hello everyone on SRK. I'm new to the forums and was wondering if I ordered a custom stick for mainly Virtua Fighter 5 for Xbox 360 that uses the Sanwa JLF. Should I go for the 4 way gate or Octagonal gate? The stick would also be used for Street Fighter II, SFII HD, and the upcoming Street Fighter IV.
I've heard 4 way is better for VF5 as its easier for tap movements? Is this true? Thanks for reading :)

the gates you use are for you so you need to make the choice i like a circle gate because its smoother than a octagonal gate but if you have trouble telling where your df and db are i would go with the octagonal gate
also check the stickies before posting

I think you mean square gate. 4 way means you can't input diagonal directions. as far as I know arcades use square gates. A lot of people use square gates just for that fact. I think hitting diagonals is easier with square gates. If you're used to playing on american parts then you should get an octagonal gate but otherwise square is probably better. If you're not sure you can always spend the 5 bucks to get the octagonal gate and test it out yourself.

sorry my mistake. Yes I meant the square gate. They seem to use that for all arcade sticks here in the Sega arcade center in Taiwan. I think the last time i used american sticks was back in 92-94 when playing SFII and SF Alpha.

just buy the octagon gate, they're relatively cheap and all you gotta do is snap the gates in and out, takes no tools and can be done by hand. Originally I used a octagon gate and then I found myself to no longer wanting to rely on the edges for qcf motions, so I ditched the octagon gate and just stuck with square. Been like that for ages now

Will you please elaborate? I thought it was necessary to open the controller and change something on the bottom of the stick... I'll install an octagonal gate in the foreseeable future in my new HRAP2. Thanks!

on the JLF sanwas, the gates are held together by 4 tabs. You can press in the tabs and remove the gate, and replace it with another one.
I think this one might be a flash, but the way the gates are held together are the same.

That's a Sanwa Flash alright, but you're right about both sticks being the same when it comes to attaching/detaching the gate.
