Hi guys. I'm kinda new to the scene and wanted to get into games like Arcana Hearts and KOF 98 UM, but I don't have a Japanese PS2. Can somebody tell me how to go about playing import games on my US PS2. From what I understand, I am going to need to mod my system or get an Action Replay. I would rather not mod my PS2, so I guess, if the Action Replay works I would rather do that, but I have no idea how to make it work, or if it works at all. Thanks in advance for the help and sorry if this is a repost.

Or USB Extreme, the external version of HDadvanced, to connect external HDD to slim PSTwo.

Thanks guys! So excuse my ignorance but, with HDAdvance (since I have the old ps2), i would just rip an import game to the hdd and it will not check the PS2's region (us/japan/euro)? Is that right?

Yeah you can transfer directly from the PS2 disc drive and it'll play. Basically the Hard drive method is the easiest way there is, just slide the drive into the Fat PS2's HDD bay, connect the network adapter, insert the HDadvanced/loader discs, and follow the on screen directions.
All you need:
#1- Fat PS2 in decent shape
#2- IDE comp Hard drive
#3- PS2 Network adapter
#4- The discs.
Anyone who can't get this working on their own or does not try because it somehow appears too "complicated", automatically FAILS at LIFE and deserves no sympathy.

Pretty much. Also keep in mind that some games don't work with HDAdvance. There aren't many, but I believe KOFXI and SFAC were on that list, which is why I personally didn't go the HD route.

95% of games work with it, and the benefits of storing your games to HDD are awesome, so the method is well worth doing. In my opinion though one should do both- for those select FEW titles that won't work on the HDD.
The hard drive stuff is NOTHING to get going, and from what i've heard the flip-top lid is not terribly complicated to install either. Do both.

Not me. For the record in all my experience using it, the only games i've encountered to not work with HDadvanced are: Capcom Classics collection 1&2, Alpha anthology, jap KOFXI, and jap NGBC(have not tried U.S versions of XI or NGBC yet).
Everything else I've done has worked great.

If you're in the US, chances are you will end up buying from ModChipStore.com - if that's the case, use promo code modchip for $5 off.
Not necessarily recommending them or anything, just an FYI.

What about import PS2 games on a American 60g PS3?
I was told the import of Gran Turismo 5 would work on my 60g PS3, so I was wondering about that and import PS2 titles....(espeically 3s!)

AFAIK no import ps2/ps1/dvd/out of region bluray for ps3, but GT5 Prologue should play fine.

I'd like to know more as well. Perhaps there is an easier way besides the HDD method(that other Mem card mod still appears to be in the proto phase).
it looks like what Vast! is supposed to be.
- a softmod that lets you play backups/imports
wait
Memento has released firmware v1.0 for use with the Memor 32 memory card which works on both PAL AND NTSC PS2 consoles ranging from versions 3 all the way up to the latest version. This build also supports DVD based PS2 games using a custom transparent patcher which will result with discs working with both Memento firmware and normal modchips/swap discs! Future features inclue USB HDD support and much more. The use of the hacked Memento firmware in conjunction with the Memor 32 results in no warranty loss as there is no need to open the console, it is a complete plug and play solution which means it can be used on any console whenever you please and soon will allow for the launching of backups from HDD and USB HDD WITHOUT the need to patch them. So all in all, this firmware in conjunction with the Memor 32 will allow backups to be played on all PS2/Two models, and you could even take the card to a friends house and use it on their unmodified console without any long lasting effects!

the compatibilty is kind iffy right now (like 75% i say) but its still new so im sure updates will improve the list
memor32 memorycard + Memento firmware.
No fuss, no muss.
From what I've read, you can't simply play an import title using this method; You have to rip the iso and patch it so it is mistaken by the PS2 to be recognized as a DVD Video. Has this changed since the last time I checked this solution out? I'm currently in the market for some method to play import games myself.
