The Cove is having a tournament on Feb 3 from 11 am to 9 pm. Come early as possible to register.

Games featured will be Guilty Gear AC, MVC2, CVS2, KOF 11 and 3S.

10$/person

or

20$/group of 5 people

The tournament is being run by Oscar and Neal and should be quite entertaining.

Prizes TBA on day of tournament.

The more the better, (this means you Byron, Ian, Ray etc)

For the look at the entry fee, they are probably planning to give out free hot dog to the winners of each game... $4/player into each game's pot(cove takes a portion), and assuming 70% of pot goes to winner, and 16 players(:confused:). There is only like $64 in the pot(before cove takes its share), and 70% of that... what a joke.:lame:

actually, the space got bought out by a company who offered more.
They make good income on drinks and parties. You cannot believe the income private functions brought in.
That and the parents who brought their kids for the ticket redemption games actually created significant revenue.

I think it's just a general trend in calgary where a lot of entertainment establishments are being eliminated. You know sunset billiards is gone? I'm finding less and less fun things to do in this city besides clubs, bars and bubble tea. Theres no where to go to just chill.

Played a bit of DR this past weekend at a friend's house and I can hardly get any of the juggles from 5.0 to work. Am I just retarded or did they change alot more than I thought they did from 5.0>5.1>DR?

I can't get Halberdx3 to work with Baek and lots of the Raven juggles don't seem to work anymore even with the slight sidestep to the left.

Almost makes me want to get a PS3 to test stuff out, almost. Maybe once T6 is released I'll be able to justify putting down $400 for it.

DR has a different level of gravity so half the old good combos everyone use to use don't work anymore, but i do know for a fact the x3 halberd with baek works in a few combos.

Just got back from the con. Some things..

Hercules is a BIG dude. Must be 6'4".. and Mr. Sulu seems like quite the gentleman! Like someone's nice old grandfather.

The star wars costumes were INTENSE. I'll just leave it at that.

TONS of artists there. The kimpossible dude and lots of other guys I would know about if I was into that kind of thing, etc. I haven't read comics since I stopped collecting New Mutants and X-Force comics back in the day, so I dunno who any of these guys are anymore.

Some furry artists were there, and one person in a fursuit as RedXIII from FF7. No plush dog-cock attachment unfortunately. . lol

The artist who did the batman animated series (And tons of other stuff) was there and my god was he ever busy. He had a lineup longer than Hercules and Mr. Sulu combined and he was going at it all day. People must really love that guy. I saw one fella get his comic signed by that guy and he kinda stumbled away in a daze with a grin ear-to-ear. He really couldn't believe it. He was sooo fucking happy. I felt like giving him a high-five.

The udon artists were there too, would be nice to get those SF comics signed! Also did sketches for people and had some really sweet prints for sale.

Fat girls cosplaying as uber lame stuff like naruto and yu-gi-oh is awesome.

I naturally inquired about their setups and apparently they build them in town! Costs about $2500, and is running 2 8800 gtx's SLI. 3dmark06 score? 15,000.

I feel in the newer Tekken you never get a chance to develop a proper mind game since the first thing you should learn in a new Tekken is your best launcher and your most damaging combo, your frame advantange moves. So in essense we have a bunch of noobs that can juggle things the cows came home but would be completely baffle by me reversing their shitty wake up 4 just to prove their inferior skills. New players you can read like a book because all the old tricks work on them.

I'm going into the university more often these days, and I usually swing down and play some 3rd strike when I can. The times I'm there usually vary, but for some reason I find myself there on Wednesday in the late afternoon more often than not.

Also... I found an HDTV (42") that has absolutely ZERO lag. It's so awesome; I had done a year's worth of research to find a non-laggy HDTV, and one does exist. In fact, I had to make a Youtube video to prove it to people who are (rightly) skeptical! I love this TV.

Sorry, missed your post ShinAkuma. Weekdays are typically bad for me, since I'm working hard on my masters thesis these days. Sometimes I go to the uni arcade on my lunch break, but some days I don't. I wouldn't mind stopping by and playing some 3s on a weekend, though, with everyone. I think I've gotten considerably better in the past while, so I wouldn't mind seeing how I stack up.

To Rik: The only arcade that has 3rd strike (that's worth visiting) is the U of C arcade, called The Cove. Even though it's the summer months, if you come by during the afternoon and hang out for 30 minutes you'll probably run into someone who can play 3rd strike (and we have T5 there, but I don't know if it's working right now). As for home play, these guys are probably your best bet, but I haven't been to a meeting in a while so I don't know how often they still do them!

Was wondering if someone could help me out. Moved to calgary a while back, and my dreamcast recently broke down. Does anyone know where I can pick one up locally?
