You might want to ask all your questions in one thread instead of making severals.
Also you might want to ask in the Tech Talk section.
Just saying.

Funny you guys keep saying notepad. I remember back in the day like 1995 or 1996, I use to make webpages in notepad typing out all the html code oldschool.

Same here. I stopped using Notepad a long time ago once I found this.
Of course that's if you want to do your shit straight with direct programming.
I've never touched Dreamweaver.

Uh not really smartass. Web publishing programs were around back then and were being used extensively by around at least 1996 or 1997. I just didn't want to convert over and felt more comfortable writing out the code.

UEStudio 06.
If that's not your thing, VIM > Notepad. Context coloring ftw.
I use:
- Dreamweaver CS3 - I don't advise the code "help" or wysiwyg page creation. Just use the code view and type in your code like you would in notepad.
- Lotus Notes / Domino

seconded on both parts. i wouldn't recommend EVER using WYSIWYG. although i do occasionally use the code help for CSS colors and whatnot. when i'm on a windows box i use the macromedia 8 package (dreamweaver/fireworks/flash) and absolutely love it. otherwise it's vim + gimp.
the problem is that, except for macromedia flash 8, it isn't really worth the money. luckily my work pays for it. so woooo

Textpad or Eclipse. DW CS 3 whenever I'm using a new language. It's overpriced. Let your work give you that.

if you're coding anything but basic java or html in notepad you're an idiot and wasting a lot of time

here is a fairly decent web publishing software that is free called Nvu.
http://nvudev.com/index.php
haven't really used it much but it didn't seem to bad. and hell, it's free and open-source.

gEdit for the win. I've always liked typing my code out instead of using an editor.
If WYSIWYG editors are your thing, though, and you don't want to pirate something, I recommend Nvu (http://nvudev.com/index.php).
Edit: Wow, I completely missed the post before mine.

what is this top secret website you're making that you only want run in IE, AND can not be copied by anybody else?
so much hype, better deliver.
i use microsoft visual studio, but what i do is a little different i guess since i'm writing mostly code and just slapping down controls with little regard for layout. the guy who does our css uses dreamweaver.
will your top secret website have any functionality? if so have you given any thought to what database you're gonna use, as well as what web server, and what programming language you'll use for the front end?

I don't want to code anything, so will dreamweaver be easy enough for me to use? Do they have stock templates I can just use?
Unless of course Jie want's to make me a site proBONER.
