as much as I move just my wrist. I can't guarantee that the way I do it is "The One True Way" or even "the best way", but it works for me without pain. I have fairly large hands, so if you don't the above may not apply.

P.S. I think the Japanese hold them between middle and index only because they have tiny tiny hands.

P.P.S. I used to hold sticks with my palm resting on the top and a deathgrip on the balltop. My arm got very very tired that way, don't try it.

Hmmm.... I have no clue how you motion, but I feel no pain. I feel very comfortable holding the stick wine glass style.

Well, I was resting the back of my hand on the base of the stick for support. Sounds like that might be the problem. My hand is also sort of tweaked at 2:00 o' clock with my thumb on top if that matters.

How do you hit 360s or demon flips clockwise without moving your whole arm?

I'm actually at my parents' place for xmas right now, so I can't physically check how I do things. My other post was done from memory. I'll be back home in a day or two though and I can check angles and stuff then.

How do you hit 360s or demon flips clockwise without moving your whole arm?

Reread my other post - I do move my whole arm quite a bit.

I think the standard for the wineglass is to have the hand actually facing towards the right, rather than fully facing upwards. So basically your palm is oriented towards your right shoulder.

That's what I've been doing, but then I have to tweak my wrist really far up to 360 one way. I have trouble DPing left as well because of the extra arm movement involved. Maybe it's just because my wrist is already fucked up and this is aggravating it.

My Hori has a really short shaft too, so the back of my hand scrapes the base of the stick when I do motions going left.

What controller and parts are you using, again, Kyokuji?

hold it between your index finger and middle finger not ring finger.

i tried pretty much all the styles to play(except for the arm cross one where your left hand is on the buttons instead of your right), and i gradually went from between to the index finger, to the middle, to the ring finger, to not between fingers at all(no homo). i know you said youre most consistent with that style, but maybe you should try changing it to something less stressful on the hand. itll take time but im sure youll get used to it after awhile.
