Question about wiring

Hi, first post. Ive read alot tho.

Anyhow, Im about to make a stick and I had 2 questions.

1) with those joysticks that have the 5 wires instead of the microswitches sticking out can you wire those for a 360 by splitting it back into 4 wires?

2) For start and select buttons if you where to attach a switch to all of there grounds (like a light switch.. called toggle?) would it disable them (for tournys)?

1. those joysticks are made the same way, but the microswitches have already been "wired". the 5 wires are for u, d, l, r and the 5th is the ground for all four.
But, you should be able to re-wire directly to the contacts on the switches, as they are just soldered directly onto a pcb and have had the contacts cut down.

1. those wires represent up down left and right and 1 wire is ground

thanks for the info so far. Also as a note gamestop sells a wired 360 controller for 24$ that should ease the price of making a 360 compatable joystick

1) I list three options for using a JLF on a non-common ground controller (like most 360 pads) here: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showpost.php?p=4468222&postcount=4

2) Yes, if you mean like this:

Ground--(Toggle Switch)---+------(Start Button)----(Start line from pad)
+-----(Select Button)-----(Select line from pad)

Any other configuration, describe it better and I'll try to answer. Please note, this only work if the start and select both use a common ground (which I think most 360 pads would, but please doublecheck your specific pad before attempting.
